Film Photographer Spotlight: Daniel Regner
Name: Daniel Regner Age: 26 years old Location: Baltimore, MD Camera: Mamiya C330 and Yashica C for medium format photography, and an Olympus OM-1 for 35mm Favourite film: Kodak Ektar 100 for color, Ilford FP4+ and Kodak T-Max for B&W
Daniel Regner on why he shoots film:
"I made the switch to film after I took a photography class in college. Going through the process of shooting, developing, and printing with a limited amount of frames added an extra patience and forethought to the photos I produced. Spending more time on each frame I think gave me better results than the feeling of unlimited snapshots I felt often with my digital cameras. With its high dynamic range and wide exposure latitude, film has a look and feel for me that really stands out and separates itself from digital. I was drawn to this organic aesthetic and the more I shoot with it the more I come to enjoy it.”

The best kinds of laughter:
Laughing so hard that your laugh becomes silent and you sit there clapping like a fucking seal
Feeling a six-pack coming up
Tears coming out of your eyes

Scenes from the Great Smoky Mountains
I spent three days and two nights over there. I shot a ton of pictures and I have a lot that I will be sharing with you all. It was a beautiful, memorable, and exciting trip!

Your time lapses capture such beautiful serenity of time in such beautiful bite-size motion images. Does your thinking process behind these moving images differ from your still photography?
The technical and compositional aspects of it are pretty much the same. What influences my decision to create the moving images is if the scene is something that will greatly benefit the impact of seeing actual movement. An example of this is that a single still image of long star trails is beautiful in itself but sometimes seeing the movement of the sky across the horizon makes it a whole different experience.
