Our second car has well over 150,000 miles on it. We began covering its back bumper and hatch with whimsical stickers dubbing it our beach jalopy. We trust it to drive to the ocean and back with all our needed sunny day supplies. Bought in 2018 from a friend, it is now 15 years old. The A/C fan was broken years ago after her then-boyfriend replaced the manufacturer’s stereo with an Alpine; ironically, it was never chilly in that vehicle again.
Until…

…my babiest sister arrives.
I mention she might enjoy driving it and explain its quirks but, when I go to prep it for her, the battery is dead. I call roadside assistance who jumps the car and reassures me that the battery reads new, which it is, and the alternator is fine. I just need to start it more often than I have. As they leave, I realize it is cool in the car?!? THE FAN IS WORKING.

I did get it checked. The mechanic was equally reassuring that all is well.

All of my blogs are a trauma response. I think I am only now understanding Who I Am…and I like Her.

Anxious. Fearful. Overwhelmed. Intimidated.
I remember her.
I just want to hug her and tell her she’ll ended up near the ocean, after all that.
