Cryptomoon’s Dropbox/Calibre/FanFicFare Portable and Semi-Automated Fanfiction Library Tutorial Masterlist

Alright, so maybe the title is a bit much… Anyway! Above are examples of what my personal fanfiction library looks like! Pretty neat, right?

Most of the cool stuff actually happens behind the scenes though. Like downloading fics straight from Ao3 and scraping tag information automatically, normalizing tag variations, filtering those tags into neat and easy to read columns, also putting expanded info and putting it on the sidebar so it’s easy to click through to ao3 to leave comments or see the full summary at a glance, taking that info and inserting it neatly on a page immediately after the cover inside the ebook, generating pretty covers, checking my e-mail for fic updates and then downloading/scraping them from within the program, etc. 

A bit of a disclaimer: I am far from an advanced user. I have a good handle on what I use calibre and fanficfare for, but really I have barely scratched the surface. I claim no ownership of any of the fics in my example screenshots, but they are all frickin’ amazing and you should go read them immediately (and kudos/comment while you’re at it). I also have had nothing to do with the development of calibre, fanficfare, or any other plugins. The only thing I can claim to own is my terrible handwriting on the screenshots. Honestly, I am just a ridiculous fan of the creators of these free programs and you should go show them some serious love if you end up using this system. 

 Alright so on to the tutorial. You’ll want to download and install Dropbox before you get started as this tutorial uses the portable version of calibre.

even fat people who wear clothes you think are unflattering!

your appearance literally does not make you better than a fat person. you are not more fun to hang out with because you’re not fat. you are not funnier, smarter, or more interesting by virtue of not being fat. you aren’t harder working, you don’t have more self-control, you don’t have your life more together.

the only difference between you and fat people is that they have to put up with a lot of harassment, discrimination, exclusion, and other bullshit that you don’t even think about.

try not to add to it.

As a trans person how did you feel about Great Men Academy? I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone discussing if it’s transphobic or not. I’m really curious what you think.

ooof anon , you’re coming in with those sweet sweet questions that are gonna get me fucking crucified thirty times over jfkdjfkdjkfjf

regardles , the short answer is : yes , i do think it’s transphobic .

why ? well , in short : it takes some parts of the trans experience and makes them cis . what’s wrong with that ? well , a few things .

for starters , one of the most important things about it is : the main character as a cis person who got “ accidentally put in the wrong body “ and who therefore experienced certain things trans people also experience , was taken seriously .

“ yes , of course you feel this way , of course you feel horrible about being stuck in this body , because you’re actually a girl “ . a trans person rarely gets that kind of treatment from any person and never gets that kind of treatment from absolutely everyone around them . but everyone instantly accepted the main character as a girl when it came out that she’s actually a girl .

and if you think it happened because the entire cast of characters is super progressive and woke , you’re beyond deluding yourself . they’ve done it because she’s a cis girl temporarily in this state and since she was “ born a girl “ , of course she will always stay a girl .

moreover , the body she’s in “ temporarily “ is treated like a prison . she is a girl , so how about instead of “ suffering “ in this body she doesn’t like at all , she starts changing it . that’s what we go through . bring back your long hair , start wearing makeup again - do all the things you used to do and you’re comfortable with , you can do it . the reason why that doesn’t happen is because the show treats it as if she’s been trapped in a male body and of course she needs to either get out of it or live as a stereotypical man - no other options .

the show is toying with our experiences and gives them over to cis people to play with . the thing is though , those cis people get to play and have fun with those experiences while experiencing zero opression and that’s the problem . privileged people taking something important and inherent to a marginalized group and making it their own is not a good thing , i thought we all knew that .

so in conclusion - yeah , it’s pretty fucking transphobic 🤷‍♂️
