As she felt him inching closer, Audrina gulped in an almost instant. He made her nervous and she had no idea why. Its not like she even really knew him, but something about him sent her stomach into a frenzy. “I don’t need options–I’m happy” she looked at him, an obvious air about her not even believing the words coming out of her own mouth. Once upon a time, Jeremy made her incredibly happy. But the times have changed, and so had she. She wanted to experience the world, see new places, and experience what it was like to be with someone other than the only guy she’d ever been with in her entire life.
Ryan played along as though he bought her story, though the truth was he didn’t buy it in the slightest. It had been more than obvious to him that he intrigued her, if nothing else, which was evidence enough to him that she was less than satisfied by the younger Prescott. “Hmm. That’s funny because to me you just seem...bored.” He said the word almost with a hint of seduction. Smirking, he took another step closer. “There are other fish in the sea. Jeremy, he’s just a tadpole. And when you’re ready to start fishing for others, I think it would be fair to say, you won’t have any problem finding one.” Ryan left it no secret whatsoever that he was referring to himself, his smirk only growing wider.

Flipping the light switch off in the bathroom, Audrina saw Ryan standing in his bedroom door way. She felt she may throw up in that moment, “I’m not bored” she laughed, trying her best to make an attempt to make that seem so, “I just had to go to the bathroom” she rose and eyebrow, crossing her arms. She was beginning to realize what Ryan was doing, but she couldn’t help but feel the intrigue it was evoking. She’d been with Jeremy for three years, and truth be told, it had gotten boring, he’d begun to take her for granted, so when a guy actually threw positive attention her way, it felt good–regardless of if it was wrong.
Ryan matched her laugh with a subtle chuckle, sensing his discomfort. “Jer is hardly the best at keeping anyone’s attention, so unfortunately for you, I know better than that.” His brows furrowed as he examined her, clearly trying to feel her out. “I get the sense you’re not the kind of girl who likes dull,” he said, pushing himself from the door frame, taking a step closer to her. “Or maybe you just never knew there were better options available?” he asked, quirking a brow.

As she watched the boy make his way up the stares, she found herself staring without a second thought. “I really have to use the restroom–” she exhaled, standing up from the couch. Looking up the stairway, her stomach was in shambles for some reason that she couldn’t quite pin point. Peering her way toward the restroom at the end of the hall, she found herself gazing through the door way, a half open dor giving her a view of Ryan unpacking, she couldn’t seem to break her gaze. something about him intrigued her, and she didn’t know why. As she heard a sound, she thought it was him noticing her. Clearing her throat, she quickened her step down the hallway.
As soon as Ryan got upstairs, he dug in his pocket for his phone. In the ten minutes since he’d gotten home, friends from school were already blowing up his phone. Tossing his bag on the bed, he scrolled through his messages, only looking up when he felt eyes on him. Looking up to see who the intruder was, a smirk found his lips when he realized Audrina was watching him. Clearly spooked by being caught, by the time he reached the door she was already gone, obviously on her way to the bathroom. Smiling to himself, he remained there, leaning against the doorframe of his room for her to finish. When she came back out, he spoke to her. “If you needed a break from boredom, all you had to do was ask, I’d be more than happy to oblige.”

Hearing him talk, Audrina found herself gazing, almost in awe at his physical beauty, “You live in Manhattan? Thats so cool–I’ve barely been out of Muncie like, my whole life” it was true. Their home town was nothing lose to the size of New York, and Audrina only could dream of seeing bigger and better places. As she heard the words escape his lips, she felt Jeremy squeeze her hand tightly. Was this a game? She wasn’t sure, so she felt it was best to treat it as if it wasn’t, “I–uhm–I don’t know–I mean” she wasn’t sure how to quite respond, as any answer she’d come up with felt like it gave a disservice to her boyfriend. “He’s a good guy–what kind of girl wouldn’t want that” she smiled, finally coming up with an answer that was somewhat less insulting, but it was clear that she didn’t even believe the words coming out of her mouth.
There was something about her that seemed innocent, naive almost, and it became glaringly clear why she was with his brother; obviously she did not realize there were better options out there. "I'm in law school at Columbia," he told her. "But I spent undergrad in D.C. at Georgetown. I've been out this town for a long time now." He turned his attention back to Jeremy, who was still practically fuming that Ryan would have the audacity to carry on a conversation with his girlfriend. "Good guys are a dime a dozen." The words elicited yet another glare, but Ryan completely ignored them as his father spoke up, laughing while referring to Ryan as the rascal of the family. He shrugged, knowing how to charm a room even while maintaining a cocky air about him. "What can I say? I just like to have a good time. And when I know what I want, I do whatever it takes to get it." The words were clearly pointed at Audrina, and though he held her gaze for a moment, he quickly looked back to his parents. "I should take my stuff back up to my room. I'll be back down soon for dinner?" he asked, already standing up. "Don't bore the poor girl to death while I'm gone," Ryan told his brother, shooting the girl a wink before heading up the stairs.

Audrina had been seeing Jeremy for as long as she could remember, but for as long as it had been, his older brother Ryan had always been nothing but a story told at family events that he’d so conveniently missed out on. She knew Jeremy’s condescension toward Ryan, it had never been a secret, it wasn’t until that moment that she realized why. Looking around the room at the families excitement surrounding his return, Audrina sat back, awaiting the bustling of the room to calm, until she heard his voice in her direction. “M–me?” she found herself pointing to herself, unsure if he was speaking to her. “I’m Audrina–Jeremy’s girlfriend”. She wasn’t sure why she felt it necessary to elaborate, as she was sure he could figure it out on his own, but a whirlwind in her stomach caused her to be a little more anxious than usual. There was something about him, or maybe that something was simply that he just wasn’t Jeremy.
As soon as the girl spoke up, Ryan could tell the discomfort on his brother's face. He smirked, knowing inside Jeremy was probably fuming. "Funny, Jer never mentioned you in all of his letters." Of course, his brother had never once written. Or called. Or even texted. There was no love lost between the two, mostly because their parents had poured everything into Ryan that there was so little left to give to Jeremy; and for that, Ryan's little brother would forever be bitter. Maybe he couldn't blame him, but by the same token he didn't care enough to actually hold any kind of sympathy for him either. "Pleasure to meet you," he told her, sitting in a chair directly across from her, an action that still made his brother shift with unease. Truthfully, Ryan was in awe that his brother had managed to land a girl who was so completely out of his league, and it felt like a real injustice - one Ryan wasn't above correcting himself. "It's weird being back here after all this time. Manhattan has been fun, but I guess a part of me will always miss home." It was a bit ovrexaggerated, but he played it up nonetheless. "And clearly I've missed a lot," he said, eyeing Audrina, a devilish grin on his lips. "So tell me all about you and how you ended up with a runt like my brother," he played it off like he was teasing, but both he and Jeremy knew better.

Driving past the sign telling him he was now entering his hometown, a certain nostalgia washed over him. It was hard to believe it had been almost two years since he’d actually come back here, and before that he’d still been restricted to holidays and the occasional break that he did not have other plans. When he’d left high school, Ryan was prepared to leave and never look back; now, though, part of him realized he’d missed it. Pulling into the drive, he took his old parking spot, hopping out to grab his solo bag before heading for the door. As soon as he walked in, his mother rushed to give him a hug and he took in the feeling of being home once more. After his mother finished making over him, he set his bag down to take up to his room later, intending to greet his father and brother in the living room. His father had been more than happy to see him as well, though the same couldn’t quite be said for Jeremy, who had always resented Ryan for keeping him in the shadows, as he put it. But seated close to him was a girl Ryan was very certain he’d never seen before, nor heard mention of. He made his way over to her - much to his brother’s chagrin - and stuck his hand out to her. “I’m Ryan. And you are?”
