Are you flexible? If you can do the splits that is great. However, in strategic thinking, we are talking about having a flexible mindset. An assumption about strategic thinkers, is that they are rigid and unbending when it comes to their thought process. That is not the case in being a successful strategic thinker, especially when it comes to goal planning. You need to be envision a plan, start executing it and then have the ability to put the brakes on, so that you can shift your direction for success.
Keep an eye on your goal timelines and you will be able to spot the moments when it is time to do some strategic thinking about how to change direction for positive outcomes. When you engage your mind in strategic thinking, you eliminate the panic that might set in once you realize your goals are not moving you forward.
Strategic thinking means that you engage the whole brain, rather say the left side only which has to do with logic. If you are not a strategic thinker, you may find that you need to do some exercises to learn how to engage the whole brain and in this article, we will cover that later.

The never ending dream of residual income…
The perpetual dream of residual imcome…
Okay. So I have been speaking with people in my circle and on social media…
I’ve been getting to know some of my teammates and customers on a more personal basis and seeing what kind of content will help them.
One of the things that comes up over and over again but very few ever get is residual income.
Yup! It’s the dream of creating truly “residual income”… that kind of income that you work hard for once, and then don’t ever lift a finger again, yet it keeps pouring in.
I’m pretty sure you know what I’m talking about… And I know that a part of you wants to experience it yourself. Because I do too. That feeling of watching it roll in while you’re off hold up on a beach somewhere.

But here’s the deal…
That kind of residual income DOESN’T exist.
Honestly, it simply doesn’t exist. You’re sold the dream by savvy marketers who know and understand they’re marketplace at an intimate level and KNOW that it’s what you want.
They know you’re seeking it, and so they sell you on it.
Here’s reality though…
In our space, 97% of people who join a business or buy an information product NEVER do anything with those products or actually treat the business like a real business.
Which means… that after a few months, and after they’ve realized that it’s essentially not going to do all the work for them… they quit… thus destroying your hopes of building “residual income”.
But what about the 3% who don’t quit Troy? Won’t they go out and bring people in and create another 3% who does the same?
The short answer is yes… The long answer is that it will take potentially years and that everything has to go perfectly for that too happen.
Most of the time, a newer, sexier opportunity comes into play… and they bounce. Or maybe your company starts to experience fraud, and it scares them off. Or maybe, (hopefully not though), your company goes out of business altogether.
It’s VERY RARE that you see someone truly build lasting, residual income. Actually, according to statistics, only about 1% of the SUCCESSFUL (of the 3%) home business owners ever actually accomplish the “residual income dream”.
I hate to say it… but you’re damn near more likely to win the fu*ckn lottery!
So… to end my rant…
Here’s what I would advise:
Instead of chasing “the perpetual dream of residual income”, that btw, will never come to fruition, focus your efforts on how you can make the most money NOW.
Don’t do anything illegal, and don’t scam anyone, but ask yourself seriously, “how can I make the most money now”?
The answer… is high ticket sales with a recurring income component.
I promote 2 different main offers (along with a few smaller ones as well), Four Figure Funnels and, Global Profit System. These systems provide a recurring income which means that once set up. The system will provide income on an ongoing monthly basis. Similar to residual income.
And they both offer you the ability to make up to thousands per sign-up. So all I need to do… is focus on making 3 $3k in sales, and I’m damn near 10k a month.
Add into the equation a bunch of low ticket sales, and then a few $500 – $1,000 upsells, and I’m closing in on 15k a month.
Bottom line…
Focus your efforts on how you can make the most money NOW, and you’ll be much more profitable, much more quickly.

Affiliate marketing is an arrangement in which an online retailer pays you a commission for traffic or sales generated from your referrals.
For example, let’s say you’re an affiliate for the XYZ product. You recommend to me, your reader or subscriber, that I purchase XYZ and I do. You earn a commission on that sale because you are the one who referred me.
You’re promoting other people’s products – often through an affiliate network – to earn a commission when the people you refer buy the product.
And once you have your own products, you can offer promoters a financial incentive through an affiliate program to promote your products, too. We’ll cover this in the next section.
In affiliate marketing, it generally takes four parties to make a sale:
The product owner, or merchant
The affiliate who promotes the product (that’s you)
The customer who buys the product, thanks to your referral

Tip: Affiliate networks can also serve as databases of products you can promote. Clickbank.com is an excellent example of an affiliate network.
There are many ways to market affiliate products, but for our purposes here, we’ll talk about one of the easiest and most common methods to get started: Reviewing products in your niche.
By writing reviews, you can come across as an impartial third-party person who is helping the reader to decide between different options.
Well written reviews are not only helpful, but they can also rank high in the search engines, earning you free traffic.
Get the products in your hand and use them before writing your reviews, so that you know what you’re talking about.
Write about what you like and dislike concerning the product. Talk about how you personally used it, what you used it for, and how well it did its job. And be sure to include your affiliate link for those who want to purchase it.
On your website, be sure to collect email addresses of your visitors. You can do this with a Hello Bar across the top of the page, or an Exit Popup when someone leaves the page, and of course by adding a sidebar widget to every page.
In all of these locations, offer something for free such as a free report or video in exchange for your visitor’s email address.
Then keep your list apprised of all your latest product reviews. Even with a few hundred people on your list, you can create significant sales by sending them regular updates.
There are many more ways to sell affiliate products, but this will give you a good start.

  2: Selling Your Own Information Products
You can create and sell information products in almost any niche where people are willing to spend money to get information.
And you can get started before you even have your first product. In fact, it’s the best way to do it. Otherwise, you could spend weeks creating a product that no one wants to buy.
Here’s the process for refining and testing your idea prior to creating the product:
You have a product idea. Great! This is the place to start, but don’t get too attached to your idea yet.
Look for what products and services are already out there with the same idea.
Consider how you might improve upon them by delivering something that solves not only the customer’s problem, but also fills the gaps left by competing products.
Amazon is a great place to do this sort of research. You can find books on similar topics and see what the reviewers say.
Maybe there are topics missing from the books, or problems that aren’t properly addressed. Your information product can fill these gaps.
You can also check out Buzzsumo, which shows you what’s popular, based on social shares.
And finally, check on Youtube to find out what people want to know about this topic, what videos they’re watching, what their comments are and so forth.
Now that you’ve refined your idea, it’s time to validate it. After all, you don’t want to create a product just to find out that no one wants to buy it.
And the way you’re going to do that is to ask people to pay for it.
You’ll find these people by taking the URL from one of the posts on Buzzsumo and plug it into a tool called Topsy.
For example, maybe the Buzzsumo post was on how to build your own greenhouse. By plugging that link in, Topsy will show you a list of all the people who tweeted that greenhouse post’s link.
You then hit the reply button, and directly tell them about your idea. For example, @bobcushman Saw you like greenhouses, too

Would you buy a step by step video series that shows you exactly ow to build your own?
Make sure to ask if they will BUY your idea, not just if they like it. Saying they like something is not the same as spending money on it.
If they respond with a yes, give them the chance to buy it by replying with something like, “Awesome, here’s the link to buy: [LINK] Will create it if 5 people buy.
Once you cross your threshold and you’re sure that people will actually buy your product, then you can start to create it.
The actual process of creating of your product could take up an entire book of information – too much to include it all here. But if you’re interested, I’ll be recommending my favorite course on product creation in the near future.
  Information Product Creation Tips
Perfection is the Enemy
Your job is to create a product that is ‘good enough.’
For an information product, it’s important that you give useful, helpful information that your buyers can immediately put into use.
It’s not necessary to make it read like Shakespeare or have it formatted like a work of art.
Get your product good enough to ship, and then start selling it. If you wait until it’s perfect, you’ll never launch anything.
Don’t Go it Alone
Get affiliates on board as quickly as possible because they can reach far more potential buyers than you can.
Yes, you’ll pay them 50% commissions or better, but it’s totally worth it. Just think that for every sale they make, you’ll earn a percentage. But for sales never made, you earn nothing.
You can use tools such as Gumroad or Digital Product Delivery to easily set up affiliate programs and allow partners to collect commissions on their sales.
Stuck for Content? Interview Experts
Maybe you don’t have the knowledge about your topic to make a great product. That’s okay! Interview experts in your niche, record the interviews and transcribe them. Then take everything and organize it into a useful product.
Be sure to extensively interview your experts, getting specific action steps to use as the core of your product.
And be brave when seeking out experts. You’re going to be amazed at the people who say yes. That said, not everyone will agree to being interviewed, and that’s okay. You don’t need everyone, you just need some.
Doctors, professors, PhDs, business people, authors and all kinds of experts will agree to being interviewed. After all, it’s extremely flattering, and some of them want the publicity, too.
You can offer to share profits with your subject, or not. It’s up to you. Frankly, I think it’s a great idea to give them a percentage, or to offer to donate a percentage of profits to their favorite charity.
Hate Writing? Create an Audio or Video Course
There’s nothing that says you have to create a written product. In fact, some people prefer video or audio.
So, if you love to talk about your subject, go ahead and make an outline, and then start recording yourself. Have the recordings transcribed and you can use the transcriptions as a bonus to your main product.
    3: Blogging & Podcasting
  It might seem strange that we would lump two different things – blogging and podcasting – together.
But really, they are quite similar, and you might choose to do both simultaneously.
As a blogger, you’re writing blogposts or articles and posting them on your online blog on a regular basis for all to read.
As a podcaster, you are speaking, rather than writing. You’re making digital broadcasts available for downloading and listening.
Your blog or podcast can be on any topic in the whole wide world, but it’s best to narrow it down to something that can be turned into a profit for you.
Choose a niche that people are enthusiastic about and in which people also spend money. Here are some examples:

You might be wondering… how do you make money by blogging?
Typically, you’ll start by first creating your blog and adding useful content. We could write an entire book on content creation alone. Suffice it to say, you’re going to write about what your target audience wants to read.
Once you’ve begun making great content, it’s time to go find blog readers and get then to your blog.
Your job is not just to write blogposts, but also to promote your blog so that readers can find you. To do this, find out where your potential readers hang out online. What are they currently reading? What forums do they frequent? What podcasts do they listen to? Are they engaged in social networks?
Once you’ve found your potential readers, offer an enticement to get them to visit your blog and subscribe to your email list. A good report on a hot topic should do it.
When they get to your blog, build engagement and community. Respond to comments and do everything in your power to keep them coming back to your blog time and time again.
Again, we could write an entire book on how to grow your blog following, but for our purposes here we’ve got to keep it short. (Watch your email, I’ve got a great blogging resource to share with you.)
Next, you start making money from your blog through a variety of income streams.
You can offer affiliate products to your readers or sell your own products. You can sell advertising on your blog, such as Google Adsense.
You can even run events, such as big conferences or simply smaller meet-ups for your readers.
You can promote memberships to give you recurring income or create your own membership to offer to your readers.
You can promote other business and services, do consulting or public speaking… really, once you’ve got the audience, there are a myriad of ways to make money blogging, and you can pick and choose any combination you like.
Podcasting works much the same way. You’ll start out by recording your first couple of podcasts, and then you’ll start working on getting subscribers to your podcast.
Last, you’ll monetize your podcast by promoting your own products, other people’s products or whatever method you choose.

Blogs and bloggers number in the millions, with podcasts steadily gaining ground, which might seem discouraging with so much competition out there.

You’re Not the Right Coach for Everyone
And that’s okay. When you first speak to a potential client, if it doesn’t seem like a good fit, have the sense to not sign them up as a client. It will save you and them headaches down the road.

Life style businesses are all about letting you live how you want to live, designing your life as you choose, while running your own small company.
Done right, in a lifestyle business you have no 80-hour work weeks, no need for venture capital funding, no rented office spaces, no warehouses, and usually no employees.
This isn’t traditional entrepreneurship of working yourself ragged to build a company.
Rather than you living for the business, the business exists to take care of your needs while affording you the freedom to live the life you choose.

By writing reviews, you can come across as an impartial third-party person who is helping the reader to decide between different options.
Well written reviews are not only helpful, but they can also rank high in the search engines, earning you free traffic.
Get the products in your hand and use them before writing your reviews, so that you know what you’re talking about.
Write about what you like and dislike concerning the product. Talk about how you personally used it, what you used it for, and how well it did its job. And be sure to include your affiliate link for those who want to purchase it.
On your website, be sure to collect email addresses of your visitors. You can do this with a Hello Bar across the top of the page, or an Exit Popup when someone leaves the page, and of course by adding a sidebar widget to every page.

You have a product idea. Great! This is the place to start, but don’t get too attached to your idea yet.
Look for what products and services are already out there with the same idea.
Consider how you might improve upon them by delivering something that solves not only the customer’s problem, but also fills the gaps left by competing products.
Amazon is a great place to do this sort of research. You can find books on similar topics and see what the reviewers say.
Maybe there are topics missing from the books, or problems that aren’t properly addressed. Your information product can fill these gaps.
You can also check out Buzzsumo, which shows you what’s popular, based on social shares.
And finally, check on Youtube to find out what people want to know about this topic, what videos they’re watching, what their comments are and so forth.
Now that you’ve refined your idea, it’s time to validate it. After all, you don’t want to create a product just to find out that no one wants to buy it.
And the way you’re going to do that is to ask people to pay for it.
You’ll find these people by taking the URL from one of the posts on Buzzsumo and plug it into a tool called Topsy.
For example, maybe the Buzzsumo post was on how to build your own greenhouse. By plugging that link in, Topsy will show you a list of all the people who tweeted that greenhouse post’s link.
You then hit the reply button, and directly tell them about your idea. For example, @bobcushman Saw you like greenhouses, too

Would you buy a step by step video series that shows you exactly ow to build your own?
Make sure to ask if they will BUY your idea, not just if they like it. Saying they like something is not the same as spending money on it.
If they respond with a yes, give them the chance to buy it by replying with something like, “Awesome, here’s the link to buy: [LINK] Will create it if 5 people buy.
Once you cross your threshold and you’re sure that people will actually buy your product, then you can start to create it.
The actual process of creating of your product could take up an entire book of information – too much to include it all here. But if you’re interested, I’ll be recommending my favorite course on product creation in the near future.
  Information Product Creation Tips
Perfection is the Enemy
Your job is to create a product that is ‘good enough.’
For an information product, it’s important that you give useful, helpful information that your buyers can immediately put into use.
It’s not necessary to make it read like Shakespeare or have it formatted like a work of art.
Get your product good enough to ship, and then start selling it. If you wait until it’s perfect, you’ll never launch anything.
Don’t Go it Alone
Get affiliates on board as quickly as possible because they can reach far more potential buyers than you can.
Yes, you’ll pay them 50% commissions or better, but it’s totally worth it. Just think that for every sale they make, you’ll earn a percentage. But for sales never made, you earn nothing.
You can use tools such as Gumroad or Digital Product Delivery to easily set up affiliate programs and allow partners to collect commissions on their sales.
Stuck for Content? Interview Experts
Maybe you don’t have the knowledge about your topic to make a great product. That’s okay! Interview experts in your niche, record the interviews and transcribe them. Then take everything and organize it into a useful product.
Be sure to extensively interview your experts, getting specific action steps to use as the core of your product.
And be brave when seeking out experts. You’re going to be amazed at the people who say yes. That said, not everyone will agree to being interviewed, and that’s okay. You don’t need everyone, you just need some.
Doctors, professors, PhDs, business people, authors and all kinds of experts will agree to being interviewed. After all, it’s extremely flattering, and some of them want the publicity, too.
You can offer to share profits with your subject, or not. It’s up to you. Frankly, I think it’s a great idea to give them a percentage, or to offer to donate a percentage of profits to their favorite charity.
Hate Writing? Create an Audio or Video Course
There’s nothing that says you have to create a written product. In fact, some people prefer video or audio.
So, if you love to talk about your subject, go ahead and make an outline, and then start recording yourself. Have the recordings transcribed and you can use the transcriptions as a bonus to your main product.
    3: Blogging & Podcasting
  It might seem strange that we would lump two different things – blogging and podcasting – together.
But really, they are quite similar, and you might choose to do both simultaneously.
As a blogger, you’re writing blogposts or articles and posting them on your online blog on a regular basis for all to read.
As a podcaster, you are speaking, rather than writing. You’re making digital broadcasts available for downloading and listening.
Your blog or podcast can be on any topic in the whole wide world, but it’s best to narrow it down to something that can be turned into a profit for you.
Choose a niche that people are enthusiastic about and in which people also spend money. Here are some examples:

When they get to your blog, build engagement and community. Respond to comments and do everything in your power to keep them coming back to your blog time and time again.

Next, you start making money from your blog through a variety of income streams.

You can promote other business and services, do consulting or public speaking… really, once you’ve got the audience, there are a myriad of ways to make money blogging, and you can pick and choose any combination you like.
Podcasting works much the same way. You’ll start out by recording your first couple of podcasts, and then you’ll start working on getting subscribers to your podcast.
Last, you’ll monetize your podcast by promoting your own products, other people’s products or whatever method you choose.

It’s Hard to Separate Home from Work
If you’re working at home, you will be continually interrupted by the phone, family, and those dishes that need to be done.
You may find yourself putting work off to do other things, and then trying to catch up in the evenings when you should be spending time with the family.
Your best bet is to block of time each day when you do nothing but work. Think of it as ‘going into the office,’ much like if you had a regular job. This will greatly simplify things and lower your stress, as well as allowing you to get your work done.
Scheduling can be Tricky
You have no work on Monday, and Tuesday morning you have 3 or 4 clients who suddenly all need work done by Thursday. You’ll want to devise a system for dealing with this sort of thing. And you may need to sometimes say no if you simply can’t fit a job in.
You’re Probably Not Charging Enough
In the beginning you’ll want to take most any job at most any price just to get the experience.
But once you’ve done a few jobs and shown what you can do, it’s time to start raising your prices accordingly.
Consider how much value you are giving your customers, as well as how much of your own expertise and time you are investing in each job. Let your clients know that they do indeed get what they pay for, which is why you are not the cheapest.
Which brings up one last point… never market yourself or your skills on price alone. Being the cheapest is a sure way to the poor house. You will have to take on too much work, which means the quality will suffer, and you will lose repeat clients.
It truly is best for everyone if you learn to charge what you, your skills and your work are worth.
5: Coaching
This is an incredibly broad field, encompassing everything from teaching people how to get a specific outcome in a specific niche, to general life coaching and even executive coaching.
Let’s talk about Life Coaches vs Executive Coaches: Both use coaching techniques to motivate their clients to reach specific objectives, usually through learning, making life changes and instilling new, helpful habits.
Life coaches may help with work-related goals as well as goals in all areas of life, both personal and professional.
Executive coaches, however, specifically concentrate on career and employment related goals for their clients.
A life coach should at least have a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to help others reach their goals. Life coaches’ median salary for 2016 was $46,099, with a projected job growth of 8 to 13%.
But the fact is, life coaches who do well make considerably more – achieving six figures within 2 to 3 years. As with anything else, the variables are too great to predict how much you might make.
If you prefer to be an executive coach, your earning potential is higher. The median salary for 2016 was $95,000, with an expected growth of 13% over the next ten years. Executive coaches generally have Master’s degrees, but this is not a requirement.
Life coaches and executive coaches meet with their clients – either in person or via the internet or phone – and help their clients identify specific goals to reach and problems to resolve.
Coaches usually develop action plans specific for each client, designed to promote the success of their client. Plan on spending time with each client once per week or so, until the client feels they can go it alone. As a coach, your clients might be with you for several weeks or several months, and occasionally they will continue to call on you periodically for years to come.
As a life coach, you will likely work on a wide range of personal or workplace goals with your client.
Or as an executive coach, you will likely focus on working with managers and executives and other employees in their workplace environment.
To get started as a coach you will likely want to have a website showcasing your experience and success, as well as a way of reaching potential clients.

You only have so many hours in the day, which means you can only actively coach a certain number of clients.
But if you have information products of your own, or even affiliate products you can recommend, then you can offer these to your clients. It helps them to get results faster, and it increases your bottom line.
Realize that Not Everyone is Coachable
Just because they need you doesn’t mean you want to be their coach. When you run into someone who wants a new life but won’t listen to anything you say or put in the work to change, don’t waste your time.
They will eventually get mad at you because they’re not getting results and may even ask for a refund.
This is why it’s best to screen potential clients and let them know up front what you expect from them.
You’re not a fairy godmother – you don’t wave a wand and change their life. You’re a coach, and you expect them to put in the time and effort to make the changes they want and need.
Use Contracts
New coaches don’t see the need for contracts until one side or the other has a problem with expectations. You thought they wanted to lose 30 pounds, and they thought you were going to turn them into a movie star? Whoops. Clearly state rules and expectations within the contract at the very beginning so there are no misunderstandings.
Do Not Chase Clients
If they don’t show up for an appointment, don’t chase them down. They are still paying for the appointment (as specified in the contract) so a simple email or text is enough. Anything more and you look desperate. Your clients are adults – treat them as such.
Use Questionnaires
Create a questionnaire for potential new clients so you can understand their desires and they can get clear on what they want to accomplish.
Offer Both Private and Group Coaching
Not everyone can afford to hire you one-on-one, so offer group coaching in addition to private coaching. This increases your income as well as broadening your client-base. Some of those group coaching clients will eventually become private coaching clients as well.
You’re Not the Right Coach for Everyone
And that’s okay. When you first speak to a potential client, if it doesn’t seem like a good fit, have the sense to not sign them up as a client. It will save you and them headaches down the road.
Coach for Free to Get Experience
If you have no prior coaching experience, offer free coaching services to several people for free. Once they are achieving results, ask them to do a video testimonial for you to help you build your reputation and get paying clients.

Chatbot Ad Creation – a Step by Step Walkthrough
Not too long ago, Facebook announced that it was testing the possibility of making ads for FB Messenger.
This new format is now available to all advertisers.
These ads can be created using Business Manager, and you can send the user to two locations:
A Website – The user clicks on the Ad that appears on the Messenger screen, and it leads them to a website.
Messenger – The user clicks on the ad, and he is directed to a conversation in Messenger with your page.
I will explain in this report how to build these two types of ads. To get started, go to your business profile on Facebook.
  How to create a Messenger Ad leading to a website
  1 – Click on Top Menu and then Ads manager
  3 –  For ads in Messenger, you must always pick Traffic or Conversions as an objective.
4 –  Name the campaign and hit Continue:
5 –  Name the ad set (or use an existing one) and select the option Website
6 –  Create or choose your audience as you do on a regular Facebook ad;
7 –  In the Placements section, click Edit Placements and select Messengerè Home;
If you prefer, you can leave Automatic Placements, but I do not recommend it.
8 – Note that when picking the Messenger goal, Facebook “obliges” to also choose Facebook Feed. If you do not, you’ll see a notice like this:
9 –  Set your ad budget and hit continue.
10 – Name your ad and choose the format. Only Single Image or Carousel Format are allowed on Messenger ads.
11 –  Scroll down and type in the site URL, as pointed out in the screenshot below, Create the ad text and select the image (s) you will use in your composition.
  Recommendations: For single image Messenger ads, Facebook recommends 1.91: 1 image ratio, just like what we see in standard news feed ads. When using the  Carousel, the use of square images, that is, in a ratio of 1:1, is indicated.
Then click on Confirm Button, so Facebook starts to advertise your business.
Building a Messenger Ad that leads to your FB Page Messenger.
If you are sending the user to Fan Page Messenger, the process is pretty much the same.
The only difference is that, at the Ad Set level, when it’s time choose where to drive the traffic (refer to Step #5), you must pick the option Messenger.
Keep filling up everything, as usual, set your Audience, Placements, Budget and hit Continue.
On the Ad Setup level, you got to choose your creative, type in your copy as you usually do on a regular Ad.
Then at the bottom, you´ll find the most significant difference from a regular Ad, the messenger setup section as per below.
Click on Edit so you can preview your content or edit the Messenger conversation text.
Here you can choose:
A Text Greeting, which will appear at the top and then some pre-written questions that works like suggestions of what your users might ask after clicking your Ad.
In fact, when users click on your Ad and land on your FB Page Messenger, they can type anything they want, so it´s a good start suggests them what to ask so that you can drive the conversation smoothly.
  If you want, you can preview your ad directly in Messenger by clicking Preview in Messenger.
When you do this, a preview appears on Messenger this way:
Done! Your ad is ready!
Remember that on this last option, the user will view your ad, click on it and then open a conversation in the FB Page Messenger!
From there, you can send a message or forward them to a website.
Some notes about this ad format
Unfortunately, it also forces you to place the Ad in the Facebook Feed, which can generate some less favorable results in your ad, because when you create it for Messenger, it is limited regarding characters which will also be limited in the Feed.
Messenger Ads are a new format, so CPM should be much lower than average, just like it happened when the ads in the Instagram stories became available.

You can also link your ad with any bots you have, to continue the conversation.
As you can see, it’s quite simple to create this new ad format.

12 Things Discovered from Starting Two 7-Figure Lifestyle Businesses
Steve Chou of “My Wife Quit Her Job” fame has made a list of 12 things he learned while starting not just one, but two different 7 figure lifestyle businesses from scratch.
He created the businesses so that his wife could quit her job to stay home with the children, and because he wanted to spend plenty of time with his family.
That tells you right there that Steve does not believe in working 80 hour weeks, but instead creates businesses that conform to the lifestyle he seeks.
First, he started an online store that made 100K in profit the first year and has been growing ever since, now generating 7 figures per year.
Next, he started a blog that became highly profitable in its third year, and now generates over a million dollars a year on its own.
Here’s what Steve learned on his journey of lifestyle success…
1: Find out what you’re good at, and focus on that
Be hyper focused on one thing and be the best at it. Steve focused his wedding linens store on handkerchiefs and became the largest seller of hankies on the internet.
Then with his blog, he positioned himself as an ecommerce entrepreneur because there were few blogs out there that wrote about running a real online shop.
He recommends finding the thing you have a shot at being the best at, to avoid blending with the rest of the crowd.
2: Work with People Who You Love and Who Challenge You
While Steve loves working with his wife, he’s also the first to admit that working with a spouse might not be right for everyone.
But if you can find someone with a complementary skill set who pushes you harder than you’ll push yourself, having this person will keep you motivated and moving forward.
3: Make Decisions and Execute
When you have no clue as to what to do, it’s really easy to sit on the sidelines until you choose a path. But the problem is you’ll never know which path is right until you pick something and go for it.
If you’re feeling indecisive, take action anyway. By getting off your butt, you begin to accumulate valuable data that you can use to make adjustments in what you do next.
When Steve decided to launch an online course, he did nothing for six months because he didn’t know where to start. Then one day he launched the course with ZERO content, preselling the class to 35 students at $299 each.
Now he was forced to take action and create the course content. This class has since generated millions of dollars in revenue.
4: Build and Own as Much as You Can
While many would-be entrepreneurs take shortcuts and rely on third party services to run their websites, this limits flexibility and puts your business potentially at the mercy of someone else.
He explains that building your own site may increase your time to market, but in the long run it’s worth it.
Good examples are Etsy and Ebay. By relying on a third party for their primary sales channel, sellers are at the mercy of these companies when they drastically increase prices or change ranking algorithms.
That’s why he recommends owning your own website, so you’re not at the mercy of someone else.
5: Understand the Underlying Principles of What You Are Outsourcing
Have you known someone who outsourced the creation of their WordPress website for a few thousand dollars? And then paid more money every time they needed to make a change or update to their site?
This is why it’s important that you have an understanding of what is involved in a job you outsource.
Yes, it’s absolutely terrific to hire others to do the work you don’t want to do. But you do need a basic understanding of what’s involved, so that you don’t get taken advantage of.
6: Establish a Routine and Stick with It
A great way to burn yourself out before you barely get started is to pull several all-nighters in a row. Instead, establish a set routine that allows you to gradually and steadily make progress over time.
Steve and his wife devoted Sunday mornings and various evenings to their first business. And their only objective each time was to accomplish one thing per day.
By creating a priority list and checking off goals, they made consistent progress and their shop was soon ready to launch.
7: Treat Your Customers Like Royalty
If you treat a customer well, they return the favor and tell their friends about your business.
But if you treat a customer poorly, you lose a lot more than just that single customer.
Did you know that the average business doesn’t hear from 96% of unhappy clients?
Or that every dissatisfied customer will, on average, tell at least 9 other people?
This means for every customer complaint you get, there could be 24 more customers who are unhappy but didn’t say anything.
And if those 24 customers tell 216 more people about their negative experience with your business, you’ve got a problem.
But on the flip side, up to 70% of customers will do business again if their complaint is resolved, and up to 95% will do business again if the problem is resolved quickly.
That’s why you want to treat your customers like royalty and never underestimate word of mouth and social media.
8: Get Some Exercise
When Steve and his wife were working to start their first business, Steve stopped exercising.
But then he noticed he felt listless from a lack of energy, and he’d lose focus easily.
Once he went back to lifting weights, running and playing sports, he was far more productive in his business.
9: Just Ship It
You can spend weeks (months or years) tweaking your website, perfecting your product, playing with your sales funnel… and the whole thing turns out to be crap anyway.
Or… you can get it DONE and ‘ship it.’ See what’s working, what’s not working, and make adjustments as you go.
As Steve says, if you are making too many minor tweaks, or if you’re second guessing yourself (for the 47th time) then you are likely stalling your business on purpose because you are afraid to launch.
Just. Ship. It.
10: Don’t be TOO Cheap
It’s good to be frugal… to a point.
But let’s say there’s a task you’re doing that takes you 20 minutes a day, or 2 ½ hours per week. There is a software that will do the task for you, but you’re frugal and don’t want to pay the $20 a month for the software.
Do you realize that when you factor the money saved versus the hours you spend on this task, you are basically ‘earning’ $2 an HOUR??
Is that all you’re worth? Or could you perhaps use those 10 hours a month to make a LOT more than 20 lousy bucks?
Think about this the next time you decide to ‘save’ money by doing a task manually that software can do for you.
In fact, think about this before you do anything. For example, let’s say you need some work done. To hire an outsourcer to do the work for you is going to cost $250. Ouch, right?
But this is something that you are NOT GOOD AT. You will need to LEARN how to do it, and then you’ll need to practice, and then you’ll need to work out the bugs or problems that you caused because you didn’t know what you were doing.
You spend perhaps 10 hours or 100 hours (depends on what it is and how bad you are at it) to get this task done.
Gee. Maybe the $300 is actually pretty darn cheap. Something to consider the next time a much-needed purchase is ‘too expensive.’
11: Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously
You’re starting and running an internet business… not overthrowing a regime or blasting off to Mars.
Have fun. Take time out and enjoy the process. Marvel at how much you’re learning. Be thankful that you are doing something 90% of other people don’t even dare dream.
And when you have your first big success, or your hundredth big success, don’t let it go to your head. The moment you do, you’re headed for a fall, pun intended.
No one likes a smug, self-centered know-it-all, especially your customers. But everyone likes a regular “joe” or “jane” who doesn’t take him or herself too seriously.
And remember to poke fun at yourself every chance you get – your customers will love you for being real, rather than pretending to be something you’re not.
12: Be Inspired
Hang out with the right people to get inspired. Read stories of how other entrepreneurs built their businesses. Find like-minded people and start a mastermind, or a support group, or a combination of the two.
The best way to stay motivated is to be among those who inspire you to push yourself beyond your comfort zone.
Because yes, you can!

As a marketer, your objective is to get your customer’s attention, hold it, and then make the sale.
The problem is, all you have in your arsenal to accomplish all of this is words. Whether you’re writing sales copy, recording a video or even speaking to a live audience at a conference, it’s the words you use that will make or break your conversion rate.
Let me give you an example: You want people to opt in to your mailing list. On your button, you place a call to action. You could use, “Click here,” or “Sign up” or “Join us.”

Case Study: $12,000 a Month Giving Almost Everything Away
This is a great approach for someone who is new in their niche and wants to build a reputation and list while still making really good money.
I met this guy who is fairly new to the internet marketing realm. He’s no expert or guru and yet he’s making about $12,000 a month from the start.
He realized that it’s a lot easier to sell a $1,000 product one time than to sell a $10 product 100 times. For one thing, the customer service for one person versus 100 people is like night and day. For another thing, it’s so easy to give stuff away rather than sell it. He’s sort of sneaking under people’s radar with this method.
He runs promotions, free WSO’s, advertises on Facebook, has a Facebook Group and so forth. And on all of these platforms, he’s giving away his stuff.
People opt in to his list just like you would expect, and then they’re presented with an upsell, again just like you would expect. Except… here’s where it’s different – he even gives away his upsell. I know, how crazy is that? Then he gives his list tons of stuff for free, too.
His subscribers open his emails (his open rate is INSANE) because they know he’s always giving them awesome content FOR FREE. This builds trust like you would not believe. His list isn’t all that big yet, but it doesn’t matter because his subscribers LOVE him.
Then once a month he opens a limited number of slots to work directly with him on a one-to-one basis at different levels. He offers email coaching, personal coaching over Skype once a week, and even a higher level of coaching.
His prices run from about $250 to $3,000, depending on the package. Like I said, this guy is new to the internet marketing realm – he just started about a year ago now. Yet he’s bringing in about $12,000 a month with this model. He never promotes affiliate products, only his own stuff. And he gives away everything but the expensive products. What a great business model!

You might even limit the number of members you take since that will make it seem much more exclusive and valuable. For content you’re going to do one or more of the following: – Write your own content – Hire outsourcers to write the content for you – Get guests to write your content for free – Use high-quality PLR. Not junk, just the good stuff Whatever content you use, be sure to break it down into brief daily posts. All you need is short snippets of content because the members will do the rest of the work for you. They’ll ask questions, respond to questions, give opinions and so forth. Your group will take on a life of its own, which is terrific. You want to encourage as much interaction as possible to keep people coming back time and time again. So now the big question is… How do you monetize this?
There are three ways: First, promote your own products. You’ve got to do this in a very soft, non-pushy way. Done right, you’ll make plenty of sales without turning anyone off. For example, you might answer someone’s question, then refer them to your product for even more info. Second, promote other people’s products (affiliate products) using the same method. Third, if you don’t want to sell products or you want to make even more money, you can sell advertising on the timeline. If you think about it, you’ve got a highly targeted group of people who are super focused on this one area of interest. Basically, you have a terrific prospect list of active, interested people.
Whether you are selling your own products, affiliate products or advertising, you’re going to make money. Let’s talk more about getting advertisers. These advertisers would LOVE to convert your members to their deal. Limit your ads to just one per day, and call them the “Sponsor of the Day.” Of course, advertisers can book as many days as they like. Post the ad in the morning and keep it as the pinned post for the rest of the day. Charge maybe $50 to display the ad for a day, which compares favorably to solo ads. If you sell all 30 days of the month, you’ve made $1500. Only allow that one ad per day, and don’t let your members post affiliate links.
How do you find advertisers? Many times your best source will be from within the group itself. You can also let your email list know about the opportunity, and you can offer your ad slots to anyone who is in your niche and has a product to sell. I recommend starting one group and learning the in’s and out’s of running this type of business. You’ll need to invest perhaps 15 minutes each morning for adding content and answering questions, and then check back 3 or 4 times during the day. Once you get a good feel for what you’re doing, expand to related niches and even branch out to completely unrelated niches, too. And of course, you can outsource the entire process. While you’re not going to make a fortune from just one group, several groups can yield you a full-time income.
