“...Can you hide me?” Thankfully, it only took Nathan a moment to realize what he sounded like when he asked that, so he shook his head and explained. “I’m not in danger! I’m just... really annoyed. I want to help you, and maybe you could hide me.”
Ella was doing that thing again where she insisted on following him around, and it was driving him crazy. It wasn’t that he didn’t like her, but he... didn’t like her.
“My name is Nathan. I don’t think we’ve met.” He extended a hand toward her.

The girl was gone. ‘Least, that was what Walsh thought. What a lot of the others were thinking too, he could tell, except they had the decency to keep their damn mouths shut about it.
Grimes seemed decent about it overall, but he had his own kid to think of right now. T-Dog had damn blood poisoning, Glenn might be quick as hell in a city but he’d get lost between one tree and the next in the wild. Andrea still dealing with whatever the fuck she was dealing with and Dale was best off sitting pretty on the top of that RV with a rifle in his lap. And that left Daryl, heading out on his own. ‘Cause someone had to. ‘Cause that little girl was out there somewhere, lost and waiting, and when little girls were lost in the woods that’s what you did. You went out and found ‘em.
Not like he needed any kind of backup, anyway. He was better on his own, always had been.
…And just then, about twenty feet from the edge of the treeline, lightning struck. A floodlight shone out at him. Just for a second, barely fast enough for him to process, but when he blinked the vision back into blurry eyes there was a man standing in front of him. He looked like he’d been dragged out of the wild by his toes and rolled through every mudpile and thorn bush on the way. His clothes were ragged, dark hair stringy and hanging long over half his face. He was wearing a leather vest and had a crossbow slung over his shoulder and there was something… wrong about him. Something Daryl’s brain kept skipping past, refusing to make sense of as he swung up his bow, narrowed his eyes at the guy. (He looked familiar, looked–– the thought almost landed, then broke off again.)
“Hey, this spot’s occupied, got it? Keep on movin’ your ass, find some other farm to hole up in.”
The last time he had any sort of hope that maybe this shit heap of a world wouldn’t screw him over...
Daryl was staring at himself. A different him, completely. It was so long ago that he could barely remember that time. The area was beautiful and peaceful and everything that he’d been hoping for. Still, the chill in the air was overwhelming in ways he had yet to understand. The him he was staring at, at least.
“Daryl.” He glanced up fully, his eyes meeting an all too similar pair. He struggled to take in a breath for a moment. This was him before Negan. Before the kidnapping, before he lost Rick, and Beth, and Carl. This whole thing was damn confusing. “I need you to listen t’me. I need you to put the bow down and listen.”
He was struggling to find the words. He usually did, but now was even harder. How do you explain to anyone that you time traveled to them? That you are them? He knew himself better than anyone, and he didn’t even know how to get started.

Daryl took a deep breath. He’d been spending all day clearing out the same small area and he was tired. It wasn’t like he was doing anything exciting-- just tilling the ground so more could be planted. He was glad for boring days like this. It meant everyone was fine. No fires to start, none to put out.
“Your turn.” He extended the shovel to the person beside him. “I’ll take over plantin’ beside you.”
For a moment, they both worked in silence, until he turned to them once more. He stared, making sure he didn't think he'd be judged too harshly for what he was about to say.
Screw it.
"I'm bored."

Rick was gone.
Daryl had just lost his best friend, his number one confidant. He didn’t care about anything anymore. He just wanted to get away from it and wander.
No matter what direction he went in, he just felt lost. He’d had moments like this on and off throughout this whole journey-- hell, his whole life was moments of feeling lost.
Still, somehow this felt different. They weren’t supposed to die, either of them.
Daryl only stopped moving aimlessly through the woods when his foot kicked something heavy and metal. He pulled it out of the dirt and examined it. It resembled an old radio and had six dials surrounded by numbers.
1-12.
1-31.
0-9.
0-9.
0-9.
0-9.
He read the bit carved into the side and for the first time in days, he actually let out a snort. If it hadn’t been for the bloody handprint directly beside it, he may have laughed, but it kept him in check.
“I think it works. Time machine.”
The thought was ridiculous, of course it was. Still, it made him think. If he could go back in time, when would he choose? Before this entire thing happened?
Nah, he’d be labelled crazy for warning the world and nothing would happen. All he could control was his own life and the moments in it since.
Not that any of this mattered.
Without much thought, he turned the dials to the approximate time that first popped into his head.
The light that shined from the device was blinding.
When he opened his eyes, he was standing on the Greene farm.

PSA no one asked for:
This has been on my mind.
I know that no one is accusing me of this, but I want to clear something up.
I am not looking to force ships on anyone.
Your Glenn or Daryl or Maggie or Negan can talk to my OCs and I promise you I am not thinking “ship” as the ultimate goal. They just want to talk. They want friends and enemies. They want to talk about the past and the future. You don’t have to be concerned about what they’re expecting.
Hilarie isn’t Ella’s face because I ship her with Negan (I actually don’t, that would have to be one special plot to change my mind). She’s her face because I like Hilarie. Because she’s from Virginia and so am I and I think that’s cool and because that’s where a lot of the seasons take place.
I guess what I’m saying is don’t be afraid to interact with my OCs because you think I’m going to try and force some relationship on them. I wouldn’t do that. I just want to write and they just want to be heard. Thank you.
