The Pace Report: "The Groovin' Trio" The Yes Trio Interview
Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report featuring The Yes Trio performing new music from their latest CD "Groove du Jour"(Jazz and People Records).
The trio, Aaron Goldberg on piano, Omer Avital on bass, and Ali Jackson on drums have been friends since they arrived in New York City since the 1990s. The three have played and recorded with some of the most important musicians of this era. Omer, who hails from  Givatayim, Israel and Brooklyn raised, has played with the Nat Adderley, Jimmy Cobb, Al Foster, and Steve Grossman. Ali is a native of Detroit and was the drum chair of Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra under the leadership of Wynton Marsalis. Aaron is from Boston and has played and recorded with Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Redman, and Charles Lloyd.
These musicians have recorded solo projects as leaders but The Yes Trio is a blending of respect of the elders and them introducing new compositions. "Groove du Jour" features two standards "I'll Be Seeing You" and a Jackie McLean classic, "Dr. Jackie."
I sat down with the trio to talk about their musical roots, how their friendship as evolved, and the upcoming tour.
For more info on The Yes Trio's upcoming tour dates visit them on Facebook at Facebook.com/YesTrio.

Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report featuring Rock and Roll Hall of Famer drummer Steve Smith.
Over the last four decades, Steve has been a member of the rock group Journey who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. The Pace Report:” The Lucky, Mr. Person” The Houston Person Interview
Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report featuring jazz legend Houston Person. He recently played the famed Jazz Standard in New York performing music from his new HighNote Records release "I'm Just A Lucky So and So,"
During the 1960's Houston backed some of the most important jazz organists including Johnny Hammond, Richard "Groove" Holmes, Charles Earland, and Don Patterson. He's also remembered for producing and backing the great Etta Jones. He's also extremely versed in the songbooks of pop, jazz, blues, world music, and R & B. His latest album showcases his love for the song via ballads and his down-home love for the music.
I sat down with Houston to talk about his dislike for the term 'Soul Jazz," reflect on his musical icon Illinois Jacquet, and how important it is for musicians to develop their own voice.
