I actually use a google doc to keep track of the likes/dislikes of my friends & loved ones. details like food preferences, allergies, hobbies, favorite animals/flowers/flavors, gift ideas, birthdays… I have trouble remembering that stuff, so when I care about someone I write it down

What Indie Game Should Each Aspect Be Playing

Some of my favorite games over the past decade and my personal pairings with the twelve aspects

Time: Oxenfree

- Entire game is riddled with weird Time shit. Additionally, you play as a kid who never gives up and will break time itself if it means doing what she sets out to do.

Space: Fez 

- Core mechanic of the game involves accessing a third dimension in a two-dimensional setting, which is implemented in the absolute fuckiest ways.

Heart: The Stanley Parable

- At its core, an analysis of the nature of stories and the reality of the self. Also makes the player question their sense of self probably more than any other game on here.

Mind: Transistor

- Core mechanic of the game allows you to freeze time and plot out a flawless and precise course of action based on the choices laid out in front of you. You also unlock new abilities by uploading the digitized Minds of the fallen to your sword. And thats badass.

Hope - Undertale

- Dreaming a better world into existence, and doing right no matter how many times that shitty flower tries to convince you otherwise

Rage - Untitled Goose Game

- No explanation required, moving on.

Light: The Talos Principle

- A love note written for humanity’s historical search for understanding and truth. Doubles as a complex analysis of legacy and relevance. Triples as a game that makes me really sad if I think about it for too long.

Void - Kentucky Route Zero

- I honestly have no idea how to begin to explain what Kentucky Route Zero is, youre just gonna have to trust me when I say that it has Big Void Energy written all over it.

Breath - Starbound

- You have a spaceship, a ragtag crew of misfits, and hundreds of planets out in the galaxy just waiting to be discovered and explored. Its so easy to just get lost in it all.

Blood - Darkest Dungeon

- An unforgiving game that demands the cooperation between adventurers united only by the vision of survival in an uncaring ruin, bound together in self-exile. As a bonus, there is never a shortage of literal Blood to go around at any given time.

Life - Stardew Valley

- At its core, a game about healing and growth. Escape from the life you once led and learn to be happy again - and then, show the rest of the valley how they can too.

Doom - Hollow Knight

- Walk the echoes of a long-dead kingdom, chasing down memories of the past, all while dealing with your own soulless existence. Something about this game just makes you feel this terrible emptiness inside you.

Honorable Mentions - Gone Home, Hyperlight Drifter, Gris (Games I love to death but didnt quite fit neatly into an aspect)

some tweets re: chucklefish for those of you who have been out of the loop like i have. many, many artists were exploited and never paid a single cent for their work on starbound.

while stardew is 100% a creation by concernedape and he split with chucklefish last year (which was the game’s former publisher), i think it’s important to know since CF is currently in charge of the switch and mobile ports (though sickhead and secret police are the actual porting teams behind it).

and some stardew specific info from twitter user @magiclueless: “For a case like Stardew Valley's, if you don't want money to go to Chucklefish, buy the PC/PS4/XB1/Vita versions or directly support ConcernedApe by buying his music on Bandcamp.”

edit: i’m not familiar with chucklefish’s other games, but i would encourage others to look into the actual developers and teams behind their games, since CF is sometimes just a publisher. look into how to directly support the devs and artists, whether it be buying their stuff off of bandcamp or boosting their voices and work on various platforms!
