would you still love me if I turned into an omnipotent eldritch beast just to ressurect you over and over again until I could create a universe where we could both truly be happy? hypothetically speaking, of course. haha

I was teaching kids today and they got fixated on the usual ‘are they dead now?’ question when I was talking about historical figures. So I was just like ‘Yes, they’re dead now, everyone who was alive in the 1800s is dead now.’ and then one kid was like ‘Except for you’.

I was kinda wondering about that too, especially in the scene where Rumi is confronting Jinu after the awards and he's going on about how it was all a lie, this is all he can be, etc. and Rumi goes "That's just your demon talking!"
And you can basically sub out the word demon for depression. Hell, that whole situation felt like, trying to convince your depressed friend he's not an irredeemable monster but he's too deep in the pit to listen (and also you are depressed and trying to convince yourself of the same thing)
Hey so, I haven't seen anyone talk about it, but Kpop Demon Hunters is about depression right? Like obviously it's just a fun movie about demons, but I feel like there is a case to be made about the marks being a representation of depression.
Like, they've stopped Rumi from living her life properly, caused a rift to form between her and her friends (thus isolating her), it's something she hid for a long time - even as it got worse - until she couldn't. At one point Zoey says something to the effect that she's always been there for her before but that this time is trickier. That makes it sound like Rumi has been battling with depression her whole life (which makes sense given the struggles she would've had with her identity growing up).
Similary with Jinu, the marks remind him of the worst thing he ever did - forcing him to relive it and never move on. Additionally, they mean he always hears Gwi-Ma's voice. Alot of the stuff we hear Gwi-Ma say, especially at the end, are really reminiscent of the kinds of thoughts you get when you're in a bad place mentally ("you never fit in you don't have a family here, you never have" "there's nothing you can do, you're completely powerless" etc etc).
This is obviously not the only reading for the movie, but I do think it can be a way to interpret the demon marks

Sorry I'm thinking about old webbed sites again, but I was just havin a conversation on Bluesky about how the way social media is set up to force artists to churn shit out so fast just to be seen that we don't even slow down enough to really look at what other people are making, and just...
I think the way deviantART was set up was way healthier. By DESIGN. What do I mean by this? Well, think about how things are now. Every major social media has a dashboard people scroll that is endless. That is the main way you encounter art, supposedly by people you follow. It depends honestly. On instagram that's a fuckin' rarity, but I digress.
You have a dashboard, and let's say you only have a little bit of time to look through it. When the time's up, you close the app or tab or what have you, and everything that you didn't see in your scroll now might as well be gone forever. You probably won't ever see it, unless the poster reblogs/reposts/bumps it in some way, during a different time of day when you're more likely to catch it. Algorithms that force constant posting for a boost are bad enough, but so is the fact that everything is missable.
Now take ol' deviantART. It's flooded with AI bullshit now, but BEFORE then, in the ancient times, it was a collection of galleries and real peoples' artwork with a functioning search. Let's say you find some artists you like, and follow them.
Instead of a dashboard to scroll, you could go into your watch list and BAM. There it was, a collection of EVERYTHING the artists you followed had posted since the last time you checked. All there for you to look at at your own leisure. The artist could post at whatever fuckin time they wanted, and they'd only have to post ONCE, and you could still have a chance to see it without having to go to their individual page.
If you wanted to find new artists, no problem! There was the front page with featured works, or recent works- there were sections people could post to based on type of art (traditional, digital, etc.) and if you liked any kind of fandom, you could search AND sort those searches by popular/recent! It required a little bit of agency to go look for other people in your niche, but it wasn't difficult by any means. And some of my best and longest lasting friendships were started on dA by me finding fanart I liked and commenting on it! Or by participating in community-ran events like OC tournaments!
Like, I know instant gratification is a tough thing to beat, but I think if we found some way to just slow back down a little, maybe communities could be a thing again... I dunno. Or maybe I'm just an old kook. Or maybe both! Who knows?
But yeah somethin' somethin' gallery sites are way healthier than twitter for artists.

🇳🇱haribo gummy bear recall in the netherlands due to marijuana contamination🇳🇱
Tumblr media
The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) confirmed cannabis contamination in kilogram bags of Haribo’s Happy Cola F!ZZ candy, prompting a nationwide recall. The discovery followed reports that multiple members of one family became ill after eating the product. The contamination first came to light after the family reported their symptoms to police. The NVWA took samples of the candy, which tested positive for cannabis. The exact cause of the cannabis contamination remains unknown.
the gummy bears have weed in them. they are not supposed to do that.
several members of one family got high which prompted an investigation, and that investigation found weed. and nobody seems to know how that happened!
So far, only three affected bags have been identified, but Haribo is recalling the entire batch as a precaution. An investigation into the matter is ongoing, with close cooperation between the regulator and the candy company. Haribo warned consumers not to eat the 1,000-gram bags of Happy Cola F!ZZ with the production code L341-4002307906 and an expiration date of January 2026. The company urged customers to send the products directly to Haribo for a refund, instead of returning the product to stores.
some emphasis mine.
the bags to avoid are 1kg happy cola f!zz production code L341-4002307906 with expiration date of january 2026. only three contaminated bags have been found so far, but the entire production code is getting recalled just to be safe. if you eat haribo gummy bears and get high, please reach out to the company.
do not return the bags to the store. send them directly to haribo.
Haribo stressed that other production codes of Happy Cola F!ZZ are not affected, seeing products not subject to the recall are safe. Consumers with questions can contact Haribo’s Consumer Service at 076-5878950 on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., or by email at [email protected].
