Masquerade/Carnival [Epilogue]

Chapter Overview

February 2023, RED Novo Hamburgo

This chapter is set 800 years after the last chapter. Here, a mysterious youth of unknown gender attends a great party celebrating the end of a period of war and disease. Could this youth be Prince Kylo Amidala, now famed to have become immortal? The mystery remains, as a mask covers his true identity...

Major Events of Chapter

A mysterious masked youth arrives at the celebration, together with a notorious criminal.

The youth fights some people who were disturbing the line.

They try to tame a wild animal, but fail.

The youth removes their mask to the only person who accepts their mission.

Chapter Background

This Chapter was supposed to take place in a carnival party at the beginning of 2020, that is, to happen earlier in the Trilogy's chronology than the Confinement Chapter, but some misfortunes happened and I couldn't attend the party. As the pandemic started, I decided as soon as it was over I would redo this Chapter properly. I also chose it to mark the end of the Trilogy.

Thousands of things changed in my life during the three years this Chapter waited to be brought to life, but regarding the trilogy the most important were the acceptance of my non-binary gender and my new hyperfixation, Chinese historical drama.

That meant it felt unnatural for me to keep the Prince as purely a Kylo Ren AU version. I wanted to create something that kept the essence of Kylo Amidala, but highlighted my new interests. It should be also a reminder of the changing nature of my hyperfixations, the ultimate ode to impermanence in a Trilogy that was already centered around this theme.

For Prince Kylo Amidala to be as free as he wanted to be, he must not exist as himself, instead as thousands of self-referencing moments, characters and states of mind. For Prince Kylo Amidala to be himself, he needs to be everyhting else.

For the Trilogy to end in true manner without regret and faithful to its core, Kylo Amidala needs to be Xue Yang.

In the end, everyone transfigurates. As did this Trilogy.

Kylo returns to his palace, finding it in ruins. Unable to go out without being recognised, he confines himself at home, decided to study the Dark Side until he’s the most powerful being in the world.

The isolation torments his mind, severing him from reality. The madness sets in, he sees what the eyes can't tell, listens to what the ears can't perceive, feels suffocated in his own breath. He sighs and whines, and falls to the ground, head spinning.

Tormented by memories, he returns to his garden, hoping to find solace on the beauty of his ancient life. Withered away, the flowers turned into a lifeless dark dirt, which he clutches firmly. As his youth, they shall never return.

Apart from his fellow Living Humans, Kylo begins to pine. To remain aside, to not see the face of a man for too long, it troubles the mind and fills one with woe. His mind is fed too well with books and spells, unlike his heart that starves for affection.

Knowledge is power and this he knows it well. As his wisdom on the Dark Side grows, so does the love for himself, his body, and all the wicked things he can do.

He becomes a God of Destruction, his hands destroyers of galaxies.

No longer dwelling among Living Humans, Kylo shall be forever tied to his close encounters with Death. In confinement, Death stalks him, confronts him, and they waltz together as two most dear friends: the skull no more a reminder of one’s mortality, instead a companion.

His experiences and knowledge tell him too apart of Living Humans. He stays all alone and dances with the dead every night, as they whisper their damned songs on his ears, turning immaterial as his body moves, and material again in a blink of the eye- reborn from the world of Death, he’s more ghost than man.

Confinement

Chapter Overview

April 2020, my house

Kylo returns to his palace, finding it in ruins. Unable to go out without being recognised, he confines himself at home, decided to study the Dark Side until he’s the most powerful being in the world, but the isolation slowly drives him mad. 

Major Events of Chapter

Kylo returns to his palace and finds out not only nobody is there anymore, but Hux is dead

He goes to the library of his abandoned palace and discovers forbidden books on Dark powers

He can’t leave his palace anymore as he’s presumed dead, so he decides to study the Dark Side until he has power enough to bring Hux back to life

After years without seeing a soul, his mind starts deteriorating. His memories come back to him, tormenting him, and he feels trapped

Chapter Background

As we all know, 2020 was the beginning of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. By April, lockdown measures around the world were already being observed, including my country. “Stay-at-home” TikTok cosplay challenges were becoming a trend, and one of these challenges offered me the ideal settting for adding a new Chapter to the Trilogy.

The third Hux broke up with me in the first months of 2020, leaving Kylo again with no Hux. But this time, Kylo knows he doesn’t need to die to find Hux again. He’s done things no human has done before, befriended Gods, escaped Death twice. He is powerful, and knows that. 

Like lots of us, he discovered how strong he was when faced with an unbearable mix of lack of human contact and ferocious determination of surviving. Likewise, he saw his sanity slowly drifting away from him. This Chapter is nothing more than an artist’s impression on the global pandemic and its effects on one’s mind.

Rebirth

In a ritual on the Day of the Dead, Kylo is brought back to life, this time in the house of a drunken mafiaman. He used all his energy escaping from the Underworld, and now he’s very weak and needy.

Now in a peaceful estate, Kylo lets go of the heavy robes of the damned. His make-up returns, doll-like and innocent as a babe just born into this world. His dress is light and jewels simple, destituted of his Prince status, now he values feeling burden-free.

Escape from the Underworld

Kylo gets a hint Hux might still be in the Land of the Living, and decides to leave the Underworld to be with him again, but no mortal ever made the way back. The path is confusing and uneven, and he’s attacked by memories and personal ghosts during all the way.

Struggling, with no means to know where he is heading to, he clings in despair to his grandfather’s skull. He whines and yells, faces defiantly the ghosts to make them scared, but his humanity torments him too bad.

Escape from the Underworld

Kylo gets a hint Hux might still be in the Land of the Living, and decides to leave the Underworld to be with him again, but no mortal ever made the way back.

Kylo stands ready to face mortal peril. He ditches his majestic long skirts that would merely make him trip and fall, and covers his skin whole to defend his body from whatever might try him. No more makeup, his decay is visible on the lifelessness of his skin, the wounds from where worms have broken it fully on sight. A bright green strip runs across his face- so when dark light covers his way, his face will be a light in the shadows.

In this Chapter Kylo has become King in the Underworld, a long time after he died.

He feels pretty self confident and allows himself to break the severity of expression that has been his torment throughout his entire stay in the Land of the Living.

King in the Underworld

In this Chapter Kylo has become King in the Underworld, a long time after he died. His passion for Hux is all but gone, and now he enjoys afterlife as a powerful being.

His attire is all too similar to what he wore once damned forever, instead this time the darkness surrounds him, a weigh no more, now he commands it. The sorrowful tears have dried and changed for a war paint, his deep and dark eyes show no trace of the innocence they once had. His corpselike mouth bleeds rotten blood, his fingers blackened by decay. Abandoning his royal family, he tosses aside his crown, adorning himself with a flower as deadly as he: the belladonna.

Underworld

In this chapter Kylo Amidala goes to search for Hux again, this time in the Underworld, but now his soul is damned and he can’t go back. He ends up befriending the other lost souls, and having encounters with long lost friends.

In these pictures you can see some creatures/ghosts/demons from the Underworld, as well as a particularly intimate encounter between Kylo and one of them (played by the performer Vee Wayward)

Underworld

In this chapter Kylo Amidala goes to search for Hux again, this time in the Underworld, but now his soul is damned and he can’t go back.

He is as exquisitely dressed as when he died, but now his attire has a deathly shadow. He wears a cape to shield his bones from the chill. His rotten lips lost the youthful red and now are pitch black. His healthy face is gaunt, his doe eyes surrounded by darkness. He weeps blood as he knows he can’t return to the Land of Living, and the necklace simulating a slit throat marks his mortality status: no more a Man, he’ll roam the Underworld forever as a Ghost.

Limbo

Kylo Amidala that goes to a beautiful fair in the woods, where the unresting souls of people from several ages reunite and pretend they are alive. He gets intoxicated, sings and dances.

You can see some of his dancing and the overall atmosphere of the celebration on this video.
