Alex frowned and shook her head. "But there may not be enough evidence to support it in the fossil record even if I find a new place to look. What do I do then? My dream job got taken because genetic power made people corrupt and now I'm doing this because my degree is so specialized. I'm... I don't..." she stated, looking down at her hands that were shaking. "My mind stops me from doing so much because of a fear of failure."
The Doctor landed at Alex's and walked out of the TARDIS in a pair of swim trunks. It was early June and the Doctor had planned on taking her to the beach. "Are you ready for a beach vacation?" he asked her.
Alex jumped a bit when he showed up and then looked him over. Hearing his question, she simply answered "No," before turning back to her paperwork. Beaches weren't her thing and water definitely wasn't.

Alex led him to the area, enjoying the views as she went. It made her feel a bit homesick since these views weren't what she saw daily anymore. She was so out of nature now being in DC. Moving to the canyon, she pointed towards it. "Do you like it around here?" she asked, looking over at the Doctor.
"Did I miss it? Please tell me I didn't miss your birthday. I'd feel awful! I made you a special cupcake and everything..."
"This is a time machine, it's never too late," he told her, "Thank you very much."

Alex watched him and narrowed her eyes. "You told me we were coming back here to look for costumes. Then you told me there were costumes in the TARDIS. So we came here just to get a feel for the era for costumes," she stated. "The party is in the 3000's. If there's something else going on, then just tell me. I don't like being pulled around and lied to, and I feel lied to right now. So. What's going on, truly? Tell me or I'm going back to the TARDIS, changing back into my clothes, and staying there. I was excited! I was happy to celebrate Halloween! But this is not... this is not sparking joy."
"Hello Alex," the Doctor smiled as he walked out of the TARDIS, offering her a hug. "Do you have any plans for Halloween?" he asked her, "Because I just found out about a costume party in the year 3047. It's supposed to be one of the best, most fun and also scariest Halloween costume parties of all time."
She'd just been putting the finishing touches on her decorations around her place. There was supposed to be a party at her job, but she still didn't know what to wear. So when someone showed up, she jumped and squeaked.
"Ah! Really? No notice?" She asked. "As for scary things... I don't really do them. But I don't even know if that's a good thing and I don't know what to wear."

Alex took a few deep breaths and worked to calm down. How did this keep happening? She slowly made her way through the trees and found the pack of carnivores. She whistled sharply and got their attention, drawing them back away from the vessel.
If she could get dinosaurs away from this thing, maybe they'd leave.

“It’s very dangerous. There are many, many carnivores in the center of the island from what the last reports say,” she answered. “No one has really set foot there since like… The late 1990’s or something.”
“Well it’s probably our only bet to find out more,” he told her, “I assume you’ve never been there?”

The woman sighed and looked down at her desk. "I'm scared of it," she admitted after a few moments of silence. "I'm scared of having to defend my findings when there isn't enough to go on in the fossil record. What am I'm going to do when it gets called into question? I can't say that I traveled through time. I just... I'm scared of failing again."

Alex shrugged and nudged her horse off to a different trail. "It's near the canyon... And kind of in it," she admitted. "There are two other tribes there."
"Did I miss it? Please tell me I didn't miss your birthday. I'd feel awful! I made you a special cupcake and everything..."

Alex arched an eyebrow and stopped walking. "We were supposed to be going to a party in the future. That's what you said. Unless this is the future but you said it was the past," she stated, confused by everything. "It doesn't make sense!"
"Hello Alex," the Doctor smiled as he walked out of the TARDIS, offering her a hug. "Do you have any plans for Halloween?" he asked her, "Because I just found out about a costume party in the year 3047. Alex had already run off and was in a place that she could call safe. She knew the island very well and she had lost the crazy aliens it seemed. Putting her hands on her knees, she took a moment to catch her breath from the panic that was creeping up.
Honestly she felt a little sad she'd left the Doctor. But he brought the aliens, he could deal with them. This was above her pay grade and she didn't know what to do.

Alex smiled at that and nodded. "I'll keep that in mind. But at the same time, maybe I'll just stay curious. I don't want to ruin my research and everything," she admitted. If her research was wrong, it would be heartbreaking, but then she might be able to change it around and get the right answer. Maybe... "So... Back to my time?"

"I feel like you have something else you want to do or that you're looking for," she admitted, looking up at him. "As much as I would like to see that and to get proof for my theories and thesis and everything that I could, I don't want to use you like that. You have important things to do and those things are not them. Doctor... If you had asked me to go mountain climbing, hiking in the woods, or sand-surfing in the desert I would join you. But I don't do water, not even baths. You deserve to have fun and not have it be limited by me and my weird quirks."
Alex smiled a bit at him and then sighed. "Go have fun, Doctor. You need it. I don't want you burning out from not relaxing. The only burning you should be doing is from the sun if you don't use sunscreen."

Alex smiled and urged her horse forward, enjoying the feeling of being back on horseback. "C'mon. I'll take you to see some interesting places. Maybe you'll find some cool stuff there," she called back to him, grinning. "Maybe it's even got some of your tech you're always looking for. We don't really go near it thanks to the odd feelings we get from it."
"Did I miss it? Please tell me I didn't miss your birthday. I'd feel awful! I made you a special cupcake and everything..."

She followed where he led and had the sinking feeling they weren't going to end up at the party. It bummed her out and she frowned a bit, but she still went where he did. "So. What are we looking for?"

Alex was not a fan of being tackled by anything and it immediately made her panic. She froze for a moment and then opened her eyes and as soon as he told her to run, she did. She knew the island well and ran through a lot of it when she needed the exercise to release frustration. She just wasn't sure where to go without possibly endangering other people.
Of course she attracted the crazy, dangerous people. She was one of them too, technically.

"Well, I do have a job to get back to that I very much enjoy," she replied. "Thank you for a wonderful memory. And I hope you had fun too. I'll see you around. I doubt I could be much help on anything you do, but if there's ever anything you think I might be able to assist with, please let me know."

Don’t put too much Weight on RP.
Take a break. RP should not dictate your life. If you find it dictating your mental health, it’s likely a time to take a step back. RP is a hobby. It can be frustrating if people aren’t replying to memes/starters/etc. But remember timezones are a thing, sometimes other people aren’t in the best mental state themselves, sometimes people are too busy IRL to watch the dash, sometimes they have writer’s block. There will be other days. There will be other interactions. People still care about you and your muse(s). Try again later, there is no shame in reblogging stuff from yourself.  But do not guilt people into interacting with you.
At the end of the day RP is a hobby. We’re here to have fun. Don’t let it dictate everything.

The woman tilted her head slightly as she thought about things and sighed. There was something off about the woman who was becoming her friend, but she couldn't place it. She didn't know why she was suspicious of the woman, other than the fact it was after hours and they weren't supposed to have park visitors out here. Something wasn't adding up.
Being one of the park's veterinarians, she was almost always on call. So when some workers were hearing odd sounds coming from the mosasaur arena, she picked up her phone and brought up some video feed. The mosasaur was up at the edge of the aquarium... and pulled someone in! She started recording on her phone thanks to the screen recording option and, gasped when she saw something happen.
Scales. And a fin that weren't the aquatic reptile's made her panic slightly. No. No that couldn't be possible. Not at all. As she watched, she noticed the mosasaur wasn't eating the... mermaid. It was so odd to even think that word. But then she was asked to report in and she quickly gave the report that the mosasaur was lonely and calling for friends. Animal behavior is hard at times and this was going to be hard to explain if she ever needed to. Seeing that everything was fine, she quit recording and sent it to Owen with a message.
[Text: Husband] Owen... you need to see this. And... I don't know what to do. Act normal?
[Text: Husband] We'll be there soon...ish?
thenavajovalleyhandler‌:
Alex nodded and held the hand of the woman in front of her. It was cooler than hers and that was concerning. It was a warm temperature in the air and the humidity kept it warmer. So she was cool to the touch… something else must be at play. Owen said she was different… so maybe that was why?
“We promise we won’t keep you longer than you want,” She assured. “I don’t like being caged either. I love to run through the trees and fields. So we won’t do the same to you. But we’re your best bet at staying safe, Owen is right about that.” Alex gently pulled the woman from the shadows to lead her to the Jeep the handler had been at earlier. “What would you like to eat? We have a variety of things. Fish, chicken, beef, vegetables, pork, breakfast for dinner… there’s a lot.”
