Break ideas
Want to take a break from studying but you don’t want to end up just scrolling through social media like a zombie? Here are some break ideas:
10 minutes or less:
go get a glass of water
make yourself a cup of tea
jurnal a bit
ask someone for a massage or just ease the tension in you shoulders yourself
go over your goals or to-do list
play with pets
make a snack (healthy if possible)
listen to music
watch a short youtube video
10 minutes or more:
stretch
work out
write a poem
draw a picture
watch an episode of your favourite show
play with pets but LONGER
spend time with family
call a friend (or text them if you aren’t a fan of phonecalls like me)
prepare lunch for the next day
watch a long youtube video
go for a walk
take a nap (shorter than 20 minutes is the best for refreshing your mind)
shower
listen to a podcast
Have an amazing day and good luck!

op ed: i don’t care and neither should you
Word is circulating on this site that studyblrs tend to glorify expensive things in studyspo pics: Tombow brush pens, Macbooks, iPads, Mossery or Rifle Paper Co journals, etc. I actually don’t think there is anything wrong with that. Studyblr, like any hobby, is commercialized. Some people are just going to have more expensive gear than you. Studyblr, like life, is commercialized. People are always going to have more expensive stuff than you: houses, cars, clothes, etc. But if I can’t change the way you feel, the question remains: what are you going to do about it? Go out and charge brush pens you don’t need or write an inspiring masterpost that won’t cost you a cent? Are people really concerned that their lack of a white desk and good natural lighting will cost them likes and reblogs? Studyblr should be above caring how many notes a post has. Do it for yourself, not for validation. Post pics of your messy desk if it makes YOU happy. Write motivational posts because YOU get something out of it (other than notes). So, that is the opinion some people requested. I don’t know if it’s controversial. All I know is that what other people have shouldn’t matter. You can be awesome with whatever you have right now.

This fall semester’s focus:
Breaking patterns and habits that no longer serve their purpose
Setting boundaries and being honest with yourself, your body, and others
Avoiding quick fixes that are counterproductive to your end goal
Being aware of the ways fear can momentarily paralyze you

9 More things to keep in your schoolbag everyday
Yesterday I made a post with 10 things I bring with me to school everyday, and it blew up like crazy!
So with all the feedback I got and some thing I thought of later, I decided to make a part two
Some of these are more in-depth because I’m clumsy and I end up making a mess of any situations (great example is number 6)
Link to the first one: click here
1. Pencil sharpener. I mentioned the basics to bring for stationary, but forgot that not every school has classroom sharpeners. So if your school doesn’t have one, make sure to put a small pencil sharpener in your pencil case with all the other things I mentioned before.
2. Small aid kit. Nothing drastic, but a few band-aids and paracetamol will get you really far. And for anyone that has menstruation, keeping some ibuprofen are a great add on for the little kit, as well as some panty-liners, pads and/or tampons. Even if you’re not on your period, a classmate might be in need.
3. Backup food. You never know when you’re gonna be in need of just a little more energy than usual. Keeping a granola bar or a bag of nuts (or something along those lines) in your bag can really be helpful.
4. Usb-stick. Always have an usb on you. You might need to use a computer from school. You might use internet access while you want to save a file to your drive/cloud, or you might have to get your file to a different computer to print. Whatever it is, keeping a small usb stick in your bag is a necessity. Opt for one that isn’t too big/expensive. An 8GB usb is already enough, so don’t blow your money on a 256GB.
5. Pocket Stapler. Not a necessity for everyone, but I like to keep my tiny stapler in my bag as well. I like to print notes every once in a while (I don’t like my handwriting), so to keep them together I staple them. It’s a lot easier to keep a pocket stapler with you than a file-folder
6. Wet Wipes. I used to only bring a pack of wipes because I wear makeup and I wanted to be able to take my lipstick off if I wanted to, but these things are amazing! Food stains on your shirt, sweaty armpits, a broken pen that left ink everywhere (sadly this happens to me a lot lol), these wipes will help clean up your mess without you needing to go to a janitor first to ask for supplies. Just get a pack of 10 wet wipes at Walmart or the Dollar Store, and you’re set.
7. Sunglasses. Just like the umbrella from part 1, the sunglasses aren’t always gonna be necessary, but having them on you is great. Especially if you have to walk/cycle outside for a longer time to get home after school.
8. Glasses wipes. For anyone with glasses, you know how easy it is to get them dirty. But confidence grows when you look your best, right? So take a few wet glasses wipes with you, and check if your glasses need a clean every break
That reminds me
9. Glasses. If you wear your glasses at all time this is obvious, but if you wear contacts it’s important to still take your glasses. You never know when your eyes will start irritating and you need to take your contacts out.
I’m most likely gonna be doing a back to school series on here, so if you like these two posts make sure to check back (or follow me if you want) if you wanna see all of the posts on back to school season.

welcome to part 2 of the dorm living series! (part one is here) in this segment, we discuss the weird and wonderful world of living on top of dozens of your peers. lots of people have never had to live so closely with so many people and so little adult supervision, and there’s definitely a learning curve. here are some tips to make your transition to communal living go a little smoother.
be considerate in common spaces! don’t leave dishes in the sink, don’t hog the dryer, don’t leave your hair in the shower drain. by second semester, people will know what your dishes and your hair and your underwear look like, and they will know it was you.
be cool to your maintenance staff! find out their names, say hello and thank you when you see them, stop and chat if you can. they work super hard cleaning up everybody’s nasty messes and they are people too.
befriend your RA! RAs are not the enemy (the administration is the enemy! remember that!) and they can be a great resource. as older students they have a ton of useful experience and insider advice about your school that they can share with you. more importantly they also are the foremost experts in getting away with stuff and what rules you can and cannot break. (my freshman RA was a kickass aspiring cia agent who, when I ended up alone in the dorms during spring break, let me use her tv and cuddle her illegal rabbit.)
be aware of noise! cinderblock is slightly less soundproof than paper. your nextdoor neighbors can hear your alarm every time you snooze it, and they hate it. try not to do anything loud late at night or early in the morning on weekdays. on weekends all noise bets are off and i regret to inform you that if you try to control weekend noise, YOU are probably being the jerk.
don’t set off the fire alarm! figure out how sensitive your smoke detectors are, and don’t fuck with them. i’m not going to tell you not to light a candle/make microwave popcorn/straighten your hair/whatever, but for the love of god don’t do any of those things right under a smoke alarm. also, the perfect time to cook a bag of popcorn without burning it is 2 minutes and 40 seconds. you’re welcome.
in conclusion: i said this in part one and i don’t want to be a broken record but DORMS ARE SMALL. you will know everybody’s business and everybody will know your business. especially in a freshman dorm, it’s a close knit and not at all soundproof environment. if everybody makes a commitment not to be a jerk, you’ll make some great friends and have a great time! even if some people are jerks, you will at the very least have some stories that are really hilarious in hindsight.
check out part one, PACKING!

The best moment of being an English major is when you realize that authorial intent literally doesn’t matter and that it’s all based on textual evidence and critical theory and if you can prove a theory with the text it’s essentially canon and then you realize that the discipline of literary studies is just a bunch of book nerds wanting to theorize about head canons they got too obsessed with.

every semester, without fail, there’s some freshman who’s like “oh I never check my email lol” and i get worried for them, bc they’re going to miss some important email about a pop quiz or a test, or something and then fail. so if you’re a freshman reading this, CHECK YOUR EMAIL im not joking, professors will send you stuff via email that they’ll never mention in class. I’m in my email every hour on the hour before and after class. check that shit. put that app on ur phone, turn on notifs, go in and refresh every hour, check your spam, check your email
this has been a message from your concerned dad. check ur email, do well in school, i love you
