⏮️ Rosa

Rosa’s in school when she hears the news, tapping her pencil and wishing she was somewhere else. But in that moment before, it all comes into perfect clarity in her memory.

The classroom has three tables made of pushed together desks, each with six desks. She sits at one of the desks, her best friend Abby seated across from her, her kinda-friends Georgia, Claire, and Evelyn around the two of them. She’s got the end of her pencil in her mouth - it tastes like rubber and metal.

Of course she knows about Team Plasma at this point. Who doesn’t? But she also knows that Corbin’s going to take them down. That they’re not a threat.

Outside the window, birds chirp. The sunlight filters in softly, casting shadows of the paper snowflakes taped on the glass onto the desks. The teacher is yawning, having just passed out a times-table assignment to all of them. It’s a slow day, a quiet day.

Abby is clearly on her phone across the desk, and Rosa looks at her oddly, tearing off a corner of her assignment and scrawling something on the paper. She pushes it across the table. ‘What’s happening?’ it reads.

Abby looks up at her. ‘Champion matches,’ she mouths, and oh, yeah, Rosa forgot that was happening today. She nods. Goes back to her work.

And then.

Then.

Abby flinches, and looks up at her. “Team Plasma hit the League castle,” she says. “They’re raising their own castle behind it and destroying the building.”

And Rosa has a thought that she still remembers all these years later with shame. It’s not of Corbin, it’s not of the people inside the League. It’s this: the thought that she wants a castle of her own someday.

She laughs. “You’re kidding me,” she says. But all around the classroom, kids are gasping and screaming.

Abby shakes her head. “I’m not,” she breathes. “Team Plasma’s destroying the League building.”

Rosa pales. “Is Corbin okay?” she asks. “What the fudge do you mean, they’re destroying the League building? Is everyone still alive?”

Abby looks back down. “I- I can’t say for sure. The stream’s too dusty.” It’s in moments like these that Rosa wishes so badly she had a proper phone instead of just the one she shares with her brother, the one that stays at home. She feels tears beginning to well up in her eyes, and without thinking, stands up.

She pushes back from the desk and mumbles something about going to the restroom, before running out of the classroom.

Nate’s sitting on his bed, phone in hand. Rosa’s in school still, but he’s staying home sick with the flu. And he’s honestly feeling kinda lucky that he did, because he gets to watch the livestream for Corbin’s champion match! (And because he doesn’t have to deal with the bullies… He’s going to get better than any of them and prove them ALL wrong!)

The livestream is starting soon… That green-haired boy just went, so it should be Corbin’s turn next! But… wait, what are they-

…Pokemon liberation.

Nate doesn’t understand. Why would you liberate Pokemon? They help people. And people, in return, help them. They live and work together. Humans keep them as pets, as precious friends that brighten days. Sometimes, humans battle with them.

He can’t watch. Alder, defeated, pleading and bargaining with the green-haired trainer to not do this. The green-haired trainer, simply waiting, watching the door where Corbin should be entering.

He shakes his head and bites his thumbnail. Stop watching, he tells himself.

And so he does. He forces himself to turn off the phone and put it down beside him, holding his hand over his heart and feeling the racing pulses against his skin like he just escaped a wild animal.

It’ll be okay.

Ask Game - Wheel

A mysterious cloaked individual sits near a large carnival wheel with 13 marks on it. Alongside them is a sign, reading "You will make a friend - Readings for a moment of your time - Results highly achievable within a margin of 24 hours!"

You can't make out what's under the cloak, and you can't seem to pry any details about them either.

All you have to do is spin the wheel.
