Hi onion, I was wondering why sm never produced a gg more "public friendly". I'm sure they know what the public likes but fx and rv are pretty much atypic right? Even snsd songs were hit or miss.

Define “public friendly”. f(x) and earlier Red Velvet were definitely more experimental sounds but SNSD were about as cookie-cutter K-Pop girl group could be back in the day (except that they somehow did it better than their predecessors). It’s the template that A Pink used in their beginning and continue to loosely follow today.

Also take into consideration the fact that the Korean public just likes whatever is popular. You have public bait from SNSD’s earlier days that don’t do as well as some of the more outlandish ones that do multiple times better in their later days.

If you want recent proof of how awful the Korean public are at judging what is good and what isn’t, except by relying on popularity, have a look at PSY. Right Now is a far better song than Gangnam Style imo and that, while regarded as a fun track, limped along as just any other track. PSY then releases Gangnam Style and Korea ignores it for almost four months, and only embraces it when America and the rest of the world starts bopping to it, pretending to have liked it from the beginning.

PSY then releases the mess that is Gentleman and it really is a mess, and the rest of the world is meh about it. Meanwhile in Korea, they hype it up and continue to hype it like it’s the biggest thing ever, trying to be ahead of the curve… but then all of that fizzles out when they see outside of their bubble and realize that maybe Gentleman isn’t as good as they wanted to pretend it was.

I was watching an episode of produce 101, the episode where the contestant were broken into group and performing girl groups debut track. I love snsd debut track and was exited to see these girls give justice to the song. The blue team in my opinion were perfect, I’m sure if snsd saw their performance they would have so been proud. Now the pink did a good job too, but they would have done better without Chanmi or her not as a main vocal. I felt she treated it as a joke. Wasn’t snsd the group she almost debuted in? If that was in her position I would give it my all to show what they miss out.

I wish that people could look past stellar’s sexy concept (which wasn’t a bad thing til we realized that stellar don’t actually LIKE their sexy comfort but are forced to do it) and realize that they produce amazing music and visuals. Sting is amazing! I hope that this will be their big break.

I fucking hate Taeyeon’s short hair with the bangs. But there’s scenes in the Rain mv where the bangs are pushed to the side and it looks better than it’s ever looked since she got the haircut! She should do that more often.
