APRIL 26th, 2012 SONG OF THE DAY - THROWBACK THURSDAY
Sublime is one of the greatest bands of all time in my opinion. The amount of times I sang their songs while walking down the railroad tracks in high school is countless. Back in 1996, they released this song, April 29h, 1992, about the riots in Los Angeles on their self-titled album. In the song Bradley sings April 26th, 1992 (twenty years ago today), but the riots actually happened on April 29th. Sublime allegedly made a mistake with the lyrics, but opted against changing them because they liked the take. The more you know.

Fitz. is an indie folk band from the U.K. led by frontman Sam Fitzpatrick. This song, Maps, is their newest single and can be downloaded from iTunes. I don't know much about the band, but I definitely dig the sound. You can get their last EP, Bare Bones, for free at their website as well.

APRIL 12th, 2012 SONG OF THE DAY
River City Extension is an indie rock band from my home state of New Jersey. They are known for their energetic live performances, which I have unfortunately not been to yet. This song is one of my favorites and is off their first album. Their second album, Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Your Anger, will be coming out on June 5th. You can preview a few tracks at their Soundcloud and listen to some of their older tracks there as well. I definitely recommend you do so.

mewithoutYou is an experimental rock band from Philadelphia who just released this single, February, 1878. They have been around since about 2000, but I just picked up on them recently. Their sound is really interesting and parts even remind me of one of my favorite bands, Brand New. If you like this track, keep an eye out for their new album, Ten Stories, coming out on May 22nd.

Gary Clark Jr. is a blues guitarist and singer from Austin, Texas who has been making a lot of noise recently in the music world. If you have not heard of this man yet, pay attention because I'm sure we will be hearing a lot more of him. He has already been acclaimed as "the savior of blues" and has played alongside BB King, Mick Jagger, Jeff Beck, and Buddy Guy. This song, Bright Lights, is also the name of his latest EP. Check it out.

Vladimar is an Icelandic indie rock band I recently heard on KEXP. I suppose I'm somewhat of a sucker for Icelandic music for whatever reason. The language just sounds so beautiful. I don't really have much else to say because all the information I can find on them is in, well, Icelandic. Check out some of their other live performances on KEXP, though, if you do like it. They're all wonderful.

Blitzen Trapper is an alt-country band based out of Portland, Oregon. They have a wonderfully woodsy sound to them and just released an album called American Goldwing. This song, Love the Way You Walk Away, is their first single off that album. If you like this song, I would definitely check out their previous albums, especially 2008's Furr.

Fanfarlo is a London-based indie folk band who recently released their sophomore album, Rooms Filled With Light. This song, The Walls Are Coming Down, is off their first album, Reservoir, which is an excellent record. I have not picked up their newest album yet, but I definitely plan on doing so soon and I suggest you do the same.

Devil Makes Three is an awesome old-timey, folk-punk band from Santa Cruz, California. I had the pleasure of seeing them in Hoboken, NJ last year and they were phenomenal live. They are made up of just an acoustic guitarist, tenor banjo player and upright bassist. This song, Shades, makes for a great spring drinking song. The lead singer, Pete Bernhard, also does some fantastic solo stuff.

First Aid Kit is a Swedish folk duo comprised of two sisters who are only 19 and 22. What blows my mind is that this video was recorded three years ago. They have got some damn good chops for 16 and 19 years old. Their newest single, The Lion's Roar, is definitely worth a listen as well.

Man Man is a Philadelphia based experimental rock band that is very well known for their ridiculous live performances. They can at times be a bit odd, but they definitely have a lot of energy. This song, Van Helsing Boombox, is one of my favorites of theirs, but really the whole Six Demon Bag album is great.

MARCH 31st, 2012 SONG OF THE DAY
Akron/Family is an experimental rock/freak folk band that I discovered on reddit recently. They have a really interesting sound, which seems to vary a lot from song to song. They actually remind me a lot of Megafaun, who are a great psychedelic folk band from North Carolina. You can check out some more of Akron/Family's songs on their vimeo page.

The Polyphonic Spree is a symphonic pop rock band from Dallas, Texas. I just came across these guys recently and I was intrigued by the big band appeal they had going on. The band is led by frontman Tim DeLaughter and has twenty other members, comprised of everything from a choir to a piccolo player. This song is their newest single and the video is the winner of their video contest.

MARCH 29th, 2012 SONG OF THE DAY - THROWBACK THURSDAY
Sam Cooke is an absolute legend and an artist who makes my list of favorite singers of all time. Soul and R&B music would not exist today if it were not for this man's amazing talent. He tragically died at only 33 years old, but his music lives on. This is probably my favorite song of his, but he has countless timeless tracks. Enjoy your Throwback Thursday Song of the Day.

The SteelDrivers are a fantastic Bluegrass band from Nashville who I've been wanting to see for some time now. Both of their albums are solid and have some really fantastic tracks. This song, Where Rainbows Never Die, got the band a Grammy nomination in 2010. You can catch them this summer at the amazing Greyfox Bluegrass Festival in Oak Hill, NY from July 19-22nd.

MARCH 27th, 2012 SONG OF THE DAY
Miike Snow is Swedish indie pop band with an American singer. They have been around since 2007 and frontman Andrew Wyatt has been involved with the electronic scene as a writer and producer for a very long time. Their new album, Happy to You, has some really great tracks, such as this one, The Devil's Work. I definitely recommend picking up the record if you enjoy this tune.
