My favorite Benthan looks in M:I compilation!
I've tried to put quick links in all of the posts, but it's getting a bit messy now, so as this collection is going to be over (for now), I am making this compilation so it's easier to find everything scattered around!
And if you are seeing this for the first time, hello! This is me picking one of my favorite looks of Benji and Ethan throughout the M:I series, and I've also written a costume analysis for each of the films. If you are interested, do check out the links below!
The links to all of the costume analyses:
M:I 1-3
Ghost Protocol

My favorite Benthan looks in M: I (9/8): Bonus!
M:I 1-3
Ghost Protocol
Rouge Nation
Fallout
Dead Reckoning
The Final Reckoning
Weeeeeee it's bonus time! Did you think this was over? What's done is done when I said it's done...
Ok this time instead of a proper analysis, it's mostly me finding a reason to do these two looks, plus putting in everything in the previous ones that I missed or didn't have a chance, so it would be even more rambling than usual; if you know what I'm talking about (or not), here we go one last time (this time for real):
Mission Impossible (Bonus)
(spoilers alert for mi2 and m:i fallout)
The theme I went for the bonus was not-Ethan and not-Benji (kind of...), simply because I just can't shake away the beginning of mi2
It's a simple black/grey jacket with a light turtle neck but there's just something with this evil not-Ethan that's...hot
And it's just fascinating to me how much different there is between Ambrose in an Ethan's mask and the man himself
On that note I'm also putting this here because I was always a bit sad that I didn't really mention the precious (not)Ethan with a beanie in the first analysis
(This sweater kind of reminds me of the one he wears on the airplane in TFR)
And somehow Ambrose just decided that Ethan is the kind of sweater paws person. That's a very interesting character study good on you sir
And to balance it up here's the real Ethan in a Beanie
And for Benji I just love...the mask reveal scene in Fallout that was just SO GOOD I CANT EVEN
I love how cold/detached his demeanor was until he asked Ethan how he did under the mask. I mean he literally rescued the person who strapped him to a bomb and then had to pretend to be him, literally had to slip into Lane's mind to think and act like him, so I kind of just think this was not really "him" in that moment
So I believe this bit of reassurance with Ethan is also him grounding himself, trying to shake off the character and get rid of the remnants of Lane on him
With that here's another Benji under a mask!
He look so joyful hitting someone with a car good for you boy
Ok now the analysis are done, the rest is just me putting everything I found funny when going through the entire series again, might or might not be about costumes, just because I want to put it somewhere
love it when braces were still a common thing
There should also be a compilation of Ethan Hunt in a bowtie
really like this silhouette and it almost made it if I were to pick the brown jacket for mi2
There's just something about Benji in his soft silhouette holding a gun if you know what I'm talking about
Just this delicious Ethan when he can't find another way to get Benji back
I'm slightly wondering when Benji decided to go with glasses? He doesn't seem to be really needing them, was it part of the gadgets like in RN?
Ethan "I'm not mad" Hunt
Hmmm I think there's a slight tint of blue on that tie?
Ethan's hand finds Benji's shoulder without him even looking, out of habit grounding technique huh
Just really amazed by how even a chunky swimsuit can produce this kind of shape,,, of silhouette
AAAAAND...that's really all of it! For real this time! Thank you so much again for reading! I hope you enjoyed this bonus section, sending so much love (wave massively

My favorite Benthan looks in M: I (6/8): Fallout!
M:I 1-3
Ghost Protocol
Rouge Nation
Again the following would be some costume analysis and me explaining why I picked these and this time, I had a whole realization. So if you are interested here we go:
Mission Impossible: Fallout
This time I want to really put my thinking process here because the realization at the end was pretty shocking for me :0
When I tried to come up with some early options from Fallout, I could easily pick up some looks from Benji, such as the one with a cute braces and a green 3 piece suit in which he looks like he's going to a wedding:
But when I think of Ethan's, I only have a vague image of something black. It's the second time that I don't have anything particular in mind, the first time was mi2 but I have watched Fallout maybe 10 times more than mi2 so I am genuinely curious how none of the looks really gave me an impression.
At this point I've decided to just list everything he wore, and now, we can have a quiz time(?)
So, Ethan Hunt in Fallout has a total of 14 different costumes. How many of them are pure black?
8/14. From head to toe, pure black.
And how many of them are black/grey + white?
5/14. It's also worth noting here since we have all the grey suits laying out together, that in Fallout Ethan wears grey every time he pretends to be someone else (pretending to be a black market trader, pretending to be Lark, pretending to be a "civilian")
I don't think it's a coincidence, I think grey as a "lighter" black softens his features and leaves a blurry feeling, which is intentional for the idea of hiding true identity/nature.
Another thing that supports this theory is that (spoilers alert) Walker/Lark wears LOTS of grey throughout the film:
Basically in Fallout if Ethan's color is black, then Walker/Lark's is grey, as someone who's been lying and pretending to be someone else for half of the film.
Finally coming back to Ethan, if you are doing the maths... How many costumes did Ethan wear that ACTUALLY had any color?
1/14. Yep, only one. This blue-ish shirt he wore right after Walker escaped in London.
Damn, before doing this I already knew the color palette of Fallout is somewhat monochrome, but I have no idea it was so extreme.
So back to my choice; there wasn't that much to choose from, most of them are quite similar to each other. I do like the leather jacket in Paris with the riding gloves:
But I have done the braces Benji that pairs with this look a while ago and I don't really want a repetition...so sadly this one had to go.
I have also considered the wedding(?) Benji that I mentioned at the beginning, but this had only appeared in the film for about, 3 minutes and it doesn't really seem fair,,,
So eventually I picked the winter clothes when they were in Kashmir.
My favorites: 1. Ethan's turtle neck sweater 2. Benji's wearing a bowtie even in this situation and 3. The gloves!!!
Here are some close-ups of the gloves, I really like the gloves
Some other details:
Left: I did the drawing with Benji's vest being slightly green...but now looking at this I am not sure anymore... maybe it was actually black or grey???
Right: I am very surprised to find out Ethan was wearing shoes with laces in this. I'm just kind of worried considering he runs so much,,,
Finally I'm putting this Ethan in a soft grey sweater here for your comfort.
And that's it for Fallout! Phew I realized I've actually reached the maximum pics allowed in one blog, cutting it very close (wiping sweat away).
As usual here are the quick links to the previous costume analysis, and thank you so much again for reading! Lots of love and see you next time!

My favorite Benthan looks in M: I (5/8): Rouge Nation!
M:I 1-3 are here
Ghost Protocol
Did I say I would pick one set of looks from each of the films? I lied. /unapologetic
Again, the following would be the costume analysis and my ramblings and some excuses for breaking my rules, and because I REALLY LIKE Rogue Nation this is going to be a long one...so if you are ready let's dive straight in:
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
Ok so first of all,
I love you. Thank you so much for literally everything I'm crying
Secondly, this time, there's no thinking process at all. The car chase looks were actually what made me want to do this challenge in the first place, and then I quickly realized that there's no way I can let the Ethan certified Nice Tux™ go away.
But before we go straight to the two I picked, we can first have a look at the other costumes that pique my interest:
The record shop Ethan
This one is quite interesting for me because it's uncommonly casual. It's not the usual utilitarian bomber jacket and sweater combo that Ethan usually goes for, but a pretty casual olive green jacket that's slightly crumpled. Considering the context, I would even say this might be Ethan's personal clothing when he's not on a mission, as this was supposed to be a simple information pick-up.
2. The CIA Benji
So in the CIA, Benji was wearing a light grey jacket (hanging on his chair) and a slightly blue shirt with a striped tie. I am just putting this here to complain that both the CIA and the IMF have the most boring dress code at all times.
But in this scene, it was the first time Benji's wearing less than every other person in the room. My explanation is that he and Ethan probably did a lot more missions together before the demolition of the IMF, so he is in better physical condition, which also explains how relaxed he is in Vienna compared to Ghost Protocol. Speaking of Vienna...
I just want to point out what a shape he is. Just look at that.
Another detail is that his shirt is not even a simple white shirt; it's a slightly pleated(?) one that looks more expensive than my kidneys or something. I guess at least the CIA is paying him well
While Ethan looks like he's going to a funeral (which is not entirely wrong...you know)
He removed the tie shortly after going backstage but I kept the tie on, because it's also rarely he keeps the thing on at all so why not?
Btw I realized only as I'm writing this analysis that the lapel of Ethan's suit is actually peaked plus it's silk. That's why you should always do the research before instead of after everything. (I KNEW he's too dramatic to go to an opera with basic black suits goddamnit)
Another thing I quite like is Ethan's hair length in RN; it was something shorter than mi2 and GP but definitely longer than most others, which gives this lovely fringe and a slightly puffed feeling, which is really cute.
And before I started with the second outfit that I chose, let's have a look at these:
At first look I thought Benji's suit was the same as the CIA one, but then on a closer shot I realized that this one is striped and more of a tan color while the CIA one is simply grey. And I have no idea why Ethan decided to wear all dark colors under the burning sun of Casablanca, this guy is insane
Also I don't know if you noticed before because I haven't, but Benji was wearing these blue sneakers
I kept thinking about the costumes in Casablanca because I think in terms of plot, these are supposed to be Benji's personal clothes when he came to Vienna, so these are the clothes he wears when he travels! I will go into details about this when we talk about the car chase look very soon, but before that I had to put Ethan with this purple silk shirt here.
I don't think Ethan cared much about his outfits during the six months' run from the CIA, and judging from his line in Vienna that he prepared Benji's change of clothes, I'd say he got all of these ready before the opera. (I don't know mate but for six months he's been very unkept but the moment he knew he was going on a mission with Benji he got these fancy suits and purple silk shirts I mean there's got to be a reason for that. Plus in this shot he literally walked away from Ilsa to stand next to Benji. You can draw your own conclusions.)
FINALLY it's the lost tourists' look! I love these so much that I literally started this entire challenge for them:
I'm convinced that Benji prepared the clothes for both of them (I'm biased but yeah). I'm about 99.99% sure that Benji's wearing his own clothes, I've also considered if Ethan was wearing Benji's travelling shirts but this one could or could not be Benji's style, not super sure. Anyway if this one is from Ethan's then he picked something to match with Benji's.
Benji was wearing a different sneakers, an orange one to go with his T-shirt.
From here we know that Ethan is not totally mad, the inner layer is still a T-shirt, and from another shot we can see it's with prints, which is not common for him.
(Btw just slightly off track again. When Ethan literally just woke up from death his hands were on Benji's chest for quite a while, and Benji was definitely noticing)
We talked about Ethan's hair before now let's talk about Benji's. THIS is my absolute favorite part of Benji's look in RN. *chef's kisses*

...and I've definitely written too much this time. To wrap this one up I am nominating one last candidate:
I just love the color and the vibrancy of this red jacket and the cute shirt, alas the competition was simply too great this time
And that's all for Rouge Nation! Phew it was taking me much longer than I thought to get this out, but I am having so much fun. I hope you enjoyed it too!
I'm also putting the link to the analysis of MI1-3 and Ghost Protocol here for a quick refresh if you are interested.
Again thanks for reading this much and see you next time! :D

Oh, how I adore Benji Dunn.
The man went from sitting in the tech room, occasionally helping Ethan, to be Team Leader.
And yes, he was inspired by Ethan but he damn well did the work himself! It was his brilliance and his hard work.
He’s been through hell, several times and yet remains kind and trusting enough to get a dangerous assassin to trust him on sight.
He comes up with one hell of a prison escape plan.
His loyalty is to his friends, his first priority is his friends, the IMF and everyone else can go fuck themselves, he does it all for his friends.
He can shoot straight, but rarely picks up a gun. He can drive a boat, and drive a car, and play another role convincingly enough to fool others, and start a car crash and read morse code and defuse an uncrackable bomb.
He admits to nightmares, and yet still carries on, because his friends need him.
He keeps everyone in touch and together when they’re apart.
He is always there for Ethan. He can always find Ethan. He will always help Ethan, and it is always his choice.
When the world is cold and dark and pointless for Ethan, Benji makes it worth living.
Ethan Hunt loves him.
Benji Dunn is the best and deserves all the love

i think the thing that makes me love the mission: impossible movies so much is just how grounded they are.
i don’t mean realistic because. come on. but in between the insanity and the death-defying stunts the characters always take a second to look at one another and be like “you okay?” or “hey that was so cool! :D” and i think that’s what elevates them for me. the team genuinely feels like a group who all like one another and enjoy each other’s company. they’d be equally comfortable saving the world together or teaming up for bar trivia, and the level of enthusiasm for one another would not change at all.
the crazier the action, the more the team needs to be actual friends. this is the thing that takes an action movie from good to great.

All I want to do is write. And also run a bit. But mostly write. I write all kinds of things for all kinds mediums and it frustrates me that I have to do the day job and do the shopping and feed myself and clean and generally do things when I could be writing.

some details i really like from hot fuzz :-]
nicholas as a kid.........
the team's personal tastes in tea and coffee
this face nicholas makes when he's being touched which makes you appreciate even more how comfortable he is with danny later in the movie
two classics: the c word being the only swear word that's not censured and the white board in the background describing tony fisher
angel's pen is the only blue one !
i know that the spanish shaun of the dead dvd is a pretty known easter egg, but i'd like to point out that the sticker is conveniently placed on simon's face lol
aaaand nicholas being discreetly interested in danny's flipbook animation
there's probably morre but these were the first that came to mind

the thing about the mummy movies is that you really spend most of the time thinking "wow brendan fraser's character is so cool" or "man oded fehr is so mysterious and heroic" when the fact of the matter is that these two
are the absolute most batshit insane heroes in the entire franchise
these two are intellectual loner siblings with archeology backgrounds who read and speak ancient egyptian, hire a dude directly out of prison to take them to a lost city of gold, and fight mummies literally with their bare hands. twice.
no one in these movies stands a chance against the carnahans. frankly they're lethal in how willing they are to make the absolute and most undeniably deranged decisions. jonathan pickpockets a dude on fire. evy's resurrected from the dead and immediately remembers how to use sai. they're racking shotguns from a cliff in this scene and then proceed to blow away half the antagonists.
rick and ardeth should be so lucky
