I really like to think that Odysseus and Penelope after they first met and fell for each other were so fucking stupid I their ways of communicating. No, not in the meaning of blushing, stattering, or nervous sweating.
But in the meaning of creating unnecessary complex long schemes just to make an "accidental" meeting. Penelope will be in her palace making this grand plan that involves at least twenty people who do not know they are part of this yet to get Odysseus in the garden to meet with her father just in time for Penelope to twist the conversation the way that her sister will suggest to take a walk, just so they could "accidentally" stumble upon Odysseus who did not find their father in the garden, because just so happens he left an hour ago to the other side of the city after Penelope reminded him of a duty he had to do there, so now Penelope can't not offer to guide Odysseus to the place where he can wait, so they can walk almost alone for twenty minutes.
While odysseus is making an equally complex plan involving bribing a bard to play a song that will remind Tyndareus of the story from his youth, that Odysseus found out about beforehand, where he recieved a special gift for his palace, so Odysseus can lead the conversation the way that Tyndareus makes an offer to show Odysseus the place where the gift from the story is displayed that just so happens is located perfectly near the temple that Penelope usually visits during this time of a day. So when they finally get there a slave will be there to approach Tyndareus telling him that there is some urgent problem with one of the Helen's suitors (that Odysseus may be or may be not in fault of), so he has to leave Odysseus for himself just in time for Penelope to leave the temple, accidentally stumbling upon Odysseus.
They spend at least couple of weeks like this, then they finally have their "accidental" meeting, they talk for an hour, never saying what they mean straight, playing some fucked up mind game that from the outside look like a normal small talk, that actually sonsits of like seven more layers of hidden subtext.
And both of them leave the conversation with the exact thought of "I've won, now she/he has to marry me"

First time Poseidon even tried to comfort Ody in this au was a month after he brought the mortal to his palace. And yes Poseidon does have the ability to turn into an eel.

Re the Ody that drowns the suitors, if I may(edit: oops this got longer than I wanted):
With every step Odysseus takes up the hill his palace rests on, he can feel the buzzing, humming tingle of Poseidon's godly ichor seep through his skin and into his blood. Distantly, through the unending hatred and fury, he feels the ocean lapping at his heels, feels the seas follow him, but not in a way that would indicate Poseidon's influence; rather in a way that felt familiar, as though an army at his back.
In this world, Antinous doesn't get his musical number, because, as Ithaca's rightful King stalks the halls of the palace he built as a monument to his love, the oceans follow at his command, fuelled by that rage and hate. The rest of the island is protected by a dome of air, but these invaders won't be so lucky.
Penelope.
Telemachus.
The maids.
These are the only ones his anger deems worthy of survival, all the others are met by rushing walls of water with burning eyes in their depths, and the sound of a voice, deep and resonant and filled with endless malice, telling them how wretched they are as the burn of saltwater fills their lungs.
As Odysseus feels the 108th life be snuffed out, as he feels no one else in his watery grasp, he lets the oceans recede, taking each and every corpse with it.
He's so tired.
Telemachus runs through the waterlogged halls, past dripping drapery and tapestries, and finds the unconscious body of an old man in the main hall. Cautiously, he flips the man over with one end of his spear, readying himself to fight, but he gets no reaction.
Worried, he picks the old man up, carrying him in his arms to the servants' quarters and sends for his mother.
Penelope enters the servants' quarters to find a ghost laying asleep in one of the beds. Its frame gaunt, its face sunken, its robes tattered and stained with blood both crimson and gold.
She draws closer and tentatively places a hand on the figure's shoulder, flinching slightly as her fingers find something solid.
As the maids help clean the figure up, help to dress his wounds and wrap him in clean fabrics, all doubt is erased; this is her husband. There are new scars, ones she's never seen before, but the scar on his eyebrow is still there, the small cluster of freckles in that very specific shape that she always loved to pepper with kisses is still there, the mole behind his left ear is still there.
Odysseus sleeps for 30 hours straight, utterly dead to the world. Telemachus calls Athena at one point, begs her to return to Olympus and ask Hypnos to make sure he's okay, and she complies; she tells him that Hypnos told her that Odysseus needs this rest, and that the god of sleep promised to ensure it was restful and dreamless.
When Odysseus wakes, terrified he will find himself back on Ogygia, he's met with a voice he'd been longing to hear for 20 years.
"Welcome home, my darling husband. How I have missed you so."
