Someday, I'd like to go one week without meeting an insane mage. Just one week. [RP blog for Rogue!Garrett Hawke with the witty and charming personality. His placement is at the beginning of ACT 1, he will progress from there. I'm willing to RP with any DA/Bioware/game characters.]

"I'll start to worry when the day comes that you do understand my humour, Merrill." Hawke retorted playfully.
Of course she couldn't bluff, Merrill was honest, too honest to play a game of cards with the likes of Isabela and Varric, they'd wipe the floor with her in a matter of seconds. Though Hawke was sure that Isabela would sometimes overlook the fact that Merrill wasn't bluffing, just to keep the elf in the game for a little longer. The pirate was fond of the young elf, there was no doubt about that.
"Well then, lets keep Fenris away from any source of water." He chuckled in unison with Merrill's giggles. It was almost like having a conversation with Bethany when she was a child, even now they still had playful banter, but not on the scale that he and Merrill had. It was a breath of fresh air that had managed to worm its way through the tense atmosphere that hung over Kirkwall.
"Sometimes people see what they want to see, Merrill. I can't make him change his mind and you know my stance on your blood magic. I wish you hadn't resorted to it in the first place." Noting how she was attempting to apologise, Hawke offered her a luke warm smile and a slight shrug. The day a demon came knocking on her door wanting payment, Hawke was going to put an end to it. He couldn't afford to think of one persons happiness over the lives of many. He hated how such decisions were on his head, but if it had to be this way then the least Garrett could do is accept it and make what he felt was the right decision.
"My mood is perfectly dry I'll have you know. How are things at the alienage? Witnessed any more muggings?"
merrill-of-the-dalish started following you
“My ‘furry friends?” Her head tilted slightly. “Oh! You mean the rats. Why would they pay rent? They’re animals… You’re joking again, aren’t you?” Merrill gave an apologetic smile. “All this time and I still don’t understand your humour, Hawke.”
She shook her head. “I tried card games that one time we were in the Hanged Man and I don’t think I’ll ever do it again. I’m not good at - what was it called? Bluffing? I always seem to do it wrong.” Merrill’s understanding of why Fenris disliked her was very clear. She was a mage, and worse, a blood mage at that. But, she’d never done anything to purposely hurt anyone… Everyone else seemed to be kind to her. Yes, they didn’t approve of her use of Blood Magic, or atleast didn’t understand. But Fenris acted as if she had done something to personally hurt him. And this was what she didn’t understand.
She giggled slightly at Hawke’s comparison. “If you tried to put him in the sea I’m sure he’d just sink to the bottom.” Hawke had always been accepting of who she was - even if he didn’t agree - and she had been very grateful of that fact. “I know you do… And I go willingly when you ask me to. Fenris is a skilled fighter, there’s no doubt about that. I just wish he’d be more… accepting of me - not just see me as a dirty blood mage.” Merrill shook herself from her saddened state. “I’m sorry, Hawke. I didn’t come here to dampen your mood.”

Oh, he was serious when he needed to be, but a life of hardships had brought out a quirky coping mechanism for Hawke. He used humor for everything, including a mask. By now it was just all too instinctive to wear it.
"True, I don't think Mabari are fond of eating toads." The rogue chuckled lightly in return to the elf's comment. "He seems fond of you though the last time I brought him along for one of our amazing adventures. He didn't seem to want to leave your side." Aware that he sounded completely back water and oh so Ferelden, Hawke simply smiled.
"Mabari are meant to be a good judge of character, they pick their owners. Maker knows why Dog picked me. Carver was furiously jealous, insisted that I must have stuffed raw meat in to my pockets. Which was a good idea, I should have done it."
Ah the satisfaction that Hawke was given when he won, his competitive nature always did get the best of him. Though this time Dog had been the judge and he had won fair and square. Even if he didn't really know how it had happened.
According to Merrill, you elves like to frolic.
Sometimes, Fenris honestly wondered if Hawke was capable of being serious. All evidence pointed to the negative, but most of the time Fenris enjoyed Hawke’s humor. It was a light in his shadowed world. “Your uncle may give the poor creature an upset stomach. Gamlen can’t be a healthy meal by any standards.”

"Yes something is." His voice was uncharacteristically serious, eyes the colour of Jupiter are half covered by paled eyelids as Hawke removed the hand from his face. A small voice sang out within the back of his mind, telling the Ferelden to try again with his flirtatious hint.
"I just realized that I didn't feed Dog this morning."
Or maybe not.
"With any luck he's eaten uncle Gamlen."
According to Merrill, you elves like to frolic.
Despite his annoyance at the brooding jokes, Fenris felt a touch of concern for the leader of their ‘merry band of misfits’ as Hawke liked to call them. “Is…something the matter?”

"Yes Merrill, it was a joke." Hawke jeered playfully, his tone soft and friendly as he offered the Dalish girl an all so natural smile. "Are your furry friends still taking up residence or did you decide to evict them for skipping rent day?" Inquiring with a raised brow, Garrett watched as the smile began to fade from Merrill's jovial lips.
"If you mean by learnt so much that you know how to run away from dragons and how to gamble against a sneaky dwarf and a pirate in a game of cards, then I'd say my work here is done." Humor was always something that was injected in to each and every word that passed the Ferelden's lips. Though he couldn't help but hear some of the things Fenris would hiss at Merrill if she tried to make conversation with him whenever the two elves were within breathing distance of each other. Hawke himself didn't agree with the fact she used blood magic, it worried him. Not just for his own safety, but for Merrill's too.
"Fenris is.. he's almost like a rock. Naturally hard on the outside and on the inside. Chuck whatever you want at it and it won't budge. Okay scratch that, he is a rock." Attempting not to dwell on his recent failure of a flirt, the human continued on with the conversation. "I don't ask you to come along on trips so that you can be hurt by whatever Fenris has to say, Merrill. I ask you because I want you to be there." He didn't admit it out loud, but there were times that Hawke found himself protective of the female elf, almost as if she were a second Bethany. Maybe if she had been, she wouldn't have needed to turn to blood magic.

She then realised that Hawke had been joking. “Oh! You were joking!” Merrill gave her embarrassed smile. “Well, I just thought I would come and visit. I realised that you always came to visit me in my little house in the Alienage, and I never came to visit you. So, here I am. Visiting.” Her smile dropped slightly with the mention of Fenris. “You know I like going on adventures with you Hawke, and I’ve learnt so much from my time with you. But sometimes Fenris is just- I understand why he acts how he is- But he can be really mean sometimes…” She looked down and messed with her fingers.

Using a hand to cover his face, Hawke found himself in a losing battle.
He really wasn't cut out to wooing elves that were oblivious to his hints -- or were just too shy of telling him to take a hike. Even blatant rejection would be welcome over the mixed signals that Fenris seemed to emit. Puzzles were never his forte.
"Let's just grab a bottle of something that can make me forget about this whole thing." The rogue suggested with forced charm.

*raises a dark eyebrow, finding that whatever amusement he found in the brooding jokes was fading quickly*

We could do that too. Or you could let me buy you a drink and simply pretend to like it. Or would that be impeding on your brood rules?
According to Merrill, you elves like to frolic.
I never claimed to have the best methods, Fenris, though they do happen to be the funner ones.
Well then, let me get you a drink. Feel like seeing who can stomach the most swill in the Hanged man?

In Isabela’s opinion everyone should be cruder than they are. Though if they were, I suspect she’d get bored of it all.
Taunting them maybe not be the best method to achieving their attention. Perhaps you should just ask them out for a drink.

Well, they aren't really an object that I want to acquire as per say, I'm fairly sure they'd punch me if that was what I said. So I prefer to call them the my person of interest. It makes me sound romantic and charming -- according to Isabela, though she thinks I should be a little more crude just to get their attention.
Though I am tempted to just kick their shin and pull their hair and then say I like them. It's so much easier.
According to Merrill, you elves like to frolic.
Is that so? I suppose I should wish you good luck in acquiring the one that’s more valuable than all the whores in a whore house.

Hawke chuckled at the elf before giving her a fairly warm smile. "So what brings you here? Feeling like coming along on a merry old adventure with demons and dragons and the occasional sour comment from Fenris?"
merrill-of-the-dalish started following you
Merrill! What a pleasant surprise. And here I was thinking that you had left me.

- Garrett laughed dryly, a smirk fixing on to his Ferelden lips as golden eyes linger over the elf with a glimmer of amusement. -
I have my sights set on something a little more valuable than what I'd find in the Blooming Rose, Fenris.
According to Merrill, you elves like to frolic.
And I’m sure they’d want more than coin from me for such a service.

Must have something to do with the air there then since I can't dance as well *chuckles*
I think our Ferelden ancestors angered someone very powerful and magical and decided that our curse would be to never dance again.

I’ve never seen an elf frolic before.
I almost feel left out.
Why haven’t I been invited to your secret frolicking sessions in the city?
I bet you practically leap from room to room in that big empty mansion of yours.

❈ HEADCANON
Hawke can't dance. He has no rhythm what so ever. Any fluidity he has in movement is purely on the battlefield.

Is that what you wanted the elf ears for? To be able to dance with Fenris?
I'm Ferelden, the closest thing I can do to a dance is to have some kind of seizure.

Well instead of doing it in front of the mirror, why not do it in front of me? I can't dance let alone frolic. Teach me, o wise and brood-some one.
