elden ring modern au has literally never once occurred to me. what could a modern au possibly even look like

from what i've seen, it's mostly stuff like the golden order being a massive company that the demigods are vying to control or whatever, with lots of scandalous family drama. i think it's actually very interesting, i just hate that most people seem to think that modern AU = everyone is human now. modern AU hades fics had the same problem and i hate it, let monster boys and girls be monsters!

FOR REAL and it's not just with ER, it goes for other games and media too, like i know it makes the most financial sense to make merch of the most popular character(s) but as someone who tends to like side characters more, it SUCKS to watch the Popular Character(s) get merch after merch after merch while the character you like never gets anything 😑

ah, i do wish that at least some of the bosses had unique dialogue if you fought them while wearing the armor or using the weapon of a character that mattered to them. like fighting mohg wearing morgott's cloak/using his sword and vice versa, and indeed miquella (whether we end up fighting him or not) having a reaction if you have malenia's stuff with you

i tend to headcanon mohg being queer* as not really being a big deal because, idk, i haven't really thought of the lands between or the golden order as giving that much of a shit about anyone's sexuality (it just feels like the typical "ancient religious order = christianity" schtick that i'm not super fond of) and even if the golden order was against homosexuality, it's not like they have any power over mohg anymore, and back when they did, he was locked in a sewer and they couldn't have cared less about him, much less his orientation. i'm also not convinced that his orientation is public knowledge

that being said, i suppose it could make for some interesting scenarios if the golden order was against homosexuality and mohg did have to deal with. if the golden order's beliefs and teachings came between him and morgott, would they come between them in this regard as well? and if so, at what point? would the golden order's stance be known to them already as children, or would they only find out about it after leaving the shunning grounds? would the mohgwyn dynasty be seen as a safe haven by some people who were unable to fit within the tiny confines of the golden order's definition of a Person Allowed to Exist? and what of miquella and his haligtree? would he keep up the golden order's repressive rules, or would he view them as unnecessary cruelty and do away with them for his vision of a new order? and if the latter, would that be one of the things that would draw mohg to him?

(* - i personally headcanon him as gay, and while i know not everyone does, i think it's safe to say that he's definitely some manner of queer)
