and I think of the first nights of June spilling over the skies in a cascade of weirdly trembling stars. late bloody sunsets followed by such strangely dark nights, even though so short you might miss them entirely if you stare into the fire too long.

the heat of day yielding sweetly to the cold of the hours just after midnight, oh how they bite your bare shoulders, how they send a shiver down your chest. the anticipation of something more. the mystery that every summer carries, even if it stabs you in the back in the end.

the short-lived overwhelming belief that you are endless, immortal, eternal, forever. and the sweet blissful relief that comes after laughing it all off.
