Scrapped version of Kazuma's personal theme.
"Mr Takumi and Mr Nuri pointed out this version sounded like something you might hear at the public baths in a ryokan hotel. Come to think of it, it does sound kind of generic, like the mood music at a public baths chain. So it had to go!"

Kazuma's personal theme.
"'Something elegant but emotional...but also elegant...' was the request. This piece tries to capture Kazuma's inner strength and movingly gallant character. If you listen carefully, you may even feel the keen edge of Karuma perhaps...?"

Scrapped version of start of trial theme
"I initially began composing this without looking at any visuals from this title, drawing on the music of the very first Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney game. But the solemn majesty of the in-game graphics meant it wasn't a good fit, so, yup, it was dropped!"

Start of trial theme
"This trial-opening theme was created based on one of Mr Maeba's unsuccessful attempts. If his work hadn't been scrapped, I'm quite certain that this theme would never have seen the light of day!"

La Carneval flashback theme from start of game
"'What's going to happen now? It's a new case. It's a serious new case!' ...That's really the idea that waxes and wanes throughout this piece."

Scrapped version of opening anime sequence theme
"I composed this with heavy emphasis on an elegant, refined feel. With the influx of Western culture and the influence it had on the period, this piece was a good fit, but it went a little too far in that direction, so it was dropped."

Opening anime sequence theme
"I had many failed attempts at creating something that properly portrayed the feel of the era in which the game is set. This version that was used in the end was actually the first one I wrote. That happens a lot in game development."

Scrapped version of variation on Ryunosuke's personal theme
"This ended up being too similar to the 'Ryunosuke Naruhodo - Objection!' theme, so it wasn't used. It has an energy somewhere between Ryunosuke's personal theme and the version of 'Overture to Adventures' that was eventually used."

A variation on Ryunosuke's personal theme.
"This plays on the Title screen you're presented with just after the game starts, but also when Ryunosuke comes into his element. It's a sort of bridge piece until the 'Ryunosuke Naruhodo - Objection!' theme plays."
