I am 21 years old, a young adult making the most of my life. I was born and raised in the small town of Atimonan.
Most people, especially my friends and family, call me by my nickname, JM, but some also call me Eco and Kuya Iko. I honestly find this cute, though.
Aside from being a student and a leader as well, I am also a performer and an artist, continuously learning and exploring more about my craft and passion, and this is where I usually express myself.
When asked if I am an introvert or an extrovert, I would say that I am somewhere in between. How I am as a person depends on the situation and the people I am with. I can be the loudest person in the room when I'm comfortable with the people, and I can also be the most reserved when I am not.
I love to spend my time with people, especially with my friends and family, but I also enjoy having my alone time just to reflect and catch up on myself.
I started dancing at the age of 5. Growing up, this is what I enjoyed doing. This gave me quite a handful of dancing experiences and performances.
Whenever I dance, my body naturally flows with the sound of the music. I feel like a totally different person whenever I dance, and that is what I really like about dancing. It gives me confidence and freedom to express myself.
Photographs mean so much to me. It can hold memories, relive moments, and even serve as a reminder whenever we seem to forget.
I started taking photographs using only my mobile phone during junior high school. My skills improved as the years went by. I started joining mobile photography contests during the pandemic and was able to earn two trophies for being a runner-up in two competitions.
I certainly believe that art is an extension of ourselves and our vision. This can also serve as a reflection of who we are as artists and as people. With art, I am free to express myself. I am free to create something from my seemingly playful imagination.
"A million dreams is all it's going to take," as it says on my favorite inspirational song from the film "The Greatest Showman."
I've got a handful of dreams, for I am a dreamer. Most of my dreams hold a special place in my heart, especially those that I have been dreaming of and aiming to achieve since I was just a young boy.
As for now, I am trusting the process while working on my dreams so I can turn them into reality.
To become an educator was actually neither my first choice nor included in my dreams. It was just then that life eventually led me to where I am today and where I will be in the coming years. The inspiration that I've gotten from my teachers, whom I really looked up to and who also saw something in me that I didn't actually see in myself, made me do my best to pave my way toward becoming a future educator.
As I embody what life has made me realize, I know that the road to becoming an educator will never be easy. There will be ups and downs. I can never predict my own future, but I have the power to build and re-direct it. I'll just need to keep moving forward.
Looking back, I realized that I had come a long way already. Gaya nga ng sinasabi nila, "Malayo pa, pero malayo ka na". The past few years, together with the people who held my back, have taught me things that have built the person I am today, and I will always be grateful for that.
I know that there's still a long road ahead. A handful of learnings and discoveries will happen on this journey, and I will continue to look forward to that.
Tuloy lang ang byahe. 🤎
