This may be fighting words but...

The new ruroken anime is pretty. Truly is. But it's like a pretty, glorified slideshow.

Which great, yeah there's a place for that. The improvement in color and design quality is nice. Speaking from the standpoint that has some foundational understanding of the process behind animation... It's kind of outclassed. For instance, the last major fight of the first season compared in the '96 to '23 version. Absolutely not sorry, the original is way more dynamic, as far as animation techniques are concerned. This isn't just nostalgia either. A lot of the shots are way more dynamic in the original and sadly much more static in the remake. I hate to say it, but it feels like a washed out cash grab in that respect.

I still appreciate it for what it is but it's definitely a little underwhelming regarding dynamic scenes.

Also, petty aside, but the first intro song did not suit Kenshin very well, though the second was great.

Furthermore, sail the seven seas, don't pay pedo fees. 🫶

Five years have passed since Goro Akechi panicked, dilberated and eventually turned himself in to the authorities, owed to much inner conflict and turmoil. After serving his time at a psychiatric hospital for convicts, we join the posse once known as the Phantom Thieves as they guide this wayward young man down a path of redemption during his year of probation. With some hiccups along the way, we watch as these once tortured, forgotten children grow into individuals that help shape the society they wish to see—starting with a selfless act of understanding and rehabilitation. Will their attempts be successful? And what does being well in a dysfunctional society look like, anyway?

Notes:

Akeshusumi/Royal Trio Polyamory, Yutaba, Ryuann, Makoharu, Goro & Futaba half-siblings, and Makoto doesn't become a cop.

This is largely domestic fluff and wish fulfillment for those that may have wanted more out of the royal ending. There is a focus on the royal trio/throuple mainly because they don't get a ton of love, but other relationships are explored as well. I will be continuing this work every other weekend and would love constructive feedback.

Finally hunkering down to play through P5R now that I have some peace. I’ve missed drawing everyone so much, and want to try making a new set of prints featuring them! After I finish taking notes on the new content, I hope to revisit the P5F doujinshi (❁´◡`❁)
