Other than slowing down a smidgen to say hello to Nash's mom, Newt was unstoppable. He could barely contain his excitement as he barreled down the platform, rattling trolley in tow, and headed right toward Nash’s open arms. It’d been way too long since he’d seen his best friend and way, way too long since he’d hugged him.
“DUDE!!!”
An entire summer had been spent away from his best friend. Two and a half months without Nash's company. Newt wasn't sure how he'd gotten through it, but he managed, and now they would be together again. The terrific twosome.
In one movement, Newt let go of his trolley and leapt into Nash's arms, throwing his arms around his neck. He clung to him like a spider monkey. Pressing his face into the side of Nash's neck, he grinned and said, "Dude! Brah! It's been like, too long!"
Behind them, Newt's trolley crashed into Nash's at full speed, pushing them both into through to Platform 9 3/4.
He will Certainly Catch Me|| Nash and Newt
The back to school rush was probably the least favorite part of Nash’s summer. Like, yeah, it was cool to shop for new school supplies and see his friends on the train, but his mother was so overbearing about it that it got a little annoying. His poor, confused, Muggle mom who tried her hardest to send her boy off to school like any normal mom would. But unfortunately, back to school at Hogwarts was nothing like back to school at a muggle school. Especially not the part where you run directly at a brick post to get to your boarding platform.
“Are you sure, dear?” Nash’s mother, Natalie, asked for probably the bajillionth time. Nash was getting pretty tired of reassuring her he’d be fine just like EVERY OTHER YEAR HE’D DONE THIS, but he couldn’t blame her. It was probably very worrisome.
They’d said their umpteenth goodbyes, hugged for the seventh time, and she’d given him a dozen cheek kisses and warnings to be good and keep his grades up when Nash turned to the post and took a deep breath. Just as he was about to take off running though, he heard a familiar voice.
When he saw who it was, his best bro running at him from the other side of the platform with all his bags in tow, Nash’s face lit up.
“BRO!!!!”
He took off running towards Newt, opening his arms for the biggest goddamn hug a guy could muster. The train, Diagonal Alley, the candy trolley, and all that was pretty awesome about heading back to Hogwarts for another year, but this moment was always the thing he looked forward to the most.

Gideon could be so thoughtful. Had he not been looking out for Newt, and had he not caught the crystal ball, it would have shattered on the floor. And though he could have shared Gideon’s, he liked having his own. “Thanks, Gideon.” Newt said, smiling big. He tucked the ball into his robe pockets.
Scrying had to be Newt’s least favorite form of fortune telling. Like with most things, he preferred less fire. “No promises,” He said softly, watching with wide-eyed wonder as Gideon easily conjured up a flame and placed it in the center of their table. Newt scooted his chair in as best as he could, making a lot of unnecessary movement, then rest his elbows on the table. He reached a hand out, like he wanted to touch the flame. “How does this work?” Since he’d been sleeping, he’d missed the demonstration.
In Your Future (Gideon & Newt)
Just being next to Newt was throwing off his concentration. Newt’s astronomy chart had unfurled and covered up his crystal ball, his cards were everywhere, and his crystal ball had bumped into Gideon’s neatly stacked tarot cards, spilling them from their pile. His lips drew into a thin pursed line as he began to fix his stuff.  And then a word like nails on a chalkboard raked down his spine. Gids…there was that hellish nickname. How could this mouth breathing neanderthal speak to him so informally?! He reached out and caught Newt’s crystal ball before it could fall of the table and jammed it into his hands. “We’re practicing scrying. Telling fortunes from a the flames. So do try not to burn anything?” He cleared his own things from the table, and conjured a medium sized flame, placing in the center.

Newt was a boy of many strange and unusual talents. Everyone knew him for something, whether it was his skill at catching spiders, the chubby bunny game, or correctly guessing how many eel eyes were in the jar. Unless he was sleeping, which is something he did often, he could almost always be found partaking in some odd activity. It was his normal.
When he wasn't hanging out with the Gryffindors, he could usually be found in the Hufflepuff common room. Today, he was sitting underneath one of the large, circular windows. The afternoon sun streamed through, bathing him in golden light. The scene was almost picturesque... had a flute not been shoved up to his nose. Still, the music he played was soft and sweet. And he played a mean rendition of "Trumpets" (by Jason Derulo) using just his nostrils.
Hufflepuff Jam Session--(Chel & Newt)
Chel had just finished showering after an intense Quidditch practice. She looked down at her arms and grumbled when she saw the large amounts of bruises. After reaching the girl’s dormitory, she changed into a clean uniform and was going to head down to the common room. She was too lazy to make braids again so she walked down the halls with damp hair. Chel couldn’t wait to waste her downtime taking a nap. After gazing at herself in the mirror, she chuckled at the funny mishap at the Quidditch practice, which involved her bat, some mud, and a newbie. She gathered her bag, and put her textbook and some parchment in it in case she changed her mind and decided to be productive. Chel began walking towards the Hufflepuff Basement.
She waved and said hello to anyone she recognized on the way. Chel decided to take a detour to the kitchen and grab something to eat; she grabbed an orange and said her goodbyes to the house elves and went back on her way. She almost sighed in relief at the sight of the common room, and was about to rest her head on one of the tables when she heard the familiar sound of…a flute? Chel realized that only one of the people she knew could play the flute. And when she caught sight of freckled skin and a flute in the nose, she knew it could only be–
Newt.

“Hello!” Newt, on the other hand, looked pleasantly pleased that he’d been paired up with Gideon. He didn’t even seem to notice how bitter Gideon looked. “Like, dude, y’know you can call me Newt, right?” Everyone else did. Newton just sounded far too formal for his liking. “We’re, like, totally buddies, Gids.” He reached across the table, lighting patting Gideon’s arm.
Turning from him, Newt looked at his things scattered haphazardly across the table.  Crystal ball off it’s stand, angry clouds rumbling within. Tarot cards falling out of their once neatly aligned deck. Astronomy chart completely unfurled. “So, like...” His brow crinkled, like he might be thinking too hard, “...what are we doing?”
In Your Future (Gideon & Newt)
No…no no no…nonononononononono!!!! There was no way this was happening! Gideon could feel his sanity slipping away from him! He stared in utter horror as Newt began to make his way over. He felt glued to his seat. He looked around for an escape, though he knew their wasn’t. He was in class, and it had been teacher’s orders He hoped someone would burst up and scream “HAHA! YOU SHOULD SEE THE LOOK ON YOUR FACE!” He wanted to wake up, covered in cold sweat. He wanted this to be a bad dream! But no..this was his reality. Of course she would pair Newt with him. Newt was a star student. Just as good as Gideon was. It was like this class came naturally to them, almost like breathing. Divination class used to be like a beautiful foggy dream, and now it was a horrible nightmare. He tried not to look too furious as Newt sat next to him. “Hello Newton.”

In Your Future (Gideon & Newt)
pure-and-proud:
Ever since Gideon was young, he’d had dreams that felt too real to be dreams, dreams of things that hadn’t happened yet. They were always hazy and just out of his reach, like he was watching through fogged glass, but he knew they were trying to tell him something. And these dreams were always proceeded by a horrible headache. His mother had said that his great, great grandma was a seer. But he always thought it was a lot of bull, more hype to add to the Sinclair name. Once he was 12, however, one of the dreams he had had when he as 10 came true, and he knew he possibly had seer blood. And so he began taking Divination classes at Hogwarts. He excelled at the study and was constantly praised by the professor for his gift. It was strange, but the thick heavy incense fumes made his head feel better. Though he usually left feeling a lot worse and a little nauseous. Luckily, he had a free period after and was able to rest. Today however, the professor was giving them partners. She told Gideon that she had a very exciting assignment for him. That she was looking forward to seeing what him and his new partner would be capable of. “Our first pairing….Gideon and Newt!” Gideon’s eyes widened and he stared at her in shock. “Wait what….”
Hearing his name called, Newt lift his head from his hand, slowly blinking the sleep from his eyes. With his mind still foggy from both the wafting perfume and his afternoon nap, it took some time for him to comprehend that his teacher wanted to pair him and Gideon together. His eyes slowly scanned the room, looking over the heads of every student, until his eyes fell upon where Gideon sat.
“...Duuuude!” It seemed like it finally clicked by the slow grin on his face, “Sweet!”
Newt gathered up his things, holding everything in his arms, and left his table to join Gideon’s. He sat heavily in an armchair, spreading his things out on the table, and grinned at Gideon. While his partner might not feel the same, Newt was excited to work with Gideon; he had some of the highest grades in the class and the teacher often praised his work.
Of course, Newt was also a star pupil in the teacher’s eyes, but he wasn’t sure why. As much Newt loved Divination, he didn’t try as hard as Gideon did. In fact, he was often asleep through the class, though that wasn’t entirely his fault. Something about the stifling warmth and the heavy perfumes just made him want to close his eyes for a couple minutes...

💋, 💃, 🍺
💋  - Kissing
“Dude,” Newt chuckles, like he might be embarrassed, and waves his hand dismissively. “You know I don’t like, kiss and tell, man.”
But other students don’t seem to have that policy as it’s been said that Newt is quite the talented kisser.
💃 - Dancing
“I got some moves.” Newt wiggles his arms around to show off said moves. He’s not a great dancer, but he’s not a bad dancer, either. He does, however, dance like nobody is watching and has fun with it.
🍺  - Alcohol Tolerance
“Shhhh...” Newt looks to both sides of himself, above him, and behind him for any wandering ears. “I can take a few shots, brah.”
He may not have a high tolerance, but he can hold his own. An average tolerance, maybe.

He will Certainly Catch Me|| Nash and Newt
“And you’ve remembered to bring your tarot cards?”
Though he’d stopped fully listening a few questions back, Newt nodded to his mother’s voice, giving the impression that he was. He wasn’t thinking about what he had and hadn’t remembered to bring with him, or what it might be like to show up to class without any of his supplies, but instead thought of everything that awaited him at Hogwarts. Mostly, he missed his friends. He was well-liked by his peers and received letters, but he rarely got to see anyone other than his parents and various creatures over his vacations. And yeah, he liked them well enough, but kicking back with your mother and her brood of pink and purple pygmy puffs just wasn’t the same.
“Newt?”
There was one person he missed more than anyone else. His best friend, Nash Halcom. It seemed like forever since he’d last spoken to him, though it couldn’t have been more than a couple weeks since Newt hadn’t been able to get cell service. It had been even fewer days since he’d last received a letter. But all of that just couldn’t compare to seeing your best bro, face to face.
“Newt! Newton!”
Newt ran himself, and his trolley, into a brick pillar with a metallic crash, ripping him from his thoughts. Muggles walking by gave him a mix of concerned stares and derisive laughs. His father clicked his tongue at him, but leaned closer to make sure he was okay. Newt waved away his concerns, telling he that he was, “Okay!” and “Just thinking!”
Newt was rubbing his arm, backing his cart up, and steering it around the pillar when he looked up...  “...Bro!”
A grin split across his face and he immediately took off down the platform.
“Dude!”
