“Why San Sebastian? Because San Sebastian helped me finish my studies. I chose San Sebastian because I feel that it is my second home. I consider San Sebastian as my second home, and I really enjoy the surroundings, the people, the rest of the members, especially ‘yung mga activities.”

Halting the Domino’s fall
As the detrimental effects brought by the kick up in the nation’s inflation rate rise, daily consumptions shouldered by the local families become heavier and exhausting as they continue to persevere under various unfavorable conditions. Like dominoes that have been arranged in sequence and triggered by the fall of the first one, its rapid tumbling on one another cannot be halted easily by a weak force but should be intervened by huge hands that can break the streak—the government.
Since 2009’s mark of 6.6 percent, this month’s inflation rate has been following its footsteps as it hit the figure of 6.4 percent that put the locals into crisis on goods and services that are staples and part of basic consumption worsened by the TRAIN law. Rice, which is a common good to be purchased by Filipinos, has its supplies on the edge of shortage and in dire need of importation that caused the government to import more goods which is of a higher price. This brought several regions to suffer under the adverse effect wherein a double-digit crisis of 12.5 percent has been recorded on Bicol region. Aside from rice, vegetable is also on burning oil as the Cagayan Valley topped the burdened regions, taking a mark of 35. 6 percent; Bicol hit the top again on recording over 12 percent inflation rate on meat products and 20. 2 percent rate on fish goods. These evidences silently work to raise the cry of laymen in facing this issue that can turn their incomes into losses and their savings into deficits which can soon be an indicator of economic decline.
However, despite these indicators, the government confidently cleared all speculations of the country’s economy being unstable. The nation head even emphasized the surplus of rice supplies as they are ‘set to arrive’ during his interview in his Israel visit. The National Food Authority aims to provide NFA rice which is of a much lower and affordable price but due to inventory issues, it is already infested with ‘bukbok’ (weevil) which instantly gained the public’s distaste. But, here comes the Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol who proved to the public its safety by eating it while in front of a national television interview. As the NFA interagency, the NFA Council even resort into importation from neighboring countries wherein they disputed another one’s claim on who is to be blamed for further delay of one million metric ton of rice request which was only approved last May and is coming late to meet the demands of the locals.
Inefficiency in managing the nation’s wealth, goods and services to meet the demands of the Filipinos has been evidently seen in these moves made by the government which puts them into the fiery eyes of the laymen especially those who are gravely doomed by the rise of prices that even the administration finds difficult to resolve, resorting to providing constant reassurance to the public by ungrounded statements and denial for the sake of calming the expectations of the locals. However, there is nothing that can fix these drawbacks other than the government itself as the people seated have the power to bring this nation back on track again just like how the former presidents shrunk the inflation rate during their service. Having a decisive and accurate control on their execution of monetary policy can be the key in taming the problem wherein the banks, headed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, can execute their risen interest rates that tend to discourage borrowings which can lessen the expenditures made that also reduce the demand for goods and services and eventually, bringing the price into stability while at the same time bringing in more income from the large interest.
The Philippines is one of the nations that the world look up to in the field of economic rise during the last decades. However, due to cumulative errors made and the lack or failure of efforts to straighten what yesterday has curved, decline is born and continues to be a burden among the Filipinos. However, also with the country’s accumulated labor and work, along with the government who never stops to strive for its best, and by the nation’s head who have the credible people behind him that will be of great help in the management, it is not impossible to build a great Philippines again in the future.

Baycats join 23rd Season of CAVSCAA
-----
San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite and 20 other schools from Cavite participated in the opening of the 23rd season of Cavite Schools Cultural and Athletic Association (CASVCAA) at Saint Francis of Assisi College-Bacoor, September 1.
SSC-Rdc will be competing for the basketball men, women, and boys, and for volleyball men, boys and girls.
Coach Reywel Francisco, Coach Wilfred Gabriel and Coach Jaime Punzalan were present to supervise the players.
Charity Tiu represented the school for the muse competition.
Players were asked about what they expect in this year’s CAVSCAA and what their preparation for it is.
Alam rin namin na ‘yung road na tatahakin namin would be a hard one kasi newly formed lang yung team while ‘yung mga kalaban namin had been training for months or a year already. Maliit man ang chance namin manalo and considered kami as underdogs, we are still expecting that we can overcome these challenges,” said Baycats’ Basketball Team Captain Renz Christian Barrientos.

May pag-asa pa ba?

A Sebastinian's Perspective

How was your experience in choreographing your organization's Karakol performance?
“Every year, I always look up into Karakol. Hearing from it, that this time, there will be no more alumni to help us decide in our routine, it became a challenge and an opportunity for me as well. It was really hard to think of what your organization will present in front of a lot of people. Sometimes when I get blocked, I just dwell on our old performances. Our routine is not the best. It's just simple. It's not complicated. Because I wanted the first timers to know what JPIA's originality is. Handling them practiced our patience and courage. I am not a good mentor. And I will admit that I pressured them too much. I get hated but I am not here to be loved, I am here to do my job and that is to teach them. This experience would be the best of me that I will carry throughout my journey. I have learned to value time and people. And more importantly, to trust. Trust that you will and you can."
What challenges did you overcome during your presentation for the Karakol?
“Sometimes, people forgot to show respect for you. They are not in your shoe so they do not understand you. Teaching first timers needs a lot of effort. And, I will admit that there are times when I just want to give up because I always wanted them to be perfect that I forgot that it needs a process. But what breaks my heart is that when someone says the reason why we did great in our presentation is that we have been thought with our alumni just because they saw us with them. It's sad when people do not believe in your abilities and judge you. But life is full of comments. It is their opinions and it is their right, that’s why you just have to respect it. The more negativity we hear, the more we strive to do our best.”
What can you say about your victory especially that it was gained without the help of an outside choreographer?
“We never assumed for a title because all we wanted is to give God a great worship and our fellow Sebastinians a great performance so our sacrifices would be worth it. As all of us would say, "It is a miracle." We never expected JPIA would bring home the championship. We did it without the help of any outsiders accomplishing our routine, and it was all because of unity. That challenge made me realize that you don't need other people to grow and to do better. As long as you are helping one another, without any hate for other organizations, believing in one goal that you are not dancing for a trophy but for God alone, then all will align to your goal. We have built camaraderie with our experience and trust with one another believing it's not about showing people how great you are. It's about showing them that you are as one.”

La Independencia: Ang Noong Pahayagan
-----

Baycats receive rights of blessing
-----
Rev. Fr. James Bumangabang, OAR gave a homily for the Sebastinian coaches and athletes of the college and high school department at the main campus chapel, August 31, 2018.
“Paano at ano ang isang atletang Sebastino?” asked Fr. Bumangabang.
“Dapat laging masaya, handa at laging may disiplina,” a student replied.
From the student’s answer, Fr. Bumangabang elaborated the importance of being happy, ready and disciplined as a Sebastinian athlete.
“Manalo o matalo, remain to be good Sebastinians,” he said.
Fr. Bumangabang explained that a true Sebastinian knows how to accept defeat and acknowledge the winner.
After Fr. Bumangabang delivered his words of wisdom to the athletes and coaches, he formally gave the rights of blessing to the coaches and student athletes who will compete in the Cavite Schools Cultural and Athletics Association and in the Lion’s Cup with the guide of God’s presence and the patron saint of athletes, St. Sebastian.

'IT'S A MIRACLE’ JPIA reaps Karakol 2018 title
-----
After a series of practices, labor on production designs, and sweat-extracting and grinding performance on “kalye” and gymnasium, the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) dominated this year's Karakol Festival, emerging victorious in two categories while emphasizing God’s role in their triumph.
In his statement, JPIA President Russel Rodelas tagged their earned title namely the champion and the Best in “Karakol sa Kalye” as a 'miracle' that came from the 'grace of God' as he and the other senior members found success in bringing life and enthusiasm to the organization.
"It's a miracle! Kami bilang fouth year [students], bilang officers, [ako] bilang presidente, aim naming ibalik ulit 'yung sigla ng JPIA. This time diba, by God's grace, nanalo, in Jesus' name," Rodelas said.
In addition, the Recoletos Educational Assistance for Deserving Students (READS) group took home the Best in Production Design and 1st runner-up award while the Junior Financial Executives (JFINEX) got the 2nd runner-up title.
This year’s Feast of Saints’ highlight event showcased churches in Cavite that were founded and supervised by the Augustinian Recollects from which the Junior Philippine Computer Society (JPCS) portrayed Saint Joseph the Worker Parish at Bailen (now General Emilio Aguinaldo), Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Maragondon exhibited through the performance of Junior Financial Executives (JFINEX), Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish in Rosario showcased by the Federation of Organized Council of Engineering Students (FORCES), the College of Sciences, Arts and Nursing (CASN) instilled the influence of San Roque Church of Cavite City in their presentation, Our Lady of Candelaria Church for JPIA, Saint Michael the Archangel Parish portrayed by the Senior High School Department, San Pedro Apostol in Cavite City was showcased by the Junior High School, while the Recoletos Educational Assistance for Deserving Students (READS) group performed in line with the concept of Immaculate Conception Parish of Dasmariñas, Cavite.
For the first time, the SSC-RdC’s Karakol Festival has featured the interschool competition which brought in the presence of the Cavite National High School and Saint Mary Magdalene School from Kawit wherein the former topped the contest, bringing home the championship, Best in Production Design and Best in Karakol sa Kalye titles while the latter reaped the runner-up award.
The event was held at the San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite, Cañacao Campus which accommodated the whole Sebastinian community as well as the guest performers, judges, and other visitors.
Meanwhile, the fruitful result of the contest has complemented their daily practice of routines as well as the heavy expectations and high standards that the audience have for their squad which are uplifted and delighted to be on their unique curriculum, said a Cavite National High School—Special Program for the Arts adviser.
Salvador added that this year’s Karakol tilt has a fired up intensity due to the evolved and developed effort coming from various organizations compared to the past years.

Lupang Hinirang Noon, Lupang Hiniram Ngayon
-----
