It would be so great to not be insecure anymore....
I always thought that there was something intrinsically wrong with me. Sometimes, it felt like everything was wrong with me, but now I’m realizing that it’s not me, but instead, my attitude. I’ve been surrounded by very strong and confident people and I love seeing people grow into their skins and embrace who they are and what they have to offer. I really wish I had that ability though. I can’t even imagine what a confident version of myself would look like. I really wish I could though. I know I’m making small steps towards that end image but I’m still very far away from it and it makes me sad seeing all the work I have left.

those little things on ur nose aren’t blackheads, don’t try and get rid of them they’re sebaceous filaments and they’re permanent and literally everyone has them
every girl has that little pouch of fat on her lower tummy, despite what magazines try n show u, you have important organs there that need to be protected don’t try and get rid of ur pouch
ur body is smarter than u think and it knows what to do when u eat more than normal. one bad day, or even week, of eating poorly isn’t gonna ruin anything at all I pinky promise
if u think u look good up until u try taking a selfie, it’s not ur fault - our faces are asymmetrical and when u see ur face flipped it will look unnatural to u, since u don’t see it that way when u look in the mirror. to everyone else it looks perfectly fine
no one’s stomach looks the same at 8pm as it does at 8am. no one has a chiseled six pack after a day of eating, not even the super fit people u see on tumblr, because ur stomach naturally expands after eating and expecting to have a flat tummy before bed is very unrealistic
no one notices if the bags under ur eyes are bad today. no one pays attention to the bump in ur nose or the zit on ur chin or the piece of hair that u missed when u were straightening. literally no one notices these things except you so stop worrying about it ur gonna be fine

Never neglect yourself for even a second. I hope you find this helpful. There should be something for everyone here.
Relaxation
a hot bath with salts and candles
gentle stretching
closing your eyes and being quiet for a few minutes
chamomile or peppermint or jasmine tea
Social
call a close friend & chat about nothing in particular
write a letter or postcard (I’m talking snail mail)
write that email you’ve been putting off
unplug yourself from social media for a bit
go out for coffee or tea with a pal
Organization
make a to-do list for when you’re feeling better
set priorities so as not to overwhelm yourself

if applicable, make sure you take your meds. always.
curb the negative self talk as much as possible

just share what you’re going through with someone, anyone
Schoolwork
you will feel better if you get at least one thing done, just a small thing
make a list of all the assignments you have to do then put it out of sight for a while
call a friend or contact a classmate if you need help (or your teacher/professor)
get some new stationery, even just one pen to make you smile
refresh your organizational system, to start over
Food
bake something for yourself or someone you know’s favorite dessert
bite into a crisp apple
avoid mindless snacking so you don’t regret it later
but you can indulge a little in your favorites

Drink

water infused with lemon or cucumber

never underestimate a big cold glass of water
avoid alcohol because it is a depressant
Entertainment
put on a favorite (preferably funny) movie or show

De-clutter
delete apps you no longer use
organize your digital files
donate clothes that don’t fit or you haven’t worn in 6 months
go through your belongings and ask if something really brings you joy

Environment
if you have them, diffuse some essential oils (lavender and chamomile)
get into a fresh headspace by changing your locale (the library, a coffee shop, etc)

spruce up your space with some low-maintenance plant friends (succulents)
Cleaning

change your sheets (they will feel crisp and awesome when you go to bed)

The 7 Step Process To Manifesting Your Dreams
1. Intention - decide what you want. The first step is to look within and understand what we’re seeking and why. Once we know what we’re seeking we can make it the central focus of our lives - our intention. If peace of mind is our intention we will be able to discern what does & does not align with this and act accordingly.
2. Visualisation - build a clear picture of what it looks like. Adding details to the picture in our heads is a great way to aid the manifestation process. We can also use visualisation exercises to add finer details - what are the smells, tastes, sounds and sights associated with the life we seek to create? This will make it seem more realistic than just a far away dream that may never come to be.
3. Alignment - match your thoughts & beliefs to the goal. The first step to achieving anything is believing that it can be done - we need to become aware of any limiting beliefs or thought patterns that may be mentally or physically blocking that which we’re trying to manifest.

4. Actions - take action every single day. If the dream is to have a fit, healthy and functioning body we must make sure that our daily actions match the goal. We need to eat, sleep and exercise in a way that will help the manifestation process, when our actions and thoughts are aligned we become unstoppable.
5. Focus - block out the distractions. Anything that doesn’t exist in the dream life must be removed today and done so unapologetically. Whether that’s negative people, dysfunctional behaviour or negative ways of thinking - we need to prioritise our dreams if we want them to become reality.
6. Gratitude - be thankful for what you already have. When we become grateful for the good things in our lives we are moving into the abundance mindset, this is essential for manifestations because we attract what we are. If we start “wanting” instead of being thankful for having we begin to embody the scarcity mindset and this attracts more scarcity.
7. Manifestation - watch out for the signs. When we change our thoughts and actions to align with our dreams we will notice our environments changing. People, places and things we used to resonate with will naturally filter out to make room for what we are attracting. We cannot embrace the new whilst still holding on to the old.
We attract what we are, not what we want.

Death and taxes

Henry vomited in his sleep at 1:30am. He came upstairs crying to tell us. After Michael and I cleaned up his bed and threw his comforter and his security blanket into the washer, wiped the chunks of the carrots he ate eight hours ago off of the wall behind his bed, and moved him to another bed, I checked my phone to see the status of the tax bill.
I have been praying all year for God to soften my heart. I’ve asked Him over and over again to take away the bitterness and the anger. And with each health care victory, I felt a little ease. But tonight - tonight, all that bitterness and anger has come rushing back.
Pro-lifers, check your Bible. Your vote just put money into the hands of the rich at the expense of the poor. Your vote just took health care away from 13 million people. Your vote just put Medicaid on the chopping block, risking the lives of millions of children, low-income families, and people with disabilities all across the country.
In addition to that, we are 30 days without CHIP funding. The Republican party thought giving tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy was a higher priority than giving health care to CHILDREN.
I ask you, “What would Jesus do?”
You can call your anti-poor, anti-sick, anti-child ideals, “pro-life.” You can pretend to hide your disgust for the poor and your discrimination of the sick and your homophobia and your racism behind your religion. But you can’t hide from us.
We see you.
You OWN this. This is yours. Every single one of you who voted Republican in 2016. You did this. All the people who are about to suffer when the budget has to cut LIHEAP and education and Medicaid and Medicare to pay for this tax plan and people weep for their families, it will be your fault.
We believe in the power of prayer in my home. We pray daily, and it gives us strength to get through the day. But we also believe in helping the less fortunate through means other than prayer. We believe in fighting for those who cannot fight for themselves. We believe that our actions are just as important as our prayers.
In a few weeks, I’ll post a photo of Henry from his hospital bed, before the procedure he will be having. If you voted for Donald Trump, do me a favor: Don’t send Henry your thoughts and prayers. They won’t mean much coming from anyone who voted to take his health care away. They won’t mean anything coming from anyone who doesn’t really care if he lives or dies.
If you voted for Donald Trump, if you support a Congress that puts the wants of the wealthy over the needs of the sick, there is no need to send your thoughts and prayers to Henry. You should probably save those thoughts and prayers for your own soul.
You’re going to need them.

Yesterday my dad told me something that I think maybe more people need to hear.
You’re allowed to just do things for fun.
He told me that in this modern society, especially the United States, we seem to have this attitude that we shouldn’t do something unless we’re aiming to be the best at it. If we can’t sing like Beyonce or Frank Sinatra or something there’s no point to singing. If we can’t make the next big breakthrough there’s no point in looking into mechanics and engineering.
But, he tells me, it took him a long time to figure out that life doesn’t have to be a race. If you want to take up the piano when you’re a teenager or later you’re not going to master it. You’re not going to be able to play to huge concert halls, but that also shouldn’t stop you. You can study a language out of curiosity and then drop the ball if you want. You can just get okay at something or even be terrible at it. You can drop it for days or years and then pick it up again and it doesn’t have to be a shameful thing.
I’m really glad he told me that because today I opened my sketchpad for the first time in months and just started drawing. And it looks terrible. But I don’t care. I don’t have the talent or patience or spacial awareness to get anywhere near good at drawing, but it’s fun. It helps me focus my mind and nobody has to see it.
And because of what he told me, I’m thinking maybe someday soon I will take up the bass guitar. And I won’t worry about how well I do, or how fast I learn, or that I haven’t played an instrument since sixth grade, or that I don’t have that much time to practice. I’m just gonna enjoy the experience. Maybe I’ll try swing dancing again and take a class because I’m not the best dancer but damn if it isn’t fun.
Yeah, you don’t have to be good at things. It’s not a requirement. Maybe that seems obvious but it had never occurred to me before. You’re allowed to just enjoy what you’re doing. For me, that feels like a life changing revelation. I don’t have to be good at something to like it. I don’t have to put 100% effort into everything I do. It’s kind of amazing.

A reminder that turning in assignments for partial credit is better than not turning them in at all. It is. Even if you think you’ve done a bad job and are ashamed of your work, or it’s way overdue, you take whatever you can get. Partial credit dramatically improves your grade over a zero, and I’m always astounded by how often even the smartest kids don’t really comprehend that. 60% is worlds better than 0%. Even 10% is going to help you. Letter grades are misleading and are not created equal. “F"s are mathematically valuable. Turn that late assignment in.

the time you take being jealous of other people’s success is the time you could be using to build your own
you’re never going to “feel like it”
doing and practicing now is better than waiting for the perfect moment
eliminate people with toxic habits from your life
you are in control. Everything you’ve done up to this moment led you here. Therefore, your future is determined by what you do now.
everything is as it should be and only later in life you can connect the dots.
self discipline will give you freedom. consistency will give you results
everything is temporary. You should find freedom in this concept
the rich stay rich acting poor and the poor stay poor acting rich
being healthy means finding a balance between the good and the bad
the people that outranked you have outworked you.
you can’t be grateful and negative at the same time.
Meditate on these statements. They are so very powerful! Xxx
