Melussina: You could have died, Davin!
Davin: I wasn't hurt that badly. You said all my bleeding was internal. That's where the blood is supposed to be!

“And how can she call me innocent, when she knows… When she knows everything else I have done. And not done. Every wretched, pitiful and cowardly act I have ever committed. The people I have hurt. The things I have not dared. Everything that I have taken from others, and all that I have been too petty, frightened or greedy to give. No, Medamina, I am certainly not innocent.”

where can I find the Shamer’s Daughter musical? I really want to see it and listen to the songs.
Unfortunately, you can’t really find it anywhere. It’s not online and as far as I know it hasn’t been recorded. Just cross your fingers that they set it up again somewhere close to you.
The songs from both of the musicals are all on youtube! Here is a playlist.

I agree with your commentary on the movie. Especially on Nico and Dinas friendship, which is one of my favorite parts of the series. It seemed kinda rushed in the movie; like they met, she saw his past, , and then they ran away. Also it really confused me that Dina actually shamed Drakan, because she was never able to do that in the book (as far as i remember). It was really aestheticly pleasing though, and at times i really got the same feeling from movie as i did from the book
Yes, definitely! It was strange. “Hey, I just met you. I saw your past and you puked. We fought a guy and I now trust you with my life and we’re best friends. Now give me a piggyback ride.” I understand that they had to cut a lot to make the movie possible, but they could’ve developed Nico and Dina’s friendship more. (And maybe not...killed him off half of the movie. They can save that for the last one.) When the movie was over, one of my friends who haven’t read the book asked me “They end up together, right?” and I was completely blank as to who she meant. She meant Nico and Dina. Obviously people can ship whoever they want, but you’re not supposed to be thinking that after the first book/movie.
The Drakan stuff was just weird, and I didn’t comment on it in my post because I have no idea what to think about it. Like, I don’t even know what they want us to think? Are we supposed to believe that Drakan feels guilty about everything else that he has done, but not these murders, and that’s what Dina saw, or is Dina supposed to be some kind of super-shamer? (Does any of this makes sense?) Drakan isn’t ashamed, and he doesn’t feel guilty about anything, that’s a huge part of his character, and it’s what makes him so scary, that he can do anything without remorse.
I agree about it looking very nice, it was very well done. It did have the same tone as the book, which was nice. One thing I think they did really well was Dama Lizea. The scene where she attacks Dina in the book is for me one of the most iconic scenes, and it translated so well to screen. She is just as creepy on screen as she is in the book, if you ask me.

finally! thoughts on the movie:
(i decided to use capital letters because i realized it would be easier to read for u guys)
It didn’t live up the book or the musical. I’m sorry, but it needs to be said. It was a good movie, I liked it and I’m excited to watch the next movies, but it did disappoint.
I kept expecting them to burst into song. I listen to the musical all the time, and it was weird that they were suddenly not singing. When Dina said “Se mig i øynene, så ved jeg at jeg tør.” (or s/t) I nearly cried because it reminded me of when Rosa said the same thing to Dina in the musical.
That being said, the soundtrack was so on point. I’m not a person who usually notices things like soundtracks in movie, but this one really got my attention.
They made some serious plot changes that I seriously disagree with. I don’t even know where to start.
They removed so many of my favorite scenes!! I go into a few of them later but one of them is in the beginning, where Dina plays with the other girls, and she is allowed to propose to the princess, and she is doing really well, but then they just dump the water(?) on her head anyawy. She didn’t attack Cilla just because Cilla was being rude, she had a bigger reason.
Another scene I really didn’t wish they remove was the scene between Nico and Dina, where Dina removes her apron to help Nico clean up. This is such an important scene, to Nico’s and Dina’s character (and to my heart.) It establishes Dina as a nice and caring character, and it shows Nico that someone cares and is willing to help him. It’s such a shame it wasn’t in the movie.
Another one of my favorite scenes: the scene where the guards come into Maunus’ house looking for Nico and Dina, and Nico is hanging in a rope outside the window. that’s so badass. I know we kinda got that with a short clip of Nico climbing in the movie, but it’s not the same. It was one of the scenes I was most excited to see, and it was just not there.
Adela married to Nico’s dad????? What?? Okay, I guess that would be easier to explain than “Adela is the wife of Nico’s dead brother.” but it removes Nico’s “””motives”””. in the book little Bian would be sovereign next, so killing him, his dad and his unborn nephew would make Nico the next sovereign, but in the movie that would be him anyway. What was the supposed motive in the movie? Je was drunk and he....didn’t like them?
Let’s be real here, they butchered Nico’s character completely. It’s not Jakob Oftebro’s fault, I love him to death and he’s a great Nico. but Nicodemus Ravens is my favorite character of all time, and I don’t like the way they wrote him. Nico is a very complex character, that’s what makes him so great. He’s not s nice as he is in the movie, where all the not-niceness is in the flashbacks. His relationship with maunus is so important, how they fight but love each other like father and son, and it was just not there in the movie either. Nico is a bit of an privilged, scared asshole and that’s an important part of his character that they just didn’t explore at all.
The Dina/Rosa frienship was nice. The scene where Rosa looks into Dina’s eyes and they kinda become friend was a big awkward, but I think the actresses had good chemistry and the way Rosa came to help Dina later was very sweet.
The ending was good. I don’t really like that it was Dina that somehow made everyone realize that Drakan was the murderer in the end, but it was alright I guess. (And Drakan wasn’t written that well either...) But other than that the ending was good. I really liked the scene were Nico nearly killed Drakan but couldn’t, because that’s the truest they had been to Nico’s character in the entire movie, and when Rosa stabbed him. (That scene was in the book...wonder why I liked it so much...)
TL;DR: They should’ve stuck with the book.
Thoughts? Agree or disagree? Please, I need someone to discuss with.

adragonseidr:
Yep, yes, all of this.
There is the possibility that they’re using him a lot in promotions because he’s more well-known than most of the other actors, but still, it’s worrying.
that's a possibility of course, but then i would argue that maria bonnevie should have had her own poster too
i have limited knowledge on danish actors, but i know that in norway and sweden maria bonnevie is pretty well-known, and whenever i hear anything about the movie over here (in norway), they always mention her
lol can we talk about the fact that out of all the characters they could have chosen to give their own posters, they chose three men?
Why does the weapons master need a poster? Wouldn’t giving Rosa one have made more sense? And giving Melussina, the pharmacist or Dama Lizea the last poster would have made at least as much sense as the weapons master of all people getting one.
I don’t know. I just think it’s suspicious.

i know!! i was thinking this too. it's so typical. even when a movie does have more than one token female characters, they still only promote the men and the one girl they kind of have to promote. it really leaves a sour taste in my mouth. the weapons master is cool and all, but this is making me afraid that he will have a bigger part than rosa and melussina? and if that happens i'm gonna be so disappointed.

i only have two things to say about those posters
where is my rosa poster?? are they really making her a very minor character in the movie? because they better give my girl the screentime she deserves
isn't the one with drakan a spoiler? because we aren't supposed to know he's the bad guy right away, are we?
