Listen, there are shows where you can indulge into ship wars. Like bridgerton. Or I don't know, thousand other romcoms, or even other genres that make space for that kinda dynamics.

The Handmaid's Tale isn't that kinda show. Romance is the LAST thing that anyone has in mind. It's THE HANDMAID'S TALE. HANDMAID. Yeah? That's the focus. June is the focus. The WOMEN are the focus. Fighting patriarchy and misogyny and fascism is the focus.

NOT which man the main female character ends up with. Yeah? It's not about that. Please go back to your dark romances if that's what you're looking for.

Don't come here and talk about how the death of your favourite brooding hot Nazi is an affront to humanity. It isn't.

Fun Fact: Nick’s moral dilemma wasn’t a choice between June and Gilead. It was between being a N*zi and not being a N*zi, regardless of his feelings for June. Doing the right thing for the right thing’s sake.

That’s why Lawrence got redemption and he didn’t. Because when push came to shove, he didn’t try to save his own neck at the expense of the rebellion. He got on the plane and followed through knowing what it would mean for him.

I’m actually screaming and clawing at my enclosure over how people managed to literally make THE HANDMAID’S TALE centered on their favorite MAN. Or how people managed to make all of their fan content regarding a politically-themed dystopian story about women’s rights center exclusively on the romantic subplot 😭😭

Nick was never supposed to be a good guy!! That was intentional!! He was meant to show how even the ‘nice’ men in patriarchal systems will ultimately still choose the power and security offered to them by the patriarchy over protecting the rights of women. He only ever ‘rebelled’ because he loved June, not because he ever cared about the rights of women in Gilead. Somebody save media literacy because we cannot do the “the hunger games is actually about the Katniss love triangle!!” thing all over again

It’s like nobody’s been paying attention to what the Featherington’s have been going through for the past three seasons all because Lord Featherington died with no male heirs in his immediate family. Jack Featherington’s scamming ass showed up S2 because Portia is a widow with no male heirs. Her daughters are scrambling to produce a male heir this season because she had to forge documents to prevent other distant male relatives from staking a claim.

Whatever Francesca gets as a widow will be determined by whomever becomes the next Earl of Kilmartin. John died with no male heirs and if there are no male relatives then the Crown can seize everything and give it to someone else.

So explain to me again how Michael being genderbent would make more sense for Francesca when her widowhood puts her in one of the most vulnerable positions in the ton?

Ya’ll hear widow and immediately think of Danbury and the independent life she leads and completely ignore the fact that she’s a widow who gave her husband heirs which is why she’ll be taken care of for the rest of her life financially—that and she’s more than likely used some of the funds she receives from the current Lord Danbury for her own investments.

I’m gonna say something as someone who hasn’t read her book yet… Francesca is the easiest character to make into a queer storyline.

As a widow, demonstrated even this season, she will have her own home, money, a title, and essentially free to do what she wants. So if they genderbent Michael, it could be to society the “oh just these 2 women living together” like many accounts in history but the audience and her family know the truth of the love story.
