collection of useful things tumblr has taught me:
even if you can't fall asleep, laying down with your eyes closed will still rest your body
you don't have to brush your teeth standing up
you don't have to do any chore standing up, from dishes to showering
you don't have to shower with the lights on
if you can't brush your teeth, flossing and a tongue scraper gets rid of plaque and bad breath
if you can't do that, mouthwash kills a lot of bacteria
eating "unhealthy" food is better than eating no food
you can make the same meal everyday for however long you still want it
some pills come in syrups or chewables if you can't swallow them
kids nutritional shakes can be a quick way to get fuel if you can't eat/don't have time
if walking hurts/exhausts you on a regular basis, canes and rollers are for you, no matter how young you are
we have free will—if doing something "out of the ordinary" makes life easier for you, do it
if you have even a dollar to spare, please consider donating to Alaikum's family.
they're a large family at only 17% of their goal to evacuate, and could use any help you can give!!

being a male CSA survivor is not for the weak
every damn "community" out there for people like me is so overrun by hating and blaming men as a whole that there's not any space for someone like me, a trans CSA survivor, to find literally any community or support. the best I get is blame
this bullshit forced me to detransition for years just to work on my healing because I mentally could not handle starting to process what happened when everyone and their mother blamed me for my and everyone else's abuse. and now I'm transitioning again and it's the same shit. csa is a women's problem. only girls get sexually abused and only men abuse them. I'm so fucking close to ending it all man idk how much longer I can do this

it fucking sucks being a disabled person who can't work and having to see these fuckass posts where someone's like "ahaha jobless people have no life and that's why everyone shitty online has No Job" and everyone and their mother reblogs it joyfully onto my dash for me to see. yes unemployed and unemployable people are truly without exception dogshit people with no hobbies and no redeeming qualities. you're so right. anyway if you'll excuse me i have to start my shift at the I'll Never Be Employed Because Of Permanent Disability And I Love Knowing How You Really See Me store

You’ve got to forgive yourself for being traumatized and needing to learn how to function again.
Recovery isn’t always nightmares and depression, it’s forgetting to eat, being scared of what others might see as completely normal things, it’s getting random panic attacks, not knowing how to take care of yourself, not knowing how to live like an adult, even if you’re twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, of feeling like you’re failing to function in a world where everyone seems to have their shit together.
If you need help, ask for it. Go to forums and ask for advice. Take advantage of community resources. Buy pre-sliced veggies and fruits, eat instant meals if you can’t cook for yourself today. Hire someone. Ask a neighbor for a favor. Buy any item you think might make life easier, even if you feel like you aren’t ‘disabled’ enough to have it.
Some of the depression posts (ie open your windows, take a shower, go outside, call a friend) are really helpful but they’re not always enough. I’ve found advice for spoonies, people with chronic pain or other disabilities have the best tips because they know what it’s like to be bedridden, out of energy, stuck in a brain fog.
You may never return back to the energy you had when you were younger and you might always need to use crutches to help you through life. It’s the same with medication.
Trauma is a real thing that happens to you, it physically alters your brain and it’s alright to have lasting scars.
You’re not broken, your life is not over and you can still be happy.
It’s not your fault.

maybe a hot take idk, but having neglectful parents didn't force me to learn to take care of myself, it just made me believe that my being cared for wasn't important. So now I'm an adult with cavities and bad sleep habits who doesn't know the difference between a dry vac and a wet vac.

you don’t need perfect conditions to start. you just need to start. five minutes of focus is better than waiting for motivation to come.

some things i didn’t realize i needed to hear…
you have permission to make mistakes. you have permission to fail. you have permission to be sad. you have permission to not be over it. you have permission to struggle with difficult things or even “easy” things.
