Pall Mall, TN. The Wolf River Valley was an integral part of my childhood's atmosphere. I went to church at the Wolf River Methodist Church with my family every Sunday as a small child, and for a brief period we lived on a country road called Rotten Fork. Charming, eh? The river had a distinctly sulfuric smell, like an egg salad sandwich you forgot in your lunchbox.
My childhood was spent playing at the York park and every year my school went on field trips to see WWI reenactments in the field pictured. They even went so far as to dig a replica trench when I was in, oh, fifth grade. You better bet they hauled us out there right after it was built.
There are two sights out there open for tours: the grist mill and Alvin York's home. The rest is for you to interpret as you travel the countryside, which I highly encourage anyone who reads this to do. Get out there and see what life is like there and truly experience it, take every backroad until you're lost. Albeit -- there is a lot more information accessible in what is now the park visitor center, but when I was a child, it was a general store that had really good bologna sandwiches.
