Things you should never say to a mentally ill person:
- You don’t “seem” mentally ill.
- Get over it.
- What have you got to be depressed about? Your life is fine.
- Have you tried just not thinking like that?
- You don’t need medicine, you just need yoga/kale/exercise, etc.
- You’re not going to shoot up a mall or something, are you?
- I don’t think mental illness exists. You’re faking.
- You’re fine, your psychologist is just trying to make money off you.
- I have all these problems in my life, but you don’t see me complaining.
- You just want an excuse to miss work.
- You’re looking for attention.
- Just try thinking positive thoughts for once.
- I used to be sad too, until I realized that my life is great.
- Suicide is selfish. You’re being selfish.
