A First Look at the New Sims Rebrand Video
Looking to the future
Despite some small snags in communication, it's still full steam ahead for the series. When asked if The Sims 4 would be getting some kind of major overhaul a la World of Warcraft or Runescape anytime soon, Pearson doesn't appear to be super jazzed about such a large-scale undertaking just yet. "We certainly entertain everything," she tells me. "I mean, we talk about all the different paths forward and what makes sense and what to do with The Sims 4 or any of our games."
I think that The Sims continues to be this kind of funhouse mirror to the world, and that's why it keeps growing and evolving and shifting and changing.
Pearson said there are "so many different ways" to go about potentially giving The Sims 4 some sort of technical or graphical overhaul, and pointed towards the current ongoing effort to tidy up a decade of lingering bugs through the game's regular laundry lists fixes. "I think it's a question of looking at all those pieces and parts and saying 'Which pieces really need the biggest overhaul? Can we do them in parallel? Do we need to do that fundamental scaffolding?'"
For now, Pearson says the priority is "a continuing audit of what does the game need right now? What is the game going to need in a year or two years? And what is the best way to get to that thing?"
So it doesn't seem like anything major is coming our way yet, but honestly I don't particularly mind. A focus on patching some of the more lingering issues up feels like the best direction to take right now, especially as we could be sticking with The Sims 4 for several more years at this point.

I’m back from my holidays and this week, Lina and I would like to show you what we have been up to during this year’s Hackweek, as well as new baby animations! 👶 More Baby Animations, our goal and challenges 
While I was away on vacation for most of July, Lina and I still managed to create a good amount of baby animations. Like always, we brainstormed first and then made a list of all the baby animations that we would need for the game, from the highest to the lowest priority. For now we’re focusing on the essential animations (holding, feeding, playing, changing the baby…). Once all of these are done and approved, Lina and I will move on to the next required animations for the game, and so on. Of course we’d love to add more cute animations and variations (and we have many many ideas), but we need to create all the basics for everything first if we want to be ready for EA next year! ⭐
On the technical side, this time Jérémie had to create a feature that lets us anchor a Parafolk to another one. We already had something similar working for objects, allowing characters to hold things in their hands, but not for holding another Parafolk! 
You might have noticed that we left space between the Adult Parafolk’s hands and the Baby. It is not a mistake, it is to prevent meshes interpenetrations when the babies wear clothing. As you can imagine, creating alternative animations depending on each piece of clothing would take too much time. (You will also probably ask haha, so yes, Sasha is indeed playing with a wooden spoon. 😂 I promise this will be updated in the near future. 🥄💨)
🤸‍♀️ 2024 Animators’ Hackweek
The Hackweek is our annual week-long event where everyone can work on anything they want (as long as it is Paralives related haha), even if it’s not a priority. I am always very excited about it, and this year was no exception! We thought it would be nice to add little animations that could help give more life to our Parafolks. I believe these will greatly contribute to the game’s charm and liveliness and I can’t wait to add more of them before Early Access! Here are the animations we did:
Lina created a cute “Look at Nails” animation. It could be used in the Paramaker, or in the Live Mode if your Parafolks have nails equipped! 
She also made a “Back Pain” reaction animation. This one could be useful for older Parafolks, or ones that have just woken up or are sore after too much exercise! 
On my side, I made a “Step on Something” animation. I was thinking of using it randomly sometimes when your Para is walking on the sidewalk haha. Having dog poop on the streets could be fun (or not). It could also be used if there is something else spilled on the floor, like food, dirty puddles of water, vomit… 
And finally, I also made a Whistle animation, but I can’t show it to you yet, as it is related to Andrei’s Hackweek work too! 👀
🔜 What’s Next? 
Once we believe we have enough content regarding babies for the Early Access release, Lina and I will start working on the Toddler animations! Because they are older, we will need a bit more animations for them as they will be able to interact more with their environment and other Parafolks.🎈Later on, we will add sounds and special effects to compliment animations, like, for example, a censored blurred effect for when the baby is being changed!

🐸 A Few Words About the Animations 
For these and like always, Lina and I brainstormed first and then made a list of all the toddler animations we would need before Early Access, from the highest to the lowest priority. Right now we’re focusing on the essentials, like basic social interactions and needs animations. We still have a good amount of animations to create for this life stage, and we plan to continue working on these for a good part of November as well!  For the Changing Animation, we will add a blur effect on the Toddler later on when the interaction is happening. You may also have noticed that the Toddler’s bed doesn’t have sheets yet, we will add them later with proper animation on it!
Finally, please note that everything shown today is still a work in progress and might change and evolve in time, some of these are already being tweaked as we speak. ✨
🔜 What’s Next? 
Once we have a good base for toddler animations, we will switch our focus to Kids! We are pretty excited about them because they will be able to do a lot more than Toddlers.🎈 With programmers now actively working on the Live Mode, we will also be able to test more and more animations in-game with their gameplay.

Hi, it’s Alex!
Over the past 2 months, I’ve been spending many hours a week playing Paralives, uhhh, I mean testing the build mode thoroughly to make sure the experience is smooth. While doing so, I made the classic life simulation game mistake I’ve been making since I was 12 years old: deciding to build something that is just too big and that I’ll never be done furnishing and decorating! Even though it could have been more complete and polished, I’m still proud to show you the result today: the Paralives offices of my dreams!

☀️ A Few Words About the Animations 
We had a lot of fun working on these during the past few weeks! Lina has just finished the last of the toddlers animations (at least for now), so I added them at the end of the video as a nice little bonus. On my side, I’ve been switching to kids animations!🎈 A bit more brainstorming is planned to test which animations we could reuse from the adults, but we are veeeeeeeeeery excited to work on this life stage. 🤸‍♀️  Regarding the visual effects, like the missing water and bubbles for the bath animations, they will all come later this year! 🛁 
Finally, please note that everything shown today is still a work in progress and might change and evolve in due time; some of these are already being reworked as we speak. ✨

Project Rene

Project Rene (temporary title: City Life Game with Friends[2]) is the working title for a "next generation Sims game" widely speculated in the Sims community to be The Sims 5, however, it was announced at investors day September 17, 2024 that The Sims 5 is not being developed.[3] Project Rene was officially unveiled during Electronic Arts's "Behind The Sims Summit" on October 18, 2022 by Lyndsay Pearson, Vice President of Franchise Creative for The Sims team.[4]
The name "Project Rene" was chosen to "be reminiscent of words like renaissance and rebirth to represent the team's renewed commitment for The Sims' bright future."[5]
Project Rene is set to include single-player and online multiplayer capabilities and to be compatible across various platforms.
Pearson stated that Project Rene was "very early" in its development, and that development on the project would continue "over the next couple of years." No official release date or official name for the game has been announced, but it will be free-to-play for everyone like The Sims 4.
Planned or revealed features
Project Rene's reveal during the "Behind The Sims Summit" showed a few features present in the project at that time. Project Rene was shown to have a detailed object designer called Workshop, which included texture patterns, a color wheel, and the ability to customize smaller objects on a larger object, such as controlling the placement of throw pillows on a sofa.[4]
Project Rene's sneak peek during the "Behind The Sims Summit" showed the ability to select apartments, implying that apartments will be available in the game at launch rather than added in a later expansion pack.[6]
