Having discovered that the “point between rage and serenity” implies that Charles has indeed felt the gamut of the emotional states.
He’s tried every combination to get control of his gifts, to keep them tucked out of the way so nobody noticed.
The point between rage and serenity.
It is the place of steely determination.
It is the stability upon which great deeds are carried out.
Not utter peace and tranquility. Not incandescent rage. Not giddy joyousness. The calm, purposeful state of being where one has something to do and the will to do it.
A rational state of mind with drive and purpose, like the steering wheel on a battleship. It’s got to be a calm, steady hand to guide that kind of power for a purpose.
We see Charles at many extremes of emotion, and yet he always goes back to the middle. He doesn’t stay at the extremes. He goes back to the middle ground where his first wisdoms have been rooted. It’s consistent.
Honestly, that’s really good advice anyway.
I’m just having so many thoughts about this right now.

No but the Hunger Games really said "what do you hate more- the atrocities or the people who commit them against you? Because like it or not there IS a difference. If you hate the people who commit acts of pure evil more than you hate the acts themselves, what will stop you from becoming just like your enemies in your pursuit of justice? What will keep you from commiting those very same acts against THEM when the opportunity arises? And what then? The cycle of pain and suffering will never stop. Round and round it'll go. Nothing will ever change. But. BUT. If you hate the atrocities. If you hate the vile, senseless acts MORE than you hate the people who did them to you. If you are able to see that evil is evil regardless of who does it... The cycle ends with you. No, you may never get justice. But you will never be responsible for making others, even your enemies, suffer the same crimes you have. The atrocities will never be committed by you, never by your hand. And that's the way you change the world. It's the ONLY way" and that's why I am sure it will never stop being one of the most relevant works of fiction ever created

Saw someone hc Charles as doing rowing in college and that's honestly so rad. I went to the gym earlier and was on the rowing machine and started thinking about it. Like, Charles is so much physically stronger than people give him credit for. He knocks Erik completely off his feet with one hit - and while the surprised factored in a little bit, it was a solid, heavy hit. He retained a lot of strength for a guy who was effectively rotting for almost a decade. I feel like sports could have been such an outlet for him in college, because I feel like he's a person with a lot of pent up rage - and rowing is extremely physically involved. With no one around to watch in the 60s because the school feel apart in the Vietnam era, all there was to do was externalize that rage and upset with drugs and breaking stuff. I think he managed to maintain more strength than he realized, because he might have been able to goad Hank into fighting with him. Charles Xavier and extreme capability around physical violence and was very good at disguising it.

"I'd say the most weirdly mundane and yet most upsetting moment for charles is in this film when he [erik] goes 'oh shut up, there's always a speech' that's like you've hurt me the way that only your wife or your husband can."

❝What about the rest of the world? Doesn’t it ever wake you up in the middle of the night? The feeling that one day they’ll come for you and your children. It does, indeed. What do you do when you wake up to that? I feel a great swell of pity for the poor soul that comes to my school looking for trouble.❞

Compilation of Taylor’s Clean Speeches from the 1989 World Tour | Clean Speech Masterpost
I know for many of us, the words that Taylor shares before she sings Clean mean as much to us as the lyrics of the song do, because someone that we love and care about knows the struggles we’re facing, and she’s cheering us on – that’s why I wanted to compile all of Taylor’s Clean speeches together in the one place. It’s been an incredible experience transcribing all the speeches and seeing the positive and healing impact that Taylor’s words have had on myself and others. Thank you for your words, Taylor.
This post contains every Clean speech from the 1989 World Tour.
N.B. this post will be very long.
