A self-published photobook by Max Zhiltsov from #Limassol, #Cyprus.

Max says:

"This series of photos is dedicated to Limassol and my very first impression of the city.

Black and white photographs made on film are representing Limassol and its fatigue is driven by controversial city growth. Real and authentic photography of the city, honest look at its life from the backyards.

Would it be too "dark" or just honest — depends on how biased is your point of view."

Our Weekly Wrap-Up newsletter starts with the one dedicated to the launch of The Phooks which was launched on the first week of April, now it is growing thanks to the community.

We'd like to tell you about what we have achieved to the moment.

The Purpose

There's a single idea behind — to build a place where Publishers and their photobooks meet Collectors, present the work they create, sell and buy the books they love. I was developing the website and building the library during the last three weeks to make this happen. Efforts and your support bring results: we have 11 books from 7 artists and a dozen of submission in progress.

The Common Values

Artists look for exposure and sales, Collectors — for the unique books. The Phooks provides both and the community shows its interest and support for the idea.

A new artistbook by Michel Mazzoni from #Brussels, #Belgium, published with MER.

Other Things Visible

The book was released along with Michel’s ongoing exhibition at Botanique in Brussels and consist of black and white photographs compiled into a minimalistic journal.

128 pages of abstract patterns and urban landscape compositions in a zine format.

Here's a little movie on "Sicily" — a gorgeous book by Massimo Gurciullo and a few words by Giuseppe Cicozzetti from Scriptphotography:

"Sicily is a land whose narration is inexhaustible, a "place of memory", as Vincenzo Consolo loved to call it, which in its memory assumes and frees meanings and allusions often as contrasting as profound, almost like Sicilian photographers - the line is long and illustrious - had decided to engage with the island a personal relationship, a space of foundation in which to agree a private, personal mediation, a confrontation to two.

"Sicily" by Massimo Gurciullo is part of the debate between new and old language, between a style that seems to have exhausted its exploration and therefore is looking for new protagonists to whom to entrust a new voice."

"I found a box in 2015 of which nobody knew very well the whereabouts. Thrilled immediately by this discovery of photographs and negatives that not appeared in the family albums I started flipping through them. [...] I made a prototype book out of the album and started to show this to my family, close and overseas. This resulted in conversations, revelations and renewed relationships."
