Houstonia Moves to HDC
Houstonia Moves to the Houston Design Center
Tumblr media
Houstonia has been distinguished as one of the best city magazines in the country, and serves the all-greater Houston area as the #1 lifestyle brand across our universe of print + digital + social media. Our content is unrivaled in the market, and we have become a destination for all things Houston in our city:  where to eat, travel, play & more! Visit us online anytime for up-to-date news and city life content at houstoniamag.com, become a subscriber HERE, or pop over to Suite 295 for advertising information.
Our transition to the Houston Design Center has been seamless. After revisiting the “new norm” for a work environment, we made the decision to look for a smaller, slightly visible retail space, where we have the flexibility to grow our physical footprint over time. After some investigation, it became clear there was only one place we wanted our flagship to be! Right here with you.
We are thrilled to be a part of the HDC community and look forward to meeting you all!
For now, please enjoy the digital edition of the recent Spring Issue of Houstonia.
  Cheers!

Get to Know Victoria Sheffield Interior + Exterior Design
New Faces at HDC ― Victoria Sheffield Interior + Exterior Design
Victoria Sheffield is a native Houstonian with over 25 years of design experience. She began her career in commercial design, focusing on the hospitality industry and higher education. Later, she expanded her portfolio to offer residential design and landscape design. As the demand grew, she cultivated a talented design team that help your projects come to life.
Philosophy
The VSD mantra is simple – create functional design that reflects the client’s story and lifestyle. Every client is different but, in the end, their home should be a place of sanctuary and comfort!
We work to discover our client’s unique style and specific needs by collaborating with them throughout the design process and help to create a collected and finished feel to any space.
Design Trends VSD Loves
Bold Kitchens – the all-white kitchen is gorgeous to look at but we’ve had more and more requests for colors! Whether it’s subtle or bold, color can add warmth to this gathering space and cultivate an inviting atmosphere.
“Cloud” furniture – Highly textured fabric on modern rounded furniture pieces, we can’t get enough! Unique sculptural pieces like this can be a great way to incorporate fun and interest to a room.
“We’re so excited to join the HDC family and are looking forward to an exciting 2021 full of opportunity!”      ― Victoria Sheffield, Principal Designer Victoria Sheffield Interior + Exterior Design

Rug Revival with LGI Oriental Rugs
For 43 years, LGI Oriental Rugs has been restoring and cleaning fine rugs. As one of the oldest showrooms in the Houston Design Center, they have a depth of experience and an eye for detail that only time brings. From rugs that need light repair to 200-year-old pieces, they can make your rug look just like new again. They are to the trade only, so have your tradesperson contact them for information on your project.
A modern flare
LGI’s Tips to Keep Your Rug Looking Great
Maria Wahab, who owns LGI Oriental Rugs with her husband Arif, said an easy way to make sure your rug stays looking nice is to every inspect the binding and the fringe 6-12 months.  It’s easy to repair any damage on the edges of the rug when caught early. However, if damaged binding and fringe get left unaddressed, it will eventually go into the body of the rug, and that’s when the repairs get expensive and more difficult to correct.

June Showroom Spotlight: LGI Oriental Rugs
Read the June Showroom Spotlight featuring LGI Oriental Rugs, and learn about their amazing selection of rugs from across the world. From Kilims to antique and flat weave rugs, they offer a wide array of sizes and styles to fit any space.
Showroom Name LGI Oriental Rugs, Showroom 155
Name and role in the showroom Maria Jaffer, Owner
Can you give some background on LGI Oriental Rugs? LGI started in 1978 as a wholesaler to other dealers, in 1984 it became a Trade Showroom and that is still our business model. We sell only handmade rugs from all over the world including antiques, contemporary, flat weave, and vintage [rugs]. LGI has been family owned and operated since its inception, a fact that gives us a very personal stake on all the decisions and policies of the showroom. We have been at the Houston Design Center since 1993, so a little more than 27 years.
Tumblr media
What makes LGI unique?
We give an incredible amount of attention to service since we consider ourselves the designer’s representative when we interact with our clients.
Tumblr media
What is your favorite product in your showroom right now?
It is difficult to choose a favorite product, but the new colors in contemporary rugs from Nepal are wonderful. We are also getting what designers are calling “happy rugs” from India that are bringing a lot of color to transitional pieces. We also have a very extensive collection of Kilims.
What is something you would want someone coming to your showroom to know? We would like designers to know that we have an incredible selection of new and antique rugs…we are to the trade so you have to come with a designer [to shop].
How have you adapted your showroom and business  to help make it a safe shopping experience?  We have very few surfaces but we clean them in the morning and also between clients. We have a small station where we have masks, gloves, wipes and disinfectant. We wear masks when clients visit and we recommend that clients wear them but we do not require them to do so, and we all practice social distancing.
Do you have any LGI news you want to share? We always have free pick up and delivery, and we also clean and repair rugs.

Carla Valencia Design Facemasks
Hear from Carla Valencia of Carla Valencia Designs on what instigated them to begin making bespoke facemasks and how you can order your custom one today!
Just like most of the nation, when the lockdown started our primary concern the first few weeks was taking care of our family and trying to great a new sense of normal at home, so honestly, Carla Valencia Design took a back seat. However, my ever-restless father was starting to talk about making masks. I wasn’t on the mask making ship at the beginning, but my father researched patterns and started creating his version. I finally gave in, and the minute I posted our samples “BOOM” we were slammed with orders.
Tumblr media
We use vintage (unused) European Tea Towels to make our masks, we get about 7 out of each print making them super limited edition. We also use interior design quality fabrics. The masks are double lined with a washable filter sewn in the middle. We use contrasting stitching and ties to make our masks as soft and fun as a mask can possibly be! Add a patch, hand embroidery or any other extra! Just like our purse straps – our masks are customized to each client.

The Best Southern Design Trends For 2019
Tumblr media
There’s’ no doubt that the south has its own way of doing things. We are different with just about everything, from our manners to the cars we drive, and even our interior design.  In this post, we are going to look at the top new trends that are southern-inspired and created.
Rustic Chic
In the south, we have our own way of doing chic. A term used with designers is “rustic chic”. The way you pull this off is by mixing high-end design with rustic accents. You will want to mix the materials, but try to have some flow and congruency in the colors.
Tumblr media
Colorful Rugs
Southern interior design is full of color. A great way to add color is through a hand made artisan rug. This is the perfect complement to hardwood floors.
Tumblr media
Stand Out Pieces
What’s special about southern design is how sophisticated it can actually be. A lot of designers will incorporate real contemporary art and stand out pieces you might see in a New York loft or gallery just to elevate the whole look.
Tumblr media
Bold Patterns
The south has come along way from the pure white look. Designers are leaning more towards colors and the way to makes these colors pop out is through bold and nature-inspired patterns.
