This week on The Native Truth, Healani Sonoda-Pale discusses support for Mauna Kea on Oahu, the Waimanalo protests, and the Aloha Aina march. Then Lamaku Mikahala Roy offers a Hoailona Report about a whale stranding, and in the Kupuna Talk-Story, Helene Malulani Kelly talks about how the Ku’e Petitions led her to understand that she is not American. And, in honor of Haunani-Kay Trask’s 70th birthday, we end the show with a speech she gave in 1982 about Aloha Aina and stopping the bombing of Kahoolawe.
The 3 stories in the Native News segment include an update on requests at the United Nation to investigate the human rights abuses in West Papua; extinguished aboriginal title in Queensland, Australia to make way for a coal mine; and a Native American protest at the University of Southern California calling for removal of an exhibit honoring movie legend, John Wayne, citing his racist remarks about Indians and black people.
