Chester Upland School District, Boys & Girls Club of Chester and it’s Community Partners are back for its Spring Youth and Family Summit.
I had the pleasure alongside Making A Change Group to coordinate some of the youth workshops/activities. A day full of fun, family and community, I believe its safe to say that the Spring Youth and Family Summit was a success! A huge thank you to my workshop and vendors; Tiana Caldwell, Kristie Barnes, and the fellows of the Abstract Reality Art Gallery.

Making A Change Group ‘s annual “We Are One” Benefit event is always exciting. This year along with live performances and a delicious buffet, we incorporated a silent auction of art pieces. This was my first time coordinating a silent auction & I’m happy to say it was a success 😊 @cory_b_long thank you for trusting me to get the job done! Major love to everyone who came out and donated to our children in the community!

I was awarded the opportunity of coordinating a very special event; a paint party with a twist of plant based treats! This paint party was event number #2 of the “You Can Sit With Us” series presented by @TheDaily7Eats. I loved this event, it combined both creativity and community and was held right at the Abstract Reality Art Gallery in downtown Chester, PA.

This was my second year working for Tidal as a brand ambassador and it was a blast! I worked in the “Members Only Lounge” where VIPs could get free Tidal Merch, be apart of artist meet and greets and more! This year’s highlights for me was watching both Kendrick and Meek perform. I also got to meet rapper Lil B and network with some amazing people during the festival. Who knows what exciting things next year will bring and I’ll be right there front and center!

Imagine…as you arrived at the entrance of the building, you are welcomed by a red carpet complete with live interviews, photographers and local celebrities. You saw people dressed in red carpet attire looking like A list celebrities. It was an event that was quoted as being a night this city will never forget by multiple people in attendance.
The Missing Plug Award Show was created to honor the different community leaders, entrepreneurs and artists throughout the city of Chester. This award show spotlighted the beauty, hard work, talent, and teamwork that the city of Chester has to offer.
It was truly an awe-inspiring event. Walking in you received nothing but love, similes, and encouragement from all in attendance. The excitement of honoring all the different hard workers from all over the city filled the room. Community activist and entrepreneur Cory Long quoted “The Award Show is (a) great way to show unity and appreciation for the people that work hard to improve the culture and quality of life in Chester.” The show was completed with live performances from Jamai, Zaje, TYE, and so much more.
The Missing Plug Award Show was a people choice award show as nominees were chosen by submissions from people who wanted to honor someone who they felt deserved it. People could nominate their favorite artist, entrepreneur, and business for a variety of different categories.
The winners were as followed:
People’s Champ: Nasir Leach
Musical Artist of the Year: Zaje & Siti
Entrepreneur of the Year: Breon Barrett
Business of the Year: Abstract Kings
Media Platform of the Year: CMP Radio
Best DJ Winner: DJ Deuxrelle
Visual Artist of the Year: Quan Knox
Many attendees spoke of already looking forward to next year’s show. Co-host Kristie Barnes stated that this show is “paving the way, giving the youth something to look forward to.”
This Award Show would not have been made possible without the help of the sponsors: Northern Marketing, DJ George, Tech + Wise Group, Reach & Teach Boxing Gym, The Phoenix BBQ & Seafood Pit, Chester Young Professionals, and Market Street Ballroom.
This Award Show was created by The Missing Plug. The Missing Plug is a brand created to enhance the culture with empowering events and multimedia. The Missing Plug coordinates
events and projects. Specializing in entertainment, The Missing Plug also has experience in coordinating business, community and social events. The Missing Plug plans to use our media platform to become #1 in exclusive events, taking ideas and brands to the next level.
The Missing Plug was created in July 2013 by Crystal Burrell. Crystal is an aspiring executive producer who wants to create experiences with purpose. She started this platform originally as a way to expose talent and positive things in her city, Chester PA. Everything began by her doing interviews with local rappers and putting together different events. Under TMP, Crystal created events & projects like Deeper Than Rap Music Show 1 & 2, TMP LIVE Talk Show & Dinner, Women Who Hustle Paint Party, Support The Homies Networking Event, and The Come Up Mixtape (co-coordinated). The Missing Plug has worked with brands like Tidal, Making A Change Group, Big Bad Radio, Crozer Keystone Community Foundation, MJ Freed Theater & more!

As a new mom my biggest concern when I was pregnant was how am I going to maintain The Missing Plug & take care of a baby. I did not want to lose my identify and dreams by becoming a mom. This past weekend I attended my first event dedicated to motherhood & business; Mom, Boss, Slay presented by @jerrewrites. This event consists of beautiful business women on similar journeys as myself. I can say I really enjoyed this event because it let me know I was not alone especially after hearing the panel speak about their different experiences. What I got from this event was that sometimes it may get rough, sometimes its may get overwhelming but all in all its all going to be okay. Being a mom does not mean my life is going to stop it really means it just began. So to all the moms out there, remember to Mom, Boss, Slay! In that order!

The Unhuman Entertainer strikes again! If you weren’t already familiar with Chester’s native Jamai then you might recognize him recently on the hit show The Voice! His blind audition not only attracted Kelly Clarkson but also the music phenomenon Mrs. Alicia Keys. (Watch the audition here). Jamai celebrated his Voice audition with hosting an event for his fans as a thank you for supporting him and TMP got the pleasure to attend. Jamai is one of those musicians that when he performs you feel the music, his every word and every melody deep in your soul. Supporters came out to experience the experience and Jamai did not disappoint as he played original songs as well as a few covers. He even stayed longer than his original set to play extra songs at the audience request. I am just so proud of him and wish him nothing but happiness and success in his new journey. You can catch Jamai on The Voice Mondays at 8pm!
