Songs That Suit Season 7 Characters in TNS
How I’ve made this is that I haven’t based my song choices out of what I think the character would listen to. It’s more based on how the song fits with their season seven storyline or even just one scene with the character that has been in season 7. Warning: Some of these songs have mature themes/swearing in them so if you’re uncomfortable with that, don’t listen. I will be marking them in this post with a (*). Mature themes will have 1 (*) and songs with swearing will have 2 (**). I also don’t have all the characters from season 7 on this list. Most of B-Troupe isn’t on it. I just thought I should focus on the characters that have had the most screen time since I’m focusing on season 7 stories.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1rzNDgwoXQJ47aFrW2jGuN
Note: Safe and Sound isn’t available on Spotify so it’s not on the playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsDCAxAXCTg
Nick - Daydream In Blue - I Monster *
Daydream In Blue makes me think of Nick in the offseason where he is cleaning the chandelier. Since the song mentions a chandelier it now makes me think of Nick. Since Myles Dobson uses feather duster and chandelier emotes/emojis on his discord/twitch, I will always think of Nick when I see a chandelier.
Amy - I like (The Idea Of) You - Tessa Violet
Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie (A Man After Midnight) - ABBA
Amy is definitely a love interest type character in TNS based on the last few seasons she’s been in so I feel like these two songs about desiring a relationship from someone suit her character.
Emily - Should I Stay or Should I Go? - The Clash
I picked Should I Stay or Should I Go because I feel like that sums up Emily’s season 7B dilemma of whether or not she should stay at TNS and be a partner with Nick or if she should go and work on a tour with Michelle.
Kenzie - Pencil Full Of Lead - Paolo Nutini
I picked Pencil Full Of Lead mostly because it’s an unproblematic song. Kenzie hasn’t really had much of a storyline in season 7. I just felt like this song suited her.
Finn - The Wanderer - Dion
TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME - 1975
I picked both of these songs because Finn is a cheater and he cheated on Amy. They both have very different sounds but the core messages of both songs do relate to season 7 Finn.
Piper - I hate u, I love u - gnash**
I think this song fits Piper in season 7A. She is trying to avoid her feelings for Finn due to him dating Amy. She discovers her feelings for Finn but she doesn’t want them so, this fits her story.
Jude - Birds - Terrence Williams Jr and Thomas Sanders
Birds is a calming song about birdwatching and while Jude hasn’t had a birdwatching storyline, I feel like her character is very calm and level headed and that the song matches her character.
Henry - Amsterdam - Nothing But Thieves**
I picked this song for Henry purely for the line “I really need that feeling back”. I feel like this sums up his relationship with Amy. He had feelings for her in season 6 and then they end up returning in the latter half of season 7 resulting in them having a relationship.
Richelle - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger by Daft Punk
Safe and Sound - Kyosuke Himuro featuring Gerard Way
Harder Better Faster Stronger is a song about working hard and improving and honestly, I feel like that perfectly embodies Richelle’s character throughout season 7. She wants to be the best she can be. I feel like Safe and Sound suits her for the same reason.
Cleo - Emperor's New Clothes by Panic! At The Disco
I picked this song for Cleo purely for the line “Finders Keepers”. Since A-Troupe threw the idea of going to Nationals away in turn for going to Dancemania at the start of the season, Cleo found this as an opportunity for B-Troupe to compete at Nationals, therefore, Finders Keepers.
Summer - Drown - Bring Me The Horizon
Boulevard Of Broken Dreams - Green Day**
Summer went through a lot of rejection during this season. She wasn’t great at being dance captain, she got rejected as a soloist from Dancemania, her choreo didn’t get a single vote, she didn’t get a chance to re audition as a soloist for Dancemania too. I know a lot of these were her own fault but that is a lot of rejection in a short space of time and that is why I feel like these songs would suit her. She hasn’t really been a team member to A-Troupe or B-Troupe. She’s just been trying to figure out what path she needs to be on alone.
Ozzy - What’s My Age Again? - Blink-182 **
I honestly picked this song for Ozzy due to him being quite childish. The song’s core theme is the idea of being quite childish and I think that suits Ozzy’s character fairly well.
Heathcliff - Run Boy Run - Woodkid
I feel like Run Boy Run suits Heath because of his scenes with Izzy. I do think of the apocalypse when I hear this song and I think that suits Heath and Izzy’s friendship well due to their little survival kits.
Kingston - Jenny - WALK THE MOON
I feel like Kingston would change the name Jenny to Lily. The song is about chasing after this girl and wanting her to chase after you back and I feel like an argument could be made that this related to Kingston’s relationship with Lily.
Lily - Hot Girl Bummer - Blackbear **
I feel like Lily would relate to this song during the times that Kingstily has broken up. Ozzy and Henry are fairly annoyed when Kingstily keeps breaking up so I feel like the line “I hate your friends and they hate me too” could easily relate to Lily.

Where did your episode reviews go?
Honestly, I put a lot of pressure on myself writing reviews every week and it just got too much. I’m not going to be doing episode reviews anymore. However, I will be doing a season review of season 7 once the last episode has aired. It won’t come out on the same day as it’s aired as I am going to rewatch season 7 as a whole just to get some notes as to what points in the season I want to refer to. After I’ve done that, I might do more season reviews on seasons 1-6. I have a lot of plans for my blog and it’s content. It’s not just going to be review based. I plan to talk about my opinions on the characters, specific dances, what storylines I wish happened and a lot more. I know recently I haven’t been that active but after the last episode is aired, you should be seeing a lot more posts from me (hopefully).

Nick honestly looks so good. I really love all of his outfits this season. I really hope if season 8 happens his style remains as iconic as it has been in season 7.

Would you re-do your tier list after season 7?
Honestly, I think I am going to because I have changed my mind on where some characters sit on the list. Like for example, Finn would definitely not be in legends because of the Pinn/Famy situation. But that’s just a tease of what I’d change. We’ll see after season 7 finishes.

Season 7 - Episode 7 (SPOILERS)
Henry and Summer, they were so cute in season 6 and the start of this season. I really do think this season that they’ve added a rift in their relationship for drama's sake. I hate that they broke up. If it was written differently, I might have felt different but I don’t think this feels natural for their respective characters.
I really like Lily and Kingston. I definitely think that something will happen between them this season. I think they’d be really cute together. It’s been hinted at in the off-season and they have been really close in season 7 so far. I do ship them but I also want a trio of friends with Ozzy, Kingston and Lily like in the last episode.
Nick and Emily are really cute. I’ve said this before, I ship them hard. How excited Nick got for Dancemania was really cute. Nick saying “How are you my love?” to Jade was actually adorable, although I’d be way more excited if he said that to Emily.
Nick trying so hard for him and Emily to be friends is just so sweet. I just want Emily to give in to his charm. The fact he bought her scones and tea from The Next Steep and called it “the place that shall not be named” made me giggle quite a bit. It was a nice call back to how they originally met. Nick’s trust fall as well, the fact he fell straight to the floor because Emily was distracted by scones was honestly quite funny.
Nick and Emily’s game of two truths and a lie. Nick being so happy while Emily would rather be anywhere else is adorable. Watching Nick fumble around the studio with a blindfold on while Emily is just staring at her phone and not helping him is oddly entertaining to watch. I like the fact that Michelle is getting mentioned even after she left because Emily’s rivalry/friendship with Michelle is a key part of her character. Although Nick saying “I’ll never be Michelle” is oddly sad but I think that’s because I’m heavily invested in these characters. I love Nick’s pink suit. It’s a statement for sure but he looks really good in it. I also love Piper’s butterfly wings. Summer’s suit is also a powerful look.
I really liked the interview portion of the episode when Jade is giving the dancers feedback on their respective solo’s. I think it was shot nicely and I wouldn’t mind if they had shots like that in future episodes. Also, the fact Kingston’s ringtone is Stand Up is really cute and I think it’s nice since that song does represent the studio and it shows Kingston's dedication and loyalty.
The talking heads scenes with Henry, Summer, Piper and Lily. Their nicknames I love. Smiley Cyrus for Lily was perfect. Ariana Grande Jeté for Piper was ace. The Bachelor (single for five minutes) for Henry made me giggle and Elle Capitan for Summer was well placed. I loved the puns for Lily and Piper as I do enjoy dad jokes and puns quite a bit.
Summer’s character growth in being able to critic A-Troupe. I like that she’s growing into a decent dance captain. As much as I’m upset that Richelle isn’t the one who is dance captain, I am growing to like Summer now.
I did really like this episode. I’d give it a 7/10.

TNS Character Tier List
Tumblr media
So I created a Tier List with a good most of The Next Step characters. I have uploaded this before but I realised that Summer and Solane weren’t included so I decided to re-do it and re-upload the list. If you don’t agree that’s fine, leave a message or a comment with what you would change for your own list or upload your own and @ me so I can see them. Also, I’m not great with titles so I hope you can forgive the names of the tiers, I am however pretty proud of the “GET OUT OF THE STUDIO” one.

Will you give your opinions of seasons one to six?
I am going to give the other seasons a review but it will be after season 7 has concluded as there will be no new The Next Step content out, but this is something I plan to do in the future. I’m not going to do it episode by episode like I am with season 7. I will create a checklist of points that I’ll address like who my favourite dancer is of that season, my favourite character is of that season, what my favourite storyline of the season was, what I would change if I was to change anything etc. But yes, I am going to go through past seasons. I do have a plan for this Tumblr. I have a lot of ideas for things that are about The Next Step that I’m going to write about so look forward to that coming soon 😊

Season 7 Episode 6 - (SPOILERS)
So on this episode, I like Amy and Finn. I think they make a really oddball friendship. I think it’s really sweet. But I really do not want them to become a couple. I really just want a good mixed-gender friendship on the show as good as Noah and Richelle was. Which I think Amy and Finn could live up to as their inside jokes were really cute to see. Finn knowing so much about tea, I’m really liking the odd hobbies and Interests this season, Summer with her tarot cards.
Seeing Piper at the end really confused about Amy and Finn’s “chai guy” in-joke was adorable. However, I don’t like that her talking head section said “Third Wheel” as, again, I don’t want Finn and Amy to date. I really want Amy to help Piper realise her feelings for Finn and be Piper’s wing woman, instead of causing a weird 0% club love triangle again with Amy in the centre.
Cleo and Jude, I loved the rollercoaster this relationship went on. They started excited to see each other since they met at A-Troupe Auditions which I found really sweet. I liked that when she messes up the choreography, she used humour to cover it up. The fact it was quite a dad joke made me giggle. I think that having trouble and using the whole “Class Clown” role was a good move on the writers as I do think that kind of role does suit Jude’s character. I really like Jude’s dyslexia storyline and I really hope that they have more on this story within the season. I do want Emily to find out one way or another because I want to know how she’d deal with that situation as typically it would’ve been Michelle who dealt with those kinds of problems. I think it was really adorable when Jude asked Cleo for her help with choreography. Their white wall too was really cute.
On solo auditions for the male soloist. I actually agree with Summers decision. I really liked Henry and Kingston’s solos. I think Kingston was a really close runner up for the solo spot. I do think that Ozzy wasn’t dancing his strongest. I think Ozzy could’ve done a lot better than what he did.
I don’t like how Henry doubted Summer’s decision and went straight to Nick to discuss it. I think it would’ve been more in character to just straight up ask her. He has his doubts and Summer, as his girlfriend, could’ve easily spoken about how she thought Henry’s solo compared to Ozzy and Kingston. I think the writers are adding drama here for drama’s sake. I really don’t think they should have a break or break up because they are really cute together and again, I think this is more drama for drama’s sake.
Now onto my favourite Nick, I’ve always got time for him. The fact that he is a Swiftie made perfect sense for his character. I think he’s great as a studio owner. I don’t think there is a possible way the writers could make me dislike Nick. He’s my all-time favourite character. All in all, I’d rate this episode an 8/10.

what's your opinion on the idea that the past few episodes have been a bit filler (e.g. not much happening in relation to the season's overarching nationals plot, not starring a lot of the main cast, esp. the alternate episode, etc.)? i personally feel that while some of it is filler, a decent amount of it could be relevant later on; e.g. i saw some promo pics with people like ethan from the alternate ep and ofc all the dance cap stuff is building to a summer v richelle; but what do you think?
Honestly, I personally don’t mind that it’s mostly “filler” at the moment. It’s kind of nice to not see A-Troupe stressing about competition and just seeing the characters interact and have fun. Like last episode there were some class moments like Heath and Izzy forming a friendship, Ozzy jumping into Kingston's arms because of the rain, seeing Lily fit into A-Troupe and having friends. I like seeing that sort of stuff. However, I don’t think filler is the right word to use. I think they are setting up building blocks for the rest of the season. Episode 1 is a farewell to Michelle but also sets up that there are going to be stories based around Richelle and Kenzie being Frenemies. Episode 2 helped explain that Lily wasn’t going to be like Amanda in season 2 and that she actually wanted to compete with The Next Step. Episode 3 set up that there may be more focus on the A-Troupe and B-Troupe dynamic which we did end up seeing in Episode 5 with Heath and Izzy and we will probably see more with Jude and Cleo. Episodes 4 and 5 I think are setting Summer up for failure at being dance captain and that we might see her get replaced either by Kenzie and Richelle since they were both up for the running in episode 3 or maybe Henry since he told Summer that correcting people was apart of being dance captain meaning he would know what to do if he was in that scenario. While the episodes don’t feature all of A-Troupe, I don’t think that’s a problem because when you have a smaller selection of characters, you can focus on building that character. For example, I don’t think that episode 5 would have worked as well with all of A-Troupe. That’s just my opinion. I’m not a writer on the show meaning all of that could be false, but it does feel like it’s going in that direction. Hope that fully answers your question.

Season 7 Episode 5 - (SPOILERS)
I still think that Summer is the incorrect choice of Dance captain and this episode just kind of cemented my opinion. She took credit for Heathcliff showing up when in actuality he took his role as the alternate seriously. I think either she should’ve removed Henry from the dance or booked Studio A or One so that she and Henry could rehearse. Since she is Henry’s girlfriend, she could’ve used the excuse that she wanted time to work on choreography, plus spend time with Henry and that doing both hits two birds with one stone. She has seen Noah as dance captain so it’s not like she doesn’t understand what a dance captain has to do. It’s the role of a dance captain to make sure the team works together and that they’re focused on dance. Instead, she has hurt both Heathcliff and Henry. That and she has trouble giving out corrections which Henry pointed out to her. On my favourite, Nick, him coming in soaking wet was really cute. He’s clearly annoyed but is still smiling and I think that suits his character very well. Him saying “Blimey” too, it was cute and very English. His character really is caring and it’s one of the reasons why he is my favourite this season. I just wish he, alongside Emily actually, would have more screen time. His reaction to Summer’s choreography was also adorable. Him being lost for words was just so in character. I do like Lily in this episode. I hope they continue the trio dynamic with Ozzy, Kingston and Lily. It was hinted in the off-season that there would be some kind of relationship, whether that be a friendship or romantic relationship between Kingston and Lily. I do really like this trio. I hope they do keep things platonic because it would be nice to have a mixed-gender friend group without romantic drama. Seeing Lily, Ozzy and Kingston in detective mode, was cool and humorous. It’s nice to see Lily mixing in well with the rest of A-Troupe. On my new favourite dancer duo (since my favourite duo this season is Nick and Emily), Heathcliff and Izzy. I hope we see more about their friendship because it’s weird, but cute at the same time. Seeing them dance together, they both look like they’re having fun and enjoying each others company. I really hope this doesn’t become romantic as there has been a trend for making friends become an item, for example, Sloane and LaTroy, and I think Izzy and Heathcliff would be better as friends. I’ve said before that I miss family relationships on The Next Step like James with his Aunt Kathy, his mum and his uncle/driving instructor. I think that this would be a good opportunity to bring that back as Ozzy and Heathcliff are rivals and Izzy is developing a new friendship with Heath. It would be cool to see how their parents and potential other siblings that aren’t into dance, react to Izzy and Ozzy’s dynamic change due to her friendship with Heath. Maybe seeing their parents be nice to Heathcliff in their home and see Ozzy react to it would be interesting. Speaking Of Ozzy and Heathcliff’s rivalry, it started the most pathetic way. It was a bit anti-climatic. Rewinding back to Izzy, seeing Ozzy be a protective older brother was quite cute too when they were interrogating Heath about the power. It makes sense for Ozzy’s character since I do think him and Izzy have a close relationship. I also like how Izzy called Ozzy out for trying to choose who she can and can’t be friends with and I do think her calling him Oswald was a bit of a wake-up call for Ozzy. I hope that Ozzy fixes things by the end of the season, both with Izzy and Heathcliff as that’s a trio I’d like to see. I love the dancing with the flashlights, as Nick points out, “It’s magical”. I do think they should’ve added coloured lights as I think with the white costumes it would’ve been cool, but that’s just my opinion. All in all, I’d rate this episode a 6.5/10.

Hi! I just wanted to ask where you watched the Christmas special because I can’t find it anywhere
I watched it using BBC iPlayer. I am unsure of where else you can watch it. However, one follower suggested using a VPN and using the iPlayer to watch it. Hope that helps : )

Season 7 Episode 4 - (SPOILERS)
This episode was definitely juicy. I love Piper and Finn. I think they are adorable. Seeing Piper smile and laugh at his messages is so cute. That and it’s so sweet how she wants him and Amy to get along. I do like how Amy didn’t like him at first, I think it’s really sweet. However, I still don’t want Amy and Finn to get together. I just think it’s a bad move. I do hope that Amy gives Finn some advice on Piper though since he was crushing on her through season 6 and I think having Amy focus on her friendships rather than relationships is what she needs. Plus seeing wing-woman Amy would be genuinely cool. On Cleo and Richelle, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CAN THEY BECOME GOOD FRIENDS?! They are quite alike and I think Cleo will help Richelle a lot. She already has with helping Richelle deal with dance captaincy and being an ear to listen to. I genuinely hope she has another chance to be dance captain this season. In my last post about episode 3 I wrote “I don’t think Summer is the best fit for dance captain though. Summer is just far too sweet and I don’t think she can make harsh decisions that a dance captain will have to do” and so far what I’m saying is correct. She didn’t stop Heathcliff and Ozzy and the episode left us with her potentially having to cut Henry from the small group. I predict she won’t do it and it will cost something for the team. I think either Summer will lose her captaincy or she will find a way to be co-captains. I personally hope the co-captaincy happens with Richelle because A) Richelle needs to be dance captain, it’s been hinted at so much and B) I think they’d make a good team as Summer is more caring and honestly quite similar to Michelle, and I think Richelle would be able to deal with more of the cut-throat stuff like kicking someone off a dance because they’re not up to scratch. Now onto Heathcliff and Ozzy, they are genuinely so cute. I think their rivalry is adorable. I have a feeling that Heathcliff and Ozzy are going to become like Richelle and Jacquie and end up being good friends or even best friends. At least I hope that happens. I don’t think it’s The Next Step if you don’t have a rivalry that turns into a friendship (See Hunter and Eldon, Emily and Michelle, James and Alfie, Jacquie and Richelle etc). Seeing Richelle give Finn advice was so cute. Then watching Finn try to explain to Amy and put the advice Richelle gave to use was just brilliant. Finn is one of my favourite characters this season. Now onto my favourite character ever, Nick. I loved seeing a more strict side to him. I think he dealt with Ozzy and Heathcliff very well in a way that actually helped Ozzy and Heath understand each other, even if it was only a little bit. That and Nick on Emily’s chair made me giggle quite a lot. I ship them hard. All in all, I did like the episode. I rate it a 7/10.

Season 7 Episode 3 - (SPOILERS)
Due to all the new dancers we have been introduced to in this episode, like Izzy, Ethan, Marcus, Jude etc, I really hope they have some B-Troupe heavy storylines this season and actually have them interact with A-Troupe whether it just be socially or for a small group/duet. Jude really reminds me of Lola back on season 5. I’d like to see more of her. I really relate to Jude as I also have trouble with my lefts and rights and it does cause a little trouble for me. Speaking of Jude, I ship her and Cleo already. Seeing Cleo come to ask about her and if she was going to be on B-Troupe was really adorable. Onto Nick and Emily. I SHIP THEM SO HARD. I can’t be alone with that. That wink he gives her when he plays the “I own the studio” card. OH MY GOD YES! I really hope they get together by the end of the season. It would be cool to see the more “senior” people of The Next Step get together. Nick might be my favourite person this season I won’t lie. Nick looking so impressed with the dancers while Emily has the straightest face ever was really cute. Their white wall as well, Emily pushing Nick away and then taking centre stage with that hair flip. So Sassy. That and he’s just so overly excited about the dancers and auditions, it’s kind of adorable watching him interrupt Emily. Onto Ozzy, I think he is definitely going to have an Arc this season. Based on his sister being on B-Troupe and Heathcliff making A-Troupe. I hope that his and Heathcliff’s rivalry either turns into a friendship or a romance. It would be cool to see some more LQBTQ+ stories on The Next Step, we’ve been waiting since Daniel in season 1. Speaking of things we’ve been waiting for, Richelle to be dance captain. It’s been set up since Emily was on A-Troupe and gave Richelle the dance captain diary. I really hope that Richelle gets to be dance captain at some point since It’s been her dream since she was on J-Troupe. Her Rivals for dance captain being Summer and Kenzie makes perfect sense though. Kenzie since she’s Richelle’s new “Frenemy” and Summer since she’s had a Rival with her since Richelle returned from her injury last season. I don’t think Summer is the best fit for dance captain though. Summer is just far too sweet and I don’t think she can make harsh decisions that a dance captain will have to do. I am a little sad that Winnie x Ozzy didn’t end so great. I don’t want Winnie to end up like Eldon though, obsessing over one person to face constant rejection. I want her to find her own happiness. On Marcus and Ethan, It would be cool to see a broship in B-Troupe like there is in A-Troupe. I really liked this episode though. I’d give it a 7/10. I’m just excited to see where the season goes.
