I’m unable to tell a man how to father because I am not one.. but what I can say is how a father should make you feel..the love that should flow between a man and his seed.
An offspring should know the love of their father and it is not their responsibility to peel back the layers of their fathers experiences or traumas to then discover that they loved the only way they knew how.. and it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain a relationship when there is a refusal to change patterns of behavior in order to love correctly..there is a thing called grace and forgiveness and in the same respect a father has to take accountability..
I’m learning that as a daughter I must be accountable for my hearts posture towards my father.
On this Father’s Day while I am grateful and celebrate the exceptional father that my spouse is, I’m also saddened by the state of my relationship with my father. The stress, anger and rage that I feel when simply hearing his voice. The realization of the toxic nature of our relationship is disheartening and exhausting.
So, God search my heart and remove bitterness and hatred.. heal me so that I may forgive. Despite my father’s words and actions let me be made whole so that I can love him freely, the way you’ve intended me to.
For anyone experiencing complexities in their relationship with their father, I pray that God touches your heart just as he will touch mine.. and that our father’s hearts be turned to us and our hearts be turned to them.
