Philosophy Week 12
Civil disobedience is the refusal to comply with certain laws or to pay taxes and fines, as a peaceful form of political government. I myself am okay if a person breaks the law only if it is interfering with a persons personal freedom. Also if it is offending a person or people. I will endorse civil disobedience when the laws are focusing on things like discrimination, genocide etc. Also an unjust law is a code that is not related to moral law. Martin Luther King in his letter from the Birmingham jail had said “An unjust law is a human law that is not rooted in eternal law and natural law. Any law that uplifts human personality is just. Any law that degrades human personality is unjust.” I agree with this because why should people follow or believe in something that is wrong or that they do not agree with. An example of civil disobedience that I agree with is protesting and marches for segregation and inequality etc.

Philosophy Week 11
Classical Liberalism is a political ideology and a branch of liberalism which advocates civil liberties under the rule of law with an emphasis on economic freedom. Karl Marx is a philosopher who agrees with government intervention about a safe society. While John Stuart Mill is also a liberal philosopher who argues that the government should intervene when someone is in danger. I personally agree that we as individuals should be able to do whatever we want as long as we are not harming others. So for this I would agree with Mill on the harm principle. But Marx also makes a good point that laws by the state are needed to keep balance in the world. Even though most people see laws as a way to control us I see it as a way to keep society orderly. People need to see it as along as they are not being forced to do something then they have the freedom to do what they like.

Philosophy Week 9
I am not really familiar with Buddhism but what I have learned is that it teaches us to reject materialistic things as well as they practice meditation. In this day and age I don’t think that it’s possible for people to live the buddhist way. For the simple fact that The United Statuses is mostly focused and based on capitalism then religion and beliefs. People that live here in the U.S are heavily focused on material things such as clothes, shoes, jewelry and money. People nowadays are not going to live without these including myself. So buddhism would not be practiced the same. My self included I want to be rich and I could do that if I was practicing buddhism but it would be meaningless because that is not the buddhist way.

Philosophy Week 8
The cosmological argument is an argument explaining the existence of God which claims that all things in nature depend on something else for their existence and that the whole cosmos must therefore itself depend on a being which exist independently. While the design argument according to William Paley suggest an analogy between a watch and the universe. But I personally agree with both arguments because they make people question their own beliefs. Faith alone can help play a big part in this. Faith will help people stay open to what life can teach us.

Philosophy Week 6
Most people believe that humans are programmed by society and education to perform certain tasks such as learning to speak a language, learn in school or to tie their shoes. But I agree with John Searle regarding to artificial intelligence. The main difference between humans and computers is that we have a choice to do certain things and we can think before doing while computers and artificial intelligence has to do exactly what they are told. Just like they have no feelings unless programmed otherwise but most times is not the case. As well as when we feel love, sadness etc they can't relate and can't feel anything because they have not been programmed to do so.

Philosophy Week 5
So Physicalism basically is the philosophical position that everything which exists is no more extensive than it’s physical properties, and that the only existing substance is physical and that there is “nothing over and above” the physical. But what I believe is that we as humans should think of ourselves as made out of two different substances just like Descartes argued. The mind and body definitely interact with each other but they are not the same. For example a person could be mentally sick but physically healthy. The body is a physical thing and the mind is not. Physicalism does not take into consideration how the mind works and how different it is from our actual physical bodies. Just like I also believe that if we switch our bodies with another person we would still be our selves, As in we would still have our own memories, thoughts, feelings etc just in a different host. Which is just like this show I am watching now on Netflix called The 100.

Philosophy Week 4
Pragmatism is an approach that assesses the truth of meaning of theories or beliefs in terms of the success of their practical application. While Feminist Epistemology is an examination of epistemology (which is the study of knowledge) from a feminist standpoint. It is concerned with the way in which gender influences our concept of knowledge and “practices of inquiry and justification.” So I do believe that feminist epistemology and pragmatism are right for the simple fact that pragmatism and feminism both challenge the view of knowledge as detached intellectual activity. Pragmatist believe in a scientific hypothesis and that each action is decided on beliefs. But I believe that we all start life with natural and simple knowledge which develops with experiences and encounters. Knowledge to me basically means that we have knowledge to understand things we believe in and as we get older our knowledge grows and we learn new things that will either stay with us for life or won't and we will be able to teach others.

Philosophy Week 3
Philosopher Immanuel Kant stated that all knowledge is based on our senses. I agree with this because us as humans first learn from experience of our senses but as we get older in age we learn more not just from our senses. As well as he also believes that there is noumena which is the things in themselves that exist outside our experience which we can never know. But Kant sees phenomena as the things that exist and appear to us in the world. Mathematical knowledge as an example would be true because when we learn math and are comfortable with it we remember what to do with it but when we find it difficult we don’t rely on our experience or what we learned.

Philosophy Week 2
Methodological Skepticism is a mouth full. But it is basically an approach that subjects all knowledge claims to scrutiny with the goal of sorting out true from false claims. Descartes was a person that put all beliefs, ideas, thoughts and mater in doubt. We as a people don't usually believe everything that is told to us. Which for most is a natural thing myself included. We want to see, feel or experience in order to believe. In my opinion methodological skepticism is good in a way because it allows people to have their own beliefs and thoughts. As well as it helps us find the truth in our beliefs. An example of this i guess would be the upcoming election for President of the United States 2020. You have some candidates that are promising tuition free for public colleges or lowering taxes etc. I will able to vote in next years election but for now I'm not sure who I want to see in office because often times these candidates say one thing and do another. So again I want to see to believe that they will do these things they are promising. Along with looking up their background information of course !

Philosophy Week 1
Socrates basically believed that we are all ignorant and live in a world full of false realities and perceptions. A philosopher who seeks knowledge and truth is one who gets a higher understanding a true reality of the world. I say this because they require that knowledge through reasoning. But with that, he is saying that life without philosophy is life without reason. It is full of ignorant smokescreens that keep you trapped. You can still live and enjoy life without the constant need to try and understand or search for something deeper. The constant search for knowledge and truth and reason can be a constant struggle and force or battering of change. Especially when ignorance sometimes is bliss, but in the same token when you hold the knowledge you can regain power and more plethora of choices and can gain both the complex/ true forms of life.

Philosophy Week 0
From my understanding of philosophy it basically teaches critical thinking, close reading which really means a lot of reading with understanding and clear writing. These are tools that seem very important to me for all of life decisions. Philosophy class however was not my first pick or second pick because it mostly just seems like a lot of big words with no simple answer and it just didn't entice me. But I am a very open minded person and life is all about learning new things everyday. So for the most part what would make this course an enriching experience for me is just to see how I can comprehend and use a majority of the tools that we are going to be learning about in this class in my life. As well as I would probably be intrigued about learning about the mysteries of existence and reality and relationships between humanity and nature and society.
