Happy Birthday To Me
I'm learning all the time. I'm evolving all the time as a human being. I'm getting better, I hope, in all of the important ways.

So we may not be going on hiatus after 355. The end of the chapter apparently says something like “to be continued in the next issue”.

With Stephen Hawking’s passing, today is a sad day for science. But amongst all his praise and achievements in the fields of physics, for me personally his biggest achievement was making a grand, full life despite the terrible misfortune of being diagnosed with ALS. It would have been easy to become a recluse, embittered with the hand he’d been dealt, a brilliant misanthrope. But this was a man who maintained his sense of humor and refused to be mentally beaten. Three years ago, he told One Direction fans that the theory of alternate universes could provide a reality where Zayn Malik was still in the band. He conducted an interview with John Oliver where his factual, deadpan delivery was funnier than his interviewer, managing the cheekiest grins as he did so. And let us not forget that Stephen Hawking is the only person to have ever portrayed themselves in a Star Trek episode (Next Generation, “Descent, Part 1″), where he appeared alongside actors portraying Einstein and Sir Isaac Newton, whom he proceeded to defeat in poker.

Hawking’s observations on black hole radiation, string theory, alternate universes and artificial intelligence are things that will probably forever remain beyond most of us. But we could all learn a thing or two from his humanity.

Godel's theorem what is truth? how do we form judgements as to what is true and what is untrue about the world? are we simply following some algorithm...or might there be some other, possibly non-algorithmic, route, perhaps intuition, instinct, or insight, to the divining of truth?.... To simplify the question, let us consider only mathematical truth..... The great mathematician David Hilbert...[set about developing a highly formalized mathematical system of axioms and rules of procedure]...all correctmathematical types of reasoning...were to be included. Moreover, Hilbert intended that it would be possible to prove that the scheme was free from contradiction.... ...In 1931,the...austrian mathematical logician Kurt Godel produced a startling theorem which effectively destroyed the Hilbert programme.... [He] showed..that any such precise formal mathematical system of axioms and rules of procedure whatever, provided that it is broad enough...and provided that it is free from contradiction, must contain some statements which are neither provable nor disprovable by the means allowed by the system. The truth of such statements is thus undecidable by the approved procedure. In fact, Godel was able to show that the very statement of the consistency of the axiom system itself...must be one such undecidable propositions...
People often think of Godel's theorem as something negative, showing the necessary limitations of formalized mathematical reasoning. No matter how comprehensive we think we have been, there will always be some propositions which escape the net. But should [these particular propositions worry us? We can establish that these propositions are true despite the fact they are not formally provable within the system]...the formalist's notion of truth must be necessarily incomplete. Whatever consistent formal system is used ...there are statements that we can see are true but which do not get assigned the truth-value TRUE by the formalist's proposed procedure....

You can't do anything about what doesn't exist. In the end humans settle for what's in front of them. If you think about it, humans who were unable to do that made discoveries or inventions and advanced civilization. Planes were invented because people wanted to fly. Cars and trains came to be because people wanted easier means to move around. However, this came from a limited number of people who had innovative plans and concepts. In other words, geniuses made it all possible. Common folk like us are best off living an ordinary life .

The next day, December eighteenth, the wind blew down hard from the mountains like it was trying to freeze everything in its path. And something happened that pushed me down into a sea of despair, right down into the very pit of hell itself... Just giving you a heads-up, there's nothing funny about what was gonna happen to me next.

Do I know what's happening next week? This so-called event that's making everyone freak out. Of course I do. It's easy when the person in the seat behind me makes it her mission to keep track of such things. She's the general manager of all the trouble I've gotten into since April. She's the root of all evil in the universe, the person behind every threat to my existence. Ah, yeah... Her...
