Illustration of the death of 10 year old Eileen Treacle. She was seen being pulled into Tappy East Creek in Burketsville, Maryland on August 13, 1825. Witnesses claimed to have seen a ghostly white hand reach out of the water and pull her in, drowning her.
The creek was searched but her body was never found, despite the creek only being inches deep. Several days later, the creek mysteriously became clogged with oily bundles of sticks, which contaminated the water, rendering the creek useless for thirteen days.
