what I would love is just. acknowledgement that what dean did in hell and the fact he adapted to enjoy it wasn’t something he chose to do in any way. that choosing to do sth is not the same as being tortured into it. i know the show’d never have done that it was too busy doing other stuff. idk i’d just have liked SOMEONE to mention it instead of holding dean responsible for it like it was just... any other bad decision someone made. a mistake, like taking on the mark or trusting gadreel. it’s not a mistake dean made, it was a survival tactic

the fact that sam has no friends despite being like a relatively well adjusted nice person and his brother who is genuinely insane mess who constantly pushes people away and fucks up their lives has legions of people who adore him would drop anything for him top ten funniest parts of supernatural

i think the reason so many people in other fandoms will say stuff like “___ is the new november 5th” is that they make the mistake of believing that november 5th was a single day of fandom chaos when in actuality november 5th was a years-long manic state of collectively experienced hysteria that included a vast web of intersecting episodes, scenes, translations of episodes, script drops, actors/writers/translators/etc, multiple fan weddings, anniversaries, cons clips, tweets, articles, a 12 year long history of theories and lore, a boom in fan content so large it broke AO3 records, and countless other things from days of the week to jewelry. nothing has ever or will ever come close to being november 5th.

Sometimes I remember that the only reason Cas is canonically a weirdo even by angel standards is just because Misha, the first onscreen angel, made the acting choice to portray angels as inhuman and eerie, and then all of the subsequent angel actors just ignored that and portrayed the angels as regular people.

crazy that sam’s otherness was so integral to the plot in the early seasons. sammy’s a freak. sammy’s a little off. There’s Something A Bit Different about sammy. nondescript guy w blueberry shot. but then in the later seasons, dean is so fundamentally Othered and they just straight up. don’t go into it. dean doesn’t have a female soulmate in heaven bc reasons. dean wants to experience people & feelings Differently than he has before but we won’t go into it. dean’s own subconscious asks him ‘how come you only want what you can’t have?’: dean as a character is aware of his own otherness, but the narrative itself bends to ignore it. dean has to die on the rusty nail bc sam is the normal one now and dean wouldn’t fit the mold of 1 wife and 2.5 kids: that’s intrinsically not who he is anymore. dean winchester constantly toes the line of this spoken/unspoken Difference and the story ties itself into knots with this dichotomy of introducing and acknowledging it, but simultaneously avoiding its resolution. (the resolution being of course, that dean is queer and loves cas back). just. so interesting that we have this direct comparison of sam (otherness by design) vs dean (otherness by mistake). spn truly did the Most to avoid following the natural path of the narrative huh
