New Project: Illuminate
Hey loves! The past couple of weeks I’ve been working on starting a lifestyle blog which will be sort of a spin off to this blog (glowuptips). So far I’ve created the basic layout of the blog using Wix and settled on the name Illuminate and the slogan will be “Glow From The Inside Out”. I’m hoping to launch the blog by the 18th (maybe later) and I’m hoping to build a team to help me with the blog. (Shout out to @soliloquie for the idea of creating a team. You can check out Soliloquie Magazine’s Website Here). There are six different positions I’m hoping to fill fairly soon. Read on below and if any catches your eye please do apply! If there isn’t anything that catches your eye but you feel you could still help don’t be afraid to contact me and let me know!
Editor | 1-2 People (for now) | The editors job is pretty simple. My goal is to start posting bi-weekly and then weekly, however I would like someone to review my blog post and make sure there aren’t any errors and to offer suggestions on areas that are hard to follow when reading (like this entire post lol). Apply here.
Graphic Designer | 2 People (maybe more) | As a graphic designer your job to start will be to digitally design a logo for the website. *Your work will be credited somewhere on the site. However there will be other graphics to be designed in the future. Apply here.
Social Consultant | Not sure how many people… just wow me | If you are a social media guru then this position may be for you. I’m looking for someone who can help me set up different social platforms and optimise them as much as possible so I/we can drive traffic to Illuminate. Also your assistance will be needed finding new ways to promote and engage with followers. Apply here.
Photographer | 2-3 people (maybe more) | Wix offers free images, however I would like original photos to put on the website. *Your work will be credited. Since the blog is titled Illuminate, I’m thinking I mostly need bright/sunny themed photos (we can discuss more after you’re selected). It would also be great if you could provide tips for the photos I have to take myself. Apply here.
Creative Team | 6-7 People | Basically you will be coming up with content ideas (not exclusively post). *All ideas will be credited. I don’t have any thing else to add for this description right now since the job is really just brainstorming post ideas. Apply here.
Assistant | 1 Person | LMAO. Ok, so take me seriously on this one. I legitimately need someone who is going to keep me on track for this blog and take over for me when I can’t lend my presence. It’s going to be a back and forth thing where we communicate on a daily basis and make sure we’re both managing our blog responsibilities (and our lives if you feel like it) properly. So If you’re up for the challenge apply here.
I hope people are interested and apply. I also hope you’ll reblog this post to spread the word to other people who may be interested. Thank you!

Hi there!
Thank you so much!! Yes, I made it myself with Adobe Illustrator :)

What note taking method do you use?
Hi! Sorry for the delayed response.
I use a personalized Cornell Note Taking method. I find that annotating extra but non essential information on the left column of the page gives me a deeper view on the subject. On this column I’ll usually write extra readings that could be useful, tips made by my professors and even movies I should watch as examples at home (I study 3D Film Production so a lot of movies are recommended to me everyday by my teachers) . I also don’t make a summary at the end of the page.
I’ll probably make a post about my notes if enough people are interested :) Lately I’ve been pretty busy with college (I start class at 7:30 am and most of the time I leave campus at 8pm). So I can’t guarantee it’ll be soon :( But I hope this answers your questions in the meantime.

Health and Hygiene
1. Switch out coffee for tea. You still get your caffeine fix without compromising the calories, sugars, and fats. There are also various flavors and sugar/calorie free sweeteners for tea if you don’t like the taste.
2. Cut all sodas, energy drinks, and artificial juices out of your diet. Switching to just water is insanely beneficial for weight loss, nutrition, and to generally feel better.
3. Use mouthwash before your brush your teeth, not after. Mouthwash helps to break down colonies of bacteria in your mouth, and loosens them from your teeth and gum surfaces. Brushing your teeth is what completely gets the bacteria out of your mouth. Mouthwash before brushing=whiter, cleaner, healthier teeth.
4. Switch to unscented men’s deodorant. Women’s deodorant is generally weak af, stains clothes, and doesn’t last nearly as long as men’s.
5. Switch to men’s razors for shaving your legs/armpits/pussy. It has finer, sharper blades for a clean shave without nicking your skin.
6. Never ever ever use douches, scented pads/tampons, or strongly scented soap for your pussy. It fucks with your natural pH and can cause yeast infections, UTI’s, and just generally throws off your pussy ’s health.
7. Lotion/moisturize your skin (preferably with SPF) every single day. Aside from easing dry and dead skin, it helps you tan better and more evenly during the summer. Using SPF protects your skin from harmful UV rays and makes your skin younger, more radiant, and more flexible.
8. Do a mini workout in your bathroom right before your shower. I like to do 50 squats, and then 30 sec side planks on each side while waiting for my water to warm up. It kills any “no time to workout” excuses, and you can wash any sweat or grime right off immediately after.
9. Switch up your workouts every 3 months to avoid plateuing. Keep your body challenged and excited during your workout.
10. Eat at least 3 meals a day, each with a serving of protein and fiber. Don’t skimp on fruits and vegetables, and try to cut unnecessary starches and complex carbs.
11. Make some bomb ass workout playlists to keep you jamming and motivated when you exercise. Be sure to switch up playlists and songs to keep it interesting, too. I like to use songs I don’t know the lyrics to; I learn the lyrics through working out, and when I know the song word for word I switch it out for another song.
12. Stretch before bed every night for a better nights sleep and less soreness in the morning.
13. Be sure to have an even balance of weight training and cardio in your workouts, to strengthen your muscles, bones, and your heart without exhausting or neglecting any one part of your body.
14. If your insurance covers it, or you can afford to, go to a chiropractor every few months for a regular adjustment. It releases endorphins, fixes your posture, relieves any pent up spinal pressure, and feels just as satisfying as a massage.
15. I like to make sure my feet are smooth, soft, and pedicured at all times. Buy a small pumice stone to rub your heels and soles in the shower with soap and water. Always moisturize your feet after you shower, and avoid being barefoot in wet, populated surfaces (public bathrooms, showerhouses, etc)
16. Before brushing your teeth, dip a cotton swab in some diluted hydrogen peroxide and run it over the surface of your teeth and gums. Hydrogen peroxide kills many harmful bacteria in your mouth. This will leave your teeth cleaner, whiter, and stronger.

requested by @rivkahstudies (thanks rivkah!)
school is hard. it’s kind of a fact. hate to break it to you, but it only gets harder. sure, academics are important, but your mental health is even more so. taking a break and having some fun is crucial to preventing burn out, but sometimes it gets a little harder to do so on a tight budget. hopefully these tips will help you out. xoxo, m

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4
While this post is directed towards students who will live on campus, this list is basically about being responsible as you grow older, which is something we must all do:
On move-in and move-out days, wear comfortable/exercising clothes. You will be hauling your stuff up and down stairs and/or elevators, and you will be going inside and outside. Wear comfortable clothing (AND SHOES) on these days.
If you have a roommate (or more), take a deep breath, introduce yourself, and exchange your contact information.
It’s okay if you don’t get along with your roommate(s) immediately. You are only beginning to know each other. In the words of Lemony Snicket, “I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed this, but first impressions are often entirely wrong.”
…But hey, sometimes they’re not and if you have a conflict with your roommate that you cannot solve by rational discussion, contact your RA and let them know what’s going on.
Never, ever let your roommate (really, anyone) take advantage of you. If they are bringing people over that are making you uncomfortable, let them know! If they do not respect you, your space, or your stuff let them know! If they do not stop, request a roommate change. Please, don’t let them steamroll over you. Do something to solve the situation. Don’t be passive!
Do not make a habit of drinking or smoking. If you already do, now’s the time to reconsider.
Don’t spend all your free time in your room. Explore your campus and find several study spots that you can access when your roommate is having a party on the night before one of your mid-term exams.
Do not feel obliged to drink with your friends. If they can’t respect your choices, they’re not really your friends. Stop lying to yourself.
Living on campus gives you more time to explore your school and the city around it. Go out for a walk! Visit local coffee shops, public libraries, and immerse yourself in the culture of the city around you. You will find very interesting people!
Always be cautious when going on walks alone. Always be cautious in general. Life is not a indie summer movie and you should always be aware of your surroundings.
Take advantage of campus events with free food and free stuff! You know that student activity fee? This is part of where your tuition is going!!!
Always lock your room.
Believe it or not, making your bed after you get up can make you feel more organized and less stressed. (This is coming from someone who has always thought it was pointless to make my bed.)
If you have a stove or oven in your room, always check it before you leave or go to sleep! During my junior year, my roommate left the oven on 5 TIMES over the course of two semesters. PLEASE be careful.

my masterlist of 'how to life’ tips
Cleaning & Tidying
Make your bed in the morning. It takes seconds, and it’s worth it.
Reset to zero each morning.
Use the UFYH 20/10 system for clearing your shit.
Get a reed diffuser and stick it on your windowsill.
Have a ‘drop-zone’ box where you dump anything and everything. At the beginning/end of the day, clear it out and put that shit away.
Roll your clothes, don’t fold them - or fold them vertically.
Automate your chores. Have a cleaning schedule and assign 15mins daily to do whatever cleaning tasks are set for that day. Set a timer and do it - once the timer is up, finish the task you’re on and leave it for the day.
Fold your clothes straight out of the tumble dryer (if you use one), whilst they’re still warm. This minimises creases and eliminates the need for ironing.
Clean your footwear regularly and you’ll feel like a champ.
Organisation & Productivity
Learn from Eisenhower’s Importance/Urgency matrix.
Try out the two-minute rule and the Pomodoro technique.
Use. A. Planner. (Or Google Calendar, if that’s more your thing.)
Try bullet journalling.
Keep a notebook/journal/commonplace book to dump your brain contents in on the regular.
Set morning alarms at two-minute intervals rather than five, and stick your alarm on the other side of the room. It’s brutal, but it works.
Set three main goals each day, with one of them being your #1 priority. Don’t overload your to-do list or you’ll hit overload paralysis and procrastinate.
If you’re in a slump, however, don’t be afraid to put things like “shower” on your to do list - that may be a big enough goal in itself, and that’s okay.
Have a physical inbox - a tray, a folder, whatever. If you get a piece of paper, stick it in there and sort through it at the end of the week.
Consider utilising the GTD System, or a variation of it.
Try timeboxing.
Have a morning routine, and guard that quiet time ferociously.
Save interesting-looking shit to instapaper. Have a set time where you read through the stuff you saved to instapaper and save the shit that you like from instapaper to evernote (or bookmark it properly).
During your working hours, put on your footwear, even if you’re sat on your bed. (Why?)
Have a folder for all your important documents and letters, organised by topic (e.g. medical, bank, university, work, identification). At the front of this folder, have a sheet of paper with all the key information written on it, such as your GP’s details, your passport details, driving licence details, bank account number, insurance number(s), and so on.
Try using StayFocusd and RescueTime (or similar apps/extensions). (I promise, you’ll find that you’re not as busy as you think you are.)
Schedule working time and down time alike, in the balance that works for you.
Money
Have. A. God. Damn. Budget.
Use a money tracker like toshl, mint, or splitwise. Enter all expenses asap! (You will forget, otherwise.)
Have a ‘money date’ each week, where you sort through your finances from the past seven days and then add it to a spreadsheet. This will help you identify your spending patterns and whether your budget is actually working or not.
Pack your own frickin’ lunch like a grown-up and stop buying so many takeaway coffees. Keep snacks in your bag.
Go to your bank and take out £100 in £1 coins (or w/e your currency is). That shit will come in useful for all kinds of things and you’ll never be short on change for the bus or the laundry.
Food & Cooking
Know how to cook the basics: a starch, a protein, a vegetable, and a sauce.
Simple, one-pot meals (“a grain, a green, and a bean”) are a godsend.
Dried porcini mushrooms make a fantastic stock to cook with.
Batch cook and freeze. Make your own ‘microwave meals’.
Buy dried goods to save money - rice and beans are a pittance. (Remember to soak dried beans first, though!)
Consider Meatless Mondays; it’s healthier, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly.
Learn which fruits and vegetables are cheapest at your store, and build a standard weekly menu around those. (Also remember that frozen vegetables are cheap and healthy.)
Learn seasoning combinations. Different seasoning, even with the exact same ingredients, can make a dish seem completely new.
Don’t buy shit for a one-off recipe, especially if you won’t use it all. If you really want to try out a recipe, see if a friend would be interested in making it with you, then pool for the expenses.
Make your own goddamned pasta sauce. Jamie Oliver has a decent recipe here, but the beauty of tomato sauce is that you can totally wing it and adapt the fuck out of it.
Misc
Have a stock email-writing format.
Want to start running, but find it boring? Try Zombies, Run!.
Keep a goddamn first aid kit and learn how to use it.
Know your OTC pain relief.
Update your CV regularly.
Keep a selection of stamps and standard envelopes for unexpected posting needs. (It happens more regularly than you would think!)
Some final words of advice:
Organisation is not a goal in itself, it is a tool. Don’t get caught up in the illusion of productivity and get distracted from the actual task at hand.
Routines and habits will help you. Trust in them.
You have the potential to be an organised and productive person, just as much as anybody else. It just takes practice.

Also, I want to thank and welcome all of my new followers! This has been really crazy, I started this studyblr just to keep up with my college work and have fun while doing it and didn't expect such a response. It seriously means a lot, so thank you and ily!
