Week 13 Summative
Tumblr media
After further developing my Photobook after feedback during the Presentation in class, this is my finalised layout foe the Summative Submission. I definitely hoped that I could've had more time to commit to this as of course my parents and I's availability had to connect in order for this to happen but I'm proud and happy with what I've managed to produce.
My new additions to my Photobook prior to the feedback was changing my Cover Page as I chose the image of my dad from the grass running towards the Sun as it was a more powerful image in relation to my theme and title. The other additions were the requested interior shots, where I had a small photoshoot with my dad as he was walking in the house and tying his shoelaces. I finally added my positioning statement in the beginning.
My journey through this semester was challenging and exciting, I hope to further improve on my skills as a photographer so that I can produce other works greater than this one.

I had gotten feedback to capture some interior shots as well since most of my photos especially in my Photobook were all Exterior shots. This was to show my journey and development as a photography to show improvement across my different photoshoots throughout the year and this semester.
The set of feedback I got as well was more of a question by my lecturer -- "Why is that image of nature your front cover? What is the purpose?" This made me think about what I think is necessary as my front cover so I changed it to the ground angle shot of my dad running towards the sunlight as I think that fits the title of my Photobook more "Stillness in Motion".
I also had a small photoshoot with my dad as I was asked to get Candid interior shots to help show my development and portray the idea of my dad getting ready for a run.

Week 12 Summative (Photobook)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This photobook explores the personal connection between my parents and their individual passions being running and enjoying nature. Through this project, I aimed to capture their identities not just as people, but as individuals deeply tied to movement, peace, and the outdoors. Using natural settings and a variety of dynamic angles, I wanted to evoke a sense of freedom, energy, and tranquility, reflecting how their hobbies contribute to their wellbeing and happiness.
The visual choices such as shooting from low angles, using wide compositions, and working with natural light were made to highlight motion and serenity. This process also pushed me to become more confident in directing subjects and making creative decisions. Over time, I developed a stronger sense of control behind the camera and a better understanding of how light and composition can shape narrative.
Ultimately, this photobook is both a personal and creative journey. It reflects my growth as a photographer and my desire to continue improving my skills in future projects by spending more time shooting, experimenting, and telling authentic stories through imagery.

Week 11 Task
This week, we looked over the other students work as they printed a draft photobook for feedback. Unfortunately I was not able to participate in this as I wasn't able to finish creating my draft due to difficulties and my schedule.
This week I was testing out the Book feature on Lightroom Classic and I came across some difficulties and confusion while using the feature since it was my first time properly using it for a project like this. I managed to overcome the minor hurdle.

Week 10 Task:
I was not here for the class due to being ill, so I explored this during my time outside of class.
I explored and looked at Conor Clarkes work and Joyce Campbells work. I found the page very interesting as I was reading it and made me think about how I could portray my storytelling throughout my collection of photos in my Photobook.

Week 9 SDL
What and who will your portray?
The people that I am going to portray in my series are the ones who I have a deep connection with, which are my parents. They are apart of my daily life and who I spend time with doing activities with which also relates to my series with my Photobook.
What might you communicate visually through the concept of portrayal?
I am going to communicate the idea of having a connection with loved ones through visualising activities, actions and settings which bring out the emotion and environment into life.
What is your position on your subject matter?
What is your voice? What is unique about you subject or your approach to it?
I think my voice and unique idea that I'd like to is showing a raw and confronting yet scenic and serene view on things including the subject to portray hobbies and personal culture.
What do you have unique access to? A group of people, a place, a situation...
What and who will you portray? What might you communicate visually through the concept of portrayal? What is your position on your subject matter? What is your voice? What is unique about your subject or your approach to it? What do you have unique access to? A group of people, a place, a situation…? Consider the important role the title takes in communicating your intention and how audiences might ‘read’ the book. What is your working title?  What would you like readers to think and feel? What is the role of the text within the book? How does the text relate to the story the images tell? How do they work together? How many shoots do you require to gain adequate coverage and successfully tell the story?  Do you need gear and support with your shoots? What is your plan? What software and workflow will you use to edit, process, collate and design your photobook PDF? What is your research plan?  What other photobooks have you looked at?  Are there decisions that have yet to be made? How will you resolve these?

Week 8 Task
This week unfortunately I could not attend the class due to an urgent meeting relating to my other course.
Since I was not able to physically go to the Art Gallery, I visited the page online and viewed the exhibition which was of Marks Adams.
Marks Adams: A Survey | He Kohinga Whakaahua
Marks Adams is a very well-known photographer from New Zealand who has dedicated himself and his work to the history of the country New Zealand. he has explored many outstanding cultural sites, for example the location of the signing of Te Trite o Waitangi.

These images are from the website / exhibition. These photos stand out to me because it visually represents the culture and portrays the cultural living such as the clothing, setting, etc. I find these very interesting and great to look at, especially the group photo consisting of their cultural clothes and the woven floor which they are sitting on in this set.

Week 7 Task:
The template for a photographic campaign
Who you want to photograph?
I would like to photograph my parents
They could be taken together or individually in my photos.
Something that I've been playing around with as a focus in my images are clouds and nature even though they might not be people, I look at it from a different perspective
What do they have in common:
They have the closest connections with me and have similar ideas and interests when it comes to photography so it makes it great to communicate my project and idea to them
What are the potential threats or weaknesses to the concept?
It's not exactly simple to find people in the public who are open to a photoshoot as most a busy. I find it easier to do it with the ones I have the closest connections to.
Who are the group?
My Mum
My Dad
Overview:
What is the project?

What is the objective?
The objective is to portray the ones I constantly interact with, to show our connection through nature in a simple but documented style.
Target Audience?

14 Day Challenge
Tumblr media
During the two week break, we were given the task to take 14 photos. These are the photos that I took which were from my phone as I was busy with work. Despite using my phone, not only the convince was handy but the quality at which I could work with was still great.
My favourite photos which I took were of the photos I took at the beach as one of the main ideas I've had this semester has been playing round with the texture and colour of clouds, so it was great practice and fun to experiment around.

Week 6 Images - Formative
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The photos above will be the self-portraits that I will be using for the formative assignment. I was not using a tripod for these images so I made the most of the environment around me and used them to my advantage so that I could capture the angles which I was after.
Statement
We all have different things going on in our lives, we come from different backgrounds have different hobbies. However what unites most of us with the rest of the world are our smart phones and especially social media. This was an idea that I had in mind because I wanted to capture a moment of myself on my smartphone to capture how majority of today's society works as we carry on to work into the future of technology.
I am someone who loves the nature and outdoors and also am someone who wants to capture a great moment in nature if I am to see one. This background of mine comes from my mother who has always been an outdoor person who loves nature. What I wanted to capture in the photo I took of my mother was of her being surrounded by bright and refreshing atmosphere to soak in. I wanted to convey the idea of serenity through the colours and mood of this image.
In my personal experience, I do not usually take a lot of self-portraits since I am more used to taking scenery photos of nature and architectural structures, so I found this brief very challenging. Despite the challenges, I found these six weeks to be enjoyable to learn about myself and my capabilities.

Week 5 - Studio Workshop with Raymond
For this workshop we worked with studio lighting and manipulated how we use it to replicate portraits we found online to mimic. This activity was a great insight for me which helped me learn more about lighting, positioning and execution of the image.
Tumblr media
Preparing for the Formative:
As I have already taken 2 of the 3 Images I want to use for the formative. They reflect the subject and their interests and backgrounds. Through the lens and filter, pose and angle I was trying to create an image which reflects a story through a portrait.
As for the 3rd and final Image I want to tell another story which also reflects myself. This is still in progress for the formative.

SDL: 3 Photographers W4
Peter Hurley
Tumblr media
Peter Hurley is an American portrait photographer, best known for his expertise in headshot photography. With over two decades of experience, Hurley has built a reputation for capturing dynamic and engaging portraits, particularly for actors, models, and corporate professionals. His signature style emphasizes natural expressions, making his subjects appear relaxed and confident.
Brooke Shaden
Tumblr media
Brooke Shaden is an American fine art photographer, known for her ethereal, conceptual work that blends surrealism with storytelling. Her photography often features dreamlike, otherworldly scenes, with elements of fantasy, mystery, and dark beauty. Shaden is recognized for her creative use of self-portraiture, frequently composing elaborate scenes where she portrays herself as the subject, embodying various characters and narratives. She is passionate about the power of imagination and narrative in photography, and her work often explores themes of identity, introspection, and emotional depth. I am a big fan of many of Brooke Shaden's photos just as this one in particular is really nice because it gives that dreamscape like image, breaking into another world or reality. It is very creative.
Jo Spence
Tumblr media
Jo Spence was a British photographer and social activist, known for her powerful, introspective work that explored themes of identity, health, and social inequality. Initially trained as a commercial photographer, Spence turned to fine art photography in the 1970s, using her lens to challenge societal norms and question the representation of the body, particularly in relation to class, gender, and illness. Her most notable works include her self-portraits and photographic series documenting her battle with cancer, where she used her own body as a site for personal and political expression.
I think Jo Spence was a very bold and inspiring person for standing up for what she believes in and doing so in the art of photography.
