Life update, it’s been a while

I'm 29 now, about to turn 30 in september. I have a house, a fiance, and getting a dog july 14th. I worked at disney, and then started teaching. But, my fiance has a well enough paying job that I now just work part time. We go on cruises 2 times a year, in our house we each have our own little office rooms. I've made a whole bunch of friends as an adult. That was something I was scared about. We haven't changed too much, we're into the same things--except now into more. We're more confident to outwardly like those things now. Our relationship with our parents is perfect, we all get along perfectly--and our fiance fits right in. We're still fat, but that doesn't bother us too much anymore. Some days we still hate ourselves, but those days are less and less. We went to therapy. We're gonna go back. We have anxiety medicine now, and it helps. We're pretty ok.

I told a kid in my class the other day that it was going to be the year of the tiger! This kid is a kindergartner, five years old.

Usually there’s some interest when I bring this up, but this kid sort of sat with that for a couple minutes, expression settling into a thousand yard stare. Just as I was wondering if something was wrong, he looked at me with his haunted eyes and asked, in a tone of resignation: “When are the tigers coming?”

I had to quickly reassure him that the year of the tiger was like…an animal assigned to the year, and not another plague or natural disaster! Between the Covid, lockdowns, and huge flood of cicadas last year this child probably decided that this was in line with how the world worked and was mentally getting his affairs in order.
