Something I'm fond of saying is "The villain drives the plot but the hero sets the tone." Something that's very important about this is that the resolution to the conflicts presented need to match the hero's tone. If your story doesn't believe problems can be solved the way the hero wants to solve them... why is this the hero?
If you want your problems to be solved with brutal catharsis, then your hero should be someone who believes in brutal catharsis.
If you want your problems to be solved with forgiveness and reconciliation, then your hero should be someone who believes in forgiveness and reconciliation.
They don't have to begin there. This can be something they come around to over the course of the story, as they grow and change per their character arc. But by the time of their ultimate encounter with the villain, their values should be the values that drive the story forward.
There's this thing in D&D that some DMs do. Where, when you roll enough damage to deplete the monster's hit points, they'll turn to you and say, "That's a kill. Describe for the group how you take the monster down." And you're allowed to come up with some cool maneuver or something that your character did in order to deliver the finishing blow.
The hero's ultimate triumph over the villain is a lot like this. More than any other part of the story, this moment is their apotheosis. It should be a celebration of everything they are and everything they stand for.
You have defeated the villain; Now describe for the group what form that victory takes.

I have no idea what to expect from a potential Starborn DLC (especially since I'm still not 100% convinced it'll be about the Starborn since that rumor is just based off of a copyright filing) but what I'm absolutely hoping for is for it to traumatize me even further.
Give me the universe where Constellation discovers what you are too early, tries to hold you captive, and you either need to convince them you're still their friend or you're forced to murder them all to keep going. Make me cry again Starfield I fucking dare you.

The Pilot Chapter 2 - Age 7

i've been picking at this fic for almost a year now. it's just taking awhile to do much writing since i have very little time. but, i finally got the next chapter done!
content warnings going forward: i had to change the rating to Teen as the story will have explicit child abuse and neglect.
Amanmesis The Pilot Chapter 2 - Age 7
sneak peek
Sam found a small cupboard under the stairs, just small enough for a seven year old boy to hide in. He needed to get away from everything. Maybe if he hid long enough his stomach would stop hurting. He’d been sitting in the dark for a half hour before he heard steps near his hiding spot.
“Where’s the boy?” he heard Uncle Ben ask.
“I don’t know. At the moment, I don’t care,” his father huffed angrily.
“Jacob, the boy just lost his mother,” Uncle Ben said gently.
“And I lost my wife!” his dad snarled. “But, everything is about Sam! That’s all I’ve heard since Grace…since Grace… for the last week,” his father’s voice became ragged for a moment, before he started again angrily. “‘Will Sam have to change schools? Will you get a nanny?’ I’m the one who’s going to have to change work. How can I maintain my position when I have to look after a seven year old?” his dad demanded. “Grace did all of that. Grace handled all of those things. I have no idea what to do!”
Sam listened to his father shout, and the knot in his stomach grew tighter.
“I’m going to have to step down now because I’ll need to be home more. We don’t have the money to have a nanny! What do people think, we’re made of money because of the Estate? I’m a civil servant, not Walter Stroud!”
“Jacob, calm down,” Uncle Ben said soothingly.
“I had such hopes and dreams,” his dad moaned, “and now they’re all ruined. Everything gone. And, all I’m left with is the boy.”
Sam’s stomach ache grew to sharp pains as he listened to his father’s and Uncle Ben’s footsteps recede. He’d done so much crying over the past week, and he didn’t want to cry anymore, but the tears came again. He fiercely wiped them away, mentally telling himself that only babies cry, but they kept coming no matter how many times he yelled at himself to grow up. After a time, he fell asleep.
In his dream, he heard his mom’s voice, “Sam! Sam, check this out!” his mother shouted over her shoulder. They were skiing on Akila’s mountains in the north during the winter holidays, and his mom was doing a trick on the half-pipe. Sam clapped and hollered along with his dad as his mom came to a stop in front of her family.
“Nice one, Grace!” his father enthused as she gave him a high-five.
“What did you think of that?” she turned to ask her son.
“That was pretty cool, even for you!” Sam said.
Grace laughed, “Such high praise coming from my son, and it isn’t even my birthday!”
