Response to this from @stargazingking
“Interesting...” Riley waved his hand at the mysterious time flower, stopping the “recording” just before it ended. With another wave, he quickly returned it back to the beginning, stopping at the first demonstration. “So he’s found some students. Good for him.” With that, Riley took a sip of his tea, glancing over at his Lucario as he did so. She was as well versed as him in the use of Aura, so he was curious as to what she thought about the demonstration.
“These lessons are too focused on visuals, and not enough focus on cultivating a pure sense in aura. Shouldn’t they be meditating instead?” Just as Riley was hoping, his partner spoke up with a valid concern. He did notice this too, but he was more open minded to this approach.
“I do prefer using meditation as an initial training method, but there are several factors that hinder it,” Riley stated, setting down his cup on the table and waving his hand to the a “frame” where the next demonstration could easily be seen. “Humans aren’t born with the tendrils that Riolu and Lucario have, so our senses aren’t as naturally attuned to the flow of aura. The traditional methods I’ve learned are rooted in training with Lucario, and back then life was slower paced, from what I understand. Back then, aura guardians could cultivate a pure sense as they had the time to devote to it, which helped with honing their focus. These days, it is hard to find time to cultivate that focus, and a faster-paced life requires more from your attention.”
“This method allows people to associate aura with the sense they are most attuned for: sight. It grounds what one would see as a strange phenomenon with something tangible, which can go a long way in practice. It wasn’t unheard of for some teachers of old to use these methods as an introduction for novices, especially the ones who lack focus initially.”
Riley pointed to the point where Rex told his students to focus to see their own aura, which produced a small ripple as his finger touched the imaginary water. “After all, it is easier to focus on your reflection than pure nothingness.”
#\The Power of Aura: Headcanon/#stargazingking#\Drabble/#My Riley muse apparently pipes up whenever there's Aura Worldbuilding needed to be done lol#Though Riley will still sit his students down for meditation first before trying these methods#what can I say? Random fuckin headcanon:
You know how trainers can play back pokemon sounds on their pokedex?
You know which pokemon has the most memeable noise right?
Now imagine giving every single trainer access to that sound 24/7.
This is how trainers in Sinnoh prank each other:
Surprise Kricketune Cry!

I know that I haven’t been on Riley in a while and right now I’m neck deep in math cause Finals but thanks to the dash I’ve out a convoluted way to use this old HC of mine to allow Riley’s Lucario to learn Meteor mash.
Long story short a stray Smeargle finds itself on Iron Island and Sketches Meteor Mash from a Metang or Metagross on the Island (possibly even Riley’s). The pokemon then somehow winds up being taken up by the local Lucario pack and finds a breeding partner in the pack, resulting in a Riolu that learned the move. Some time passes and the Riolu evolves, and Riley and his Lucario discover it and learn the move through that.
Meanwhile in the whole history of the Pokemon world, the Meteor Mash Lucario winds up being on the November (2016? 2017?) Front Page Cover of Breeders Magazine, a prestigious magazine that highlights breeding stuff, and the finding might also wind up in a few other magazines and scholarly journals, being the latest in a series of discovery findings on breeding including several new Bug Type pokemon learning Sticky Web (featured on the magazine’s cover in October of the same year).
wow this got longer than I thought it was gonna be
#I love Meteor Mash Lucario but I hate that you literally have to use Smeargle to get it#or learn it from another lucario but if you go far enough down the breeding chain you have to have Smeargle Sketch the move#and then breed with Lucario#\In Meditation: OOC/#\The Power of Aura: Headcanon/

Although Riley is very skilled in a variety of aura abilities, one particular skill set that he has mastered is the art of imbuing objects with aura. It was his necklace that initially piqued his interest, as early on in his quest to learn more about aura he discovered that this necklace had it’s own aura surrounding it, but was only activated when he focused his own aura into it. Given that he had this as early as the time he was dropped off at the orphanage, this discovery made him feel closer to the family that he never got to know. With later investigation, Riley learned that this necklace enhanced aura abilities and allowed Riley to channel aura more easily.
However, Riley’s book did not have any specific information on imbuing, with only a short description of the skill before encountering a series of torn pages. Still, that didn’t deter Riley, as he experimented a lot with different imbuing techniques. The only successful attempts, however, were when he channeled aura into objects with the symbol of his necklace engraved into them.
It wasn’t until he arrived in Rota that he managed to find any more information on the skill. The library of Rota was vast and expansive, and Riley managed to find several books on imbuing itself, as well as a completed copy of his own book that he purchased from the Canalave Library. He learned that there are a plethora of symbols that allowed one to channel aura into an object, but each symbol had a different purpose. He also learned that certain stones and crystals reacted to aura as well, and some crystals (such as the ones in Sir Aaron’s gloves and staff) were extremely attuned to channel aura.
Unfortunately, Riley needed money if he wanted to stay in Rota, something more stable than the income of a trainer, which was dictated on how often you won. Riley knew how much a piece of jewelry can mean to a person, given that it was a necklace that allowed Riley to even start his journey in learning more about Aura. Maybe, while he was in Rota, he could do the same for others. As a result, he managed to find an apprenticeship with a jeweler in Rota, and for a year he trained under the old man and his son, learning the skills of jewelry making while also practicing his engraving and imbuing skills on his own time. When he was later given the opportunity to create his own pieces, Riley chose to incorporate aura symbols into his work, imbuing a little aura in each piece in the hopes that they would benefit others, even if the clients did not have aura abilities themselves.
When Riley returned to Sinnoh, he set out to hone his jeweler skills as well as his aura and battle skills, using what money he had to set up a workshop on Iron Island and a small booth in Canalve City. His good relation with Byron allowed him to search the island’s mines for metals and stones to create his own pieces, although most of the mines had been mined out by that time. Still, he found enough material to start working on his own pieces.
With a little bit of luck, Riley managed to produce some astounding pieces of jewelry, many of which were imbued with aura, which he managed to sell for rather high prices. This allowed him to save up enough money to funnel into the preservation of Iron Island, its pokemon, and its ruins. He’s even used his imbuing powers to set up various runes around Iron Island, most of which are meant to detect humans who aren’t supposed to be in the area.
Riley enjoys engraving and imbuing, and will often engrave and imbue pieces of jewelry or other items (for example, a pocket watch) as presents for people that he cares about.
#\The Power of Aura: Headcanon/#long post#I always like the idea of imbuing an item with aura and wanted to write a thing on it#also this is a good way to explain why Aura Hermit Man is apparent Pretty Rich (TM)#besides being a good battler he's also a skilled jeweler that got a little lucky

"So how long do you think you can keep him from learning how to use his powers in lewd ways? I could teach him aura cuffs, but then you won't talk to me anymore."
“… as much as I hate it, he’d find out sooner or later. He’s intelligent has too much Brilliant Red in him to be otherwise. Once he mastered Aura Spheres, constructs would be next, and given his profession it would be a logical step.” Riley paused for a moment and let out a long sigh. “What worries me more is if he learns how to manipulate emotions through Aura. Empathic projection and manipulation are dangerous, and I consider such practices deplorable due to their manipulative nature.” Not that Riley didn’t know how to use them; on the contrary, he knew he was a natrual at it due to his empathetic nature. He just knew the dangers of such practices as well. “If you are going to teach him - or anyone - that, I suggest you warn them of the dangers first.”

“P-Please don’t mind whatever he’s saying! It’s not really something someone should be doing anyways!” Ok he’s gonna need to burn that book. He can pay the library for the damages once that thing is destroyed.
“Aura what?!” He may or may not have overheard something, and he may or may not be turning bright red.

“.... maybe I should visit Sunnyshore for a few days. Or anywhere else for that matter.” Just... away from Nate. He’s not about to deal with his shenanigans today. Not with that aura. He’ll scold him later for finding out about empathic manipulation.

😳 + Gives him an engagement ring "I found this on the floor, is it yours?"
Who can make my muse blush first? Send in 😳 + an attempt to do so! (Accepting)
A ring? It seems to be rather expensive and elaborate, several diamonds laced in gold. “Sorry, I don’t think it’s mine. However, I may be able to find the owner. A precious item such as this should have some connection to their Aura, enough for me to sense something. Maybe they haven’t left the area yet.”

“Oh, really? I’m glad to hear she’s doing okay.” Lucas probably would have asked more but Riley closed his eyes. He knew enough about aura to know that he wasn’t just shutting out the conversation; he was getting a feel of the island, right? Lucas wasn’t on that level of skill, but he liked to think he could reach it someday.
He and Garnet shared a glance once Riley closed his eyes, and glanced back at him when he spoke up. And the two of them seemed to light up at the offer to see the Riolu and Lucario. That would be amazing!
“Sure, we’d love that! Lead the way.“.
“With pleasure! Just make sure to watch your step. They may be nearby, but it’s off the beaten trail.” With that, Riley turned around and led Lucas and Garnet up through the island, weaving through various stone outcrops and scaling a few ledges here and there. Nothing that the average trainer couldn’t handle, but they were more of a workout than they seemed. Of course, Riley was curious to see how Lucas and Garnet would fare in these conditions.
Soon the three of them found themselves on a rather flat section of the island, although there seemed to be only one large entrance to the area. Seen from above, this particular outcrop was surrounded by sheer cliffs and steep mountain slopes, forming walls to what could be considered a natural arena. In the middle, there were actually a few wild pokemon who came to watch a particular battle between a Lucario and an Aggron.
Unfortunately, Riley couldn’t get a good look at the spectacle, as soon he was quickly and lovingly assaulted by a small Riolu. “Looks like someone’s excited to see me today.” The aura guardian let out a chuckle as he began to pet the young pokemon. “Your senses are getting better that’s for sure.”
“He rushed towards you the immediate moment he sensed your presence, and he looked so cute when he did it too.” Not too far away from the three of them was another Lucario, one who’s aura seemed to match even Riley’s. “Although if he was really paying attention, he would have noticed our guests as well. You spoil him too much sometimes, Riley.”
“Well I did learn from the best,” the trainer playfully retorted, still holding the Riolu in his arms, now stroking his back as the fighting type clutched him tightly. “I hope we weren’t interrupting anything. I wanted to reintroduce you to some old friends. Lucario, this is Lucas and his partner, Garnet. Garnet, Lucas, this is Lucario and Riolu.” The Lucario gave the two of them a friendly “Hello! Nice to meet you,” but stopped for a moment to try and place where she had recognized these auras. It may have been a few years, but Riley was sure that his partner could figure it out, especially now that Lucas and Garnet were here.

*looks for a ring* IS HE MARRIED!?!
“I’m afraid you are going to have to be more specific here, mystery person. There are plenty of men in the world that one can fawn over, and it’s unwise to propose to someone as a complete stranger.” Hopefully they weren’t talking about himself; he had no interest in a relationship with a complete stranger, especially one that might be fragile and superficial.
