Case Study #2 - White Privilege, Conclusion
Racism needs to stop. White privilege is just one result of prejudice against blacks. The statistics white privilege bring are appalling, but what is even more shocking is the lack of advantages to the blacks. Western countries claim to have repented, learnt from and changed their racist ways from the past, but has banning slavery seriously extinguished all race issues? Before white people accuse the blacks, claiming that they are largely in tune with their racist ways from the past, please put yourself in their shoes. Look at the statistics. Look at the facts. Look around you. Look at the campaigns and look at the response. Black people are trying to support each other, stand up for each other, because standing together in support is better than standing together in attack. Support for your community is better than being reversely racist to others. I hope the world sees this fact, analyses the statistics presented in front of them and comes to realize they need to get up and make a change one day. But until then, with all these campaign movements, we will try to.

Case Study #2 - White Privilege, What Would Have Happened if Trayvon Martin were White.
He would have had less chance of death. He would have gone to a good university. He would have graduated with a degree, maybe even valedictorian. He would have had a well-paying occupation. He would have had a higher chance of living an amazing life. He would have been able to volunteer at organizations, help others in the future, and make a difference in the world.
But he was black, and so he was 21 times more likely to be shot and killed as a youth. He was twice as likely to be killed while unarmed. He was 22.2% less likely to graduate from college, because we was 3.9% more likely to go to school part-time, 6% more likely to only attend a two-year college, and 13.8% more likely to take remedial classes. He would have earned 72.1% of what white men would have earned. He would have been in the race of the highest unemployment rate in America. He would have been 29.4% less likely to own a home of himself.
See a difference? He wasn't white, and he did not get the chance to live another day.

Case Study #2 - White Privilege, Personal Opinion
White privilege obviously exists in society at this day and age with so many factual statistics pointing the fact that black people are often disadvantaged compared to the whites, be it education wise or even when in the face of the police. However, I feel that this cannot be helped. White's have been told to seem superior to the blacks for probably all their lives, without even actually saying the exact words. Black's cannot change the fact that some of their aggressive behaviour would tend to bring a sense of fear to others around them as it is in man's nature to stereotype and judge even when they do not know the situation in the slightest. What can be helped, though, are the inaccurate stereotypes that cause and further black people's image and thereby, the reason for their seemingly inferior status to the white. Blacks have been discriminated against for the whole of their lives, and so although it will be hard to change, the least we could do is try. The change lies with us, not them.

Case Study #2 - White Privilege, Rebuttal of #BlackLivesMatter
There is no denying, as much as we may try. Racism exists, and it is a dangerous killer.
The fact that Trayvon Martin had instigated a physical assault with the volunteer watchman does not change the fact that black youths are 21 times more likely to be shot and killed by police rather than white male youths; the fact that if you are black, you are 2 times as likely to be shot and killed by the cops while you are unarmed, rather than if you were of whiter skin. Life-or-death situations like these are not to be joked about, but yet it all depends on only one small thing.
The colour of your skin.
No individual in America, the Western region, or even the whole world can deny that influence since young is bound to leave a large impact on you in one way or another. Sometimes this impact lives in the back of your mind, triggered every so often by a keyword, but it might also affect you in ways you were oblivious to your whole life. In America, the white population face this as due to their racist past and common stereotypes formed of black-skinned individuals. There is no denying that racism towards blacks is prominent in especially America.
There is no denying that all of this, although it might not have been the root cause, could be the reason why Trayvon Martin died that very night. With even a little bit of elimination of any of these points, with just a little less racist behaviours in America, Trayvon Martin could have lived.

CASE STUDY #2 - White Privilege (reverse racism), analysis
Racism, no matter the form, is still racism, all should all be put to a stop.
These movements purely show the support that blacks have for their own community rather than hostility towards white people, despite the racism they faced from them for several years. White people's racist behaviour towards blacks does not affect and is not the reason blacks might choose to be prejudiced against whites. We should not find fault in others when they find fault in you, not just for the sake of counter attacks, but truly because it has been your opinion from the very start, unaffected by bias or other circumstances; we are all or own people and deserve our own rights and viewpoints.
If in the case of reverse racism actually existing and prominent in society at this day and age, that would signify that each racial group had equal amounts of power, but white people are still unaffected by the black’s criticizing comments, the white privilege is still very much present and unchanged, and the fact still remains-- in America, black individuals are still twice as likely to get shot and killed by police forces while unarmed, rather than white’s.
Therefore, this society is still left racist towards black people.
The movement “Black History Month” serves to show support for the black community to learn more about their own history and cultural background, gaining knowledge about their ancestors previous hardships and pride for their own people, since most, if not all, of the history learnt in school revolves around the whites. "All history is white history", as often claimed by users on tumblr. Movements created, such as 'Black Lives Matter' and 'Blackout' all merely show the support that the blacks have for their community, nothing to offend the white. If the white people see it as offensive or an attack, well, then that is an issue that lies within them.

CASE STUDY #2 - White Privilege (reverse racism), personal opinion
When a black person acts with what a white person perceives as racism, that is not due to white people's prejudice of blacks, but just pure racism. Movements like Black History Month and Black Lives Matter are NOT evidence of reverse racism, but simple support for the black community, often mistaken as reverse racism to white people.

CASE STUDY #2 - White privilege (reverse racism)
Reverse Racism refers to the act of being racist to a targeted racial group due to the fact that they had first shown the same act to you. This is mostly used in the context of the dark-skinned expressing racism towards white people, one way they tackle the objective of eliminating white privilege. However, many have argued that reverse racism does not exist.

CASE STUDY #2 - White Privilege, (#AllLivesMatter) Analysis
White lives obviously matter enough in Western countries, seeing as if someone can walk away freely after committing murder, but blacks have been discriminated against their whole lives in America. A total of 305,326 blacks were imported and enslaved in America from 1620 to 1866, an enormous number one just cannot ignore. However, by turning the #BlackLivesMatter movement around and countering it with #AllLivesMatter, the problem is being ignored and pushed aside. The worth of white-skinned Westerners no longer has to be brought up as they already reside in a privileged society, but for the darker skinned, it is the opposite all together.
According to online statistics, black male youth are 21 times more likely to be shot and killed by authorities rather than white male youth. This matter of life and death measures the worth of each white person's life compared to the black's. Are we all not human? Do we all not get to have the same opportunity of a second chance? These are the questions people have asked before setting up #BlackLivesMatter.
Therefore, the truth of the matter is, white privilege exists; racism exists, and it is not the white who need protection at this point time, and has never been this way throughout history. It is the black people whom should have this movement, who need this movement. So please, do not take away anything else from them, they have already lost so much.

nigrum celebratione execllence - our goals
Through the promotion and carrying out of this event, we hope to create a safe space for black people to speak their minds, raise their voices, shout to be heard without fear of insult or backlash - and, in doing so, we hope to inspire and motivate black people to take pride in their roots, their culture and their heritage, and showcase their own talents, their own efforts, and the results of their own hard work. In light of many devastating events that have shaken the African-American community to the core, we hope to provide a source of encouragement in these difficult times, and prove to black people everywhere that they are not worthless, that they do not have to lie down and take the insults and discrimination white people are giving them, that they are talented and smart and capable. This event is an event of healing, of rejuvenation; and we hope to make a change, however small, in the negative mindsets others may adopt towards black people.

nigrum celebratione execllence
OUR CAMPAIGN
Our event, entitled, ‘nigrum celebratione execllence’, will be held on the 9th of August, 2016, at the Botanic Gardens Singapore. ‘nigrum celebratione execllence’ can be literally translated to, ‘celebrate black excellence’ - and that’s exactly what will be done in our campaign. We plan to have one night dedicated to black excellence, and black excellence only; on this night, black people from all walks of life are welcome to come and share their talents (however, sign-ups must be done prior to the event - we will not entertain walk-ins). Any and every arts form is welcome and encouraged during the event, whether it be the spoken word (poetry), music, artworks, or visual arts (dancing & theatre) - or simply just coming to share your story on the discrimination you’ve faced, and what it’s like living as a black person in today’s world.
We will also be showing a few films centred on the difficulties faced by black people, as well as how they have overcome these difficulties, concurrently as these presentations go on; you are welcome to walk around and attend different presentations by guest speakers, or simply watch the films we are showcasing and learn more about discrimination against blacks. Refreshments will be provided, and admission tickets will be priced at $10 per person.
