Week thirteen and fourteen are combined into one journal entry this week. Week thirteen I was only in the office two days, and week fourteen was also cut a day short. For the two days I was at LeanDog during week thirteen, my time was solely dedicated to the Agile Explained Class, since it was on that upcoming Monday. We had originally planned to cook meals, but in typical LeanDog fashion, plans changed. We made sure all of the major pieces and parts were taken care of, such as having the right supplies.
That next week, my Tuesday was completely dedicated to the logistics of the class. I made sure the classroom was set up which involved moving a lot of tables and chairs, everything was prepped for the meals, and basically acted as Sahithya’s right hand man.The day of the class I came in early to welcome people and help set up the breakfast we had catered.
I also paired with Nadia to go over a lot of HR stuff I have never seen before. She showed me a Vendor Management System called IQ Navigator for a major clothing retailer. They use this to post open job requisitions for preferred vendors to fill. Nadia showed me how she goes about finding someone for a job posting and let me thoroughly dive into IQ Nav and see what its all about. That same day I also sat in on a phone call for this retailer. This is where they discussed all of the jobs that were listed and got more in depth on the status of the open job and more specifically what they are looking for. The rest of my week was devoted to cleaning up details for the air show. Thursday, I met with Audrey from Arras Keathley (the other side of the boat) and we discussed a few ideas for that weekend. Ultimately we agreed on splitting the cost of a popcorn maker and an ice cream cooler for the event.
Friday, my day was devoted to cleaning up the Air Show invite list. We still had 100 people that haven’t responded at all. I spent my morning organizing a spreadsheet to be shared with the leadership team. It was a little time consuming since I indicated our relationship to every invitee on the spreadsheet. I am hoping this will help get more responses.
The biggest thing I learned this week is that I can take away a lot from simply listening, or as Nadia calls it “easy listening.” When I paired with her, I learned a lot of valuable information in regard to how staffing works, all by simply listening and watching.
Next week I expect my week to be heavily consumed by Air Show planning, since it is quickly approaching. I also hope to clean up the accounting processes before I go back to school. I may also have an opportunity to help Lisa with her KPIs and get prepared for my fall schedule at LeanDog.

Week 12 has been one of my slower weeks to date. While still busy, I noticed a little lack of backlog of work for myself. I started my week off by making revisions to my final project based off of the feedback Nadia gave me. After carefully going through and making (what I hope to be) final revisions to the handbook, I sent those off to Lisa to be shared with one more person before they are complete.
I also spent a good chunk of time revising the accounting processes again. It’s a pretty time-consuming and tedious task to try and make accounting jargon and steps easy to understand for anyone. I used some color-coding and bolding to aid in this.
Also, Sahithya’s Agile Explained Class is quickly creeping up, so I have been helping her with more logistical pieces to the puzzle. Since this class is 8-5pm, LeanDog wants to provide a home-cooked breakfast, lunch and snacks to the students. I got the fun job of searching for some pretty awesome meals and picking what we will serve at the class. Next week I will be meeting with Sahithya, and Carrie (the one who will be cooking) next week to go over what I would like to do.
Nadia and I also spent time pairing. I spent part of last week finalizing a document with all of people we needed to invite to the Air Show. After I crafted the Air Show Evite, Nadia and I gave this list one more look through and officially sent out the Evite. From now on, I need to monitor the Evite to keep track of how many people are coming as well as answer any questions. We also started to look into what kind of food and drink we want to serve. To help, I introduced Nadia to the world of Pinterest! We came up with some great ideas. Next week I am going to look into some fun stuff like a cotton candy maker and popcorn maker.
This week I learned that no task is too small (or too big) for an intern. I have been given some great and fulfilling projects during my time at LeanDog and have also been given some much smaller and less challenging tasks. I’ve learned that they are all important and there is something to gain from each and every project I do here on the boat.
Next week I will only be on the boat Tuesday and Wednesday, so I anticipate spending those two days helping Sahithya polish up for the Agile Explained as well as further Air Show planning.

Week eleven started off great for me! I found out that I would be staying with LeanDog once I go back to school. I still need to figure out how to balance my schedule appropriately, but am very excited to continue with such a great company.
The spreadsheet from last week most definitely poured into this week. We finally finished filling out all of the information and now were finally able to use the data to contact potential customers for our Agile Explained Class. I spent my week going through and cross-referencing different tabs of our spreadsheet to make sure we were only targeting the people we wanted to target. That included separating by state, and then separating even further into regions.
Once everything was split, Sahithya and I paired to send emails to the people we wanted to contact. This took up a good portion of my week since it is very tedious and involved paying close attention.
Now that Nadia is back from her conference, I can finish up my final project with her hopefully next week. Nadia and I paired on preparing for the air show by creating a more specific spreadsheet of the people we want to invite. I also taught her some social media tips and tricks so we could promote the conference she just attended.
At first, I was a little concerned with how much time I was spending on the training spreadsheet, but now that it is complete, I fully see how necessary and useful it really is. Next week I plan on working more with Sahithya since the training session she is planning is on August 20th. She is planning on shifting her focus more to content and marketing, which I am really excited to help out with. Now that Nadia is back I also expect to focus more on projects that have been more or less blocked.
